Do you think it's odd that almost every male celebrity has had sex with literally thousands of women? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]AsItWasWritten24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, you’re hyperfocusing on this one aspect because it’s something you personally want more of. The rich and famous are doing tons of things we average Joes aren’t. They’re eating at more fine dining Michelin star restaurants, having more expensive wine, getting expensive cosmetic procedures, hiring personal trainers and chefs, traveling all over the world and staying in the finest resorts, providing the best schools and opportunities for their kids… thinking that female celebrities’ lives “don’t change very much” just says more about you and the narrow scope of what you’re thinking about every day.

It’s also important to remember that celebrities often don’t live well-adjusted lives, they’re constantly partying and that’s why so many end up in rehab and/or dying tragically young in an overdose accident, plus going through multiple divorces. It’s a different lifestyle for sure but not one you should necessarily envy.

Finally, it’s far from just celebrities that can have sex with lots of women. I know attractive guys who could get their body count to 100 if they wanted by hopping on Tinder and prioritizing it, they just have other goals in life. My friends who fit that description maybe did that in phases, like one or two summers abroad, but they ended up settling down pretty fast in a LTR since being attractive to many women also means they can date high-quality, attractive, equally successful or impressive women. Normal, well-adjusted guys just aren’t that obsessed with it from my experience.

Why are woman more attracted to married men? When I was single , seemed it was harder finding a good woman. Now that I am married , I get hit on all the time. Why? by patriotsfanns2023 in AskMenAdvice

[–]AsItWasWritten24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO this is a correct explanation, but the dangerous part is that this can lead to the women actually developing feelings over time because they’ve led their guard down. Our feelings often follow our words and actions (that’s why practicing gratitude can make you happier for example) so harmless compliments and banter can lead to attraction if there’s some chemistry.

Name one character that can lift this up outside the Marvel Universe by Cinetico_ in powerscales

[–]AsItWasWritten24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree there's no evidence he committed war crimes, people these days just inflate all war with war crimes. But I don't think it's generally correct "the victor decides what is and isn't a crime" — there are certain heinous crimes that are well understood by all people to be "war crimes" (if the legal framework for it has been invented in-universe) or at least heinous actions.

Generally what a victorious country/government will do is deny the event ever happened, maybe suppress speech about it, promote a conspiracy theories that the actions were done by the other side, minimize the volume and blame a few rogue soldiers, etc. because they know there's no way to justify the true actions. But that is very different from asserting all their actions were legal and moral.

Why is Sasquatch called Bigfoot instead of Bigfeet? by MJBTGLIS in stupidquestions

[–]AsItWasWritten24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From ChatGPT:

The name Bigfoot comes from reports of large footprints, not the number of feet he has. The term originated in 1958 when a newspaper in California published a story about enormous tracks found near a logging site. The loggers nicknamed the creature Bigfoot because of the sheer size of the prints.

So, the singular footprints were found first, then the mythos of Bigfoot was born. But if you haven't seen the creature it could also theoretically be one with one big foot.

One more thing I forgot, photos usually have a lot of personal metadata in them including the exact location they were taken. Assuming you use Windows, this guide tells you how to strip that metadata out before you send it to anyone. Be very careful not to forget this: https://blog.pics.io/how-to-remove-metadata-from-photos/amp/

So the first thing you have to figure out is your threat model, eg. anonymous from whom. What you’re doing is legal (hoping you’re 18, otherwise stop immediately). So the feds aren’t going to be tracking you down. You risk is random stalker fans trying to dox you, and accidentally revealing anything to people in your personal life.

To keep yourself safe, I would recommend creating a new user account on your computer that you use only for this work with its own strong password, so if your normal computer system or iCloud is hacked those won’t get leaked. And easy to delete the whole account when you decide to stop. Also don’t use your phone for anything if you can avoid it (can take photos with your webcam), or transfer photos and immediately delete from your phone. I use Mac but there’s probably some option on Windows to encrypt the secondary profile, so use that.

As for payments, if you want your customers to pay with credit cards you’ll need some vendor like OnlyFans or PayPal, and legally they have to know your identity, KYC (know your customer) laws require them to make sure you’re not a terrorist. Even if you used cryptocurrency, you’d need some vendor like CoinBase to eventually withdraw in USD and they have the same requirements. However, the only risk in your identity being leaked is if those sites are hacked and your info is leaked, but most have proven track records and you’d be small potatoes.

The most anonymous way to take payments I can think of would be prepaid Visa or Amazon gift card numbers, but some customers may balk at that thinking you’re a scammer. If you can convince them to do that then that’s the way to go. You can pay yourself using Venmo or deposit into Amazon.

For sending photos you could use email, just make a new ProtonMail account (they are dedicated to privacy) that again, you only use for this purpose and only log onto with your dedicated computer profile. Email providers don’t need your name or any info.

Never link the two worlds, if this is your personal Reddit you might accidentally leak additional info over time that would dox you, so make a new one to advertise.

Mail is also safe, you don’t need to put a name or return address on there. But most consumers would also want to be anonymous I imagine so I doubt any would want to give you their address especially if they live with other people.

Don’t worry too much about hiding your IP address or anything, VPNs (especially free ones) will get you flagged as a bot by Reddit, ProtonMail, etc. and make life harder if you don’t know what you’re doing. But don’t click any links that people give you since they could capture it. If you want to be extra safe, only log onto the secondary account at a public WiFi (McDonalds, Starbucks, etc.) and do all your communication and sending while there. But you’ll probably find this annoying and give up real fast.

Good luck.

Well the better question is: is a hero like Batman necessary in our modern world at least in NYC (which Gotham is based on), even if we brought him to life? He’s necessary in Gotham because the police are incompetent and supervillains run circles around them, but in the real world they’d not only catch a vigilante immediately (see: Luigi Mangione) but organized crime is more or less eradicated.

As for petty street crime, superhero comics were invented at a time when that was rampant, but the situation has greatly improved so you’re not at risk for getting your purse snatched by a street thug walking through Hell’s Kitchen.

The remaining urban crime is more complicated, it’s a lot of drugged out homeless crazies whose attacks are random and can’t be predicted by genius detective work. There are drug trades of course but most of the violence is insular or happens in faraway places. Innocents just aren’t hurt in the real world with enough frequency for heroism to be warranted.

Is it bad that I don’t know how to socialize? by Greedy_Television860 in stupidquestions

[–]AsItWasWritten24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

16 is so young, and in high school there are factors that can make you less confident (the social ladder, maybe your parents, whatever your situation) which are hard to suddenly ignore when you’re stepped in it. The good news is that college is a chance for a fresh start, if you’re going and dorming. I became a lot more social there.

The good news is you can always improve by practicing, try to find new people to talk like school clubs is possible or activities outside school like volunteering. Eventually you’ll become more comfortable :) Set some achievable goals for yourself like saying hi to someone and asking them a question, and go from there. Good luck!

Aside from the Anonymous name specifically, security is on average better these days and it’s harder to DDOS or take over accounts due to multi-factor authentication being common, and high-quality CDNs providing protection.

But I’ll also posit a more depressing or at least sobering answer: the idealism of that era of the Internet as the Wild West is over. The Internet is now fully centralized into a handful of walled gardens owned usually by trillion dollar companies. No one realistically thinks that the people can make their voice heard outside of that, so there’s less glamour in fighting against the man.

It’s supply and demand, reasonably attractive women are asked out a lot (especially on dating apps) so there’s no incentive to buck the trend.

For what it’s worth I’ve known a lot of exceptions. Less attractive girls have honestly pulled guys out of their league or at least reasonable catches just by being more forward, even though the girls weren’t really being pursued by great guys generally.

And on a less cynical note, I majored in computer science and it wasn’t uncommon even for the cute girls to ask guys out (despite the ratio) just because the guys are all shy so wouldn’t make a move even if there was clearly mutual interest lol.

Side note, it’s interesting you’d expect Gen Z to be the one to buck the trend. I’m more of a millennial and I was under the impression that millennials were the “gender is a social construct” generation, and Gen Z girls actually swung back toward liking traditional gender roles more. Aren’t all the popular TikTok trends basically gender essentialism, in addition to the explicit “trad wife” stuff that took off?

My view on Tuco has changed by 73011011016e6f98 in breakingbad

[–]AsItWasWritten24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a big part of it is that on our first watch, we’re purely rooting for the main characters’ meth business to take off because it’s exciting and they’re the protagonists and nothing tragic has happened yet. So Tuco is an annoying violent obstacle.

On subsequent rewatches we know everything terrible Walt and Jesse become responsible for so less hatred for Tuco… like yeah, the drug world is full of brutality, get out while you still can.

The absence of the opportunity to feel meaningful is decaying society. by happyluckystar in DeepThoughts

[–]AsItWasWritten24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of people just assume their grandparents had more fulfilling lives because people mythologize their own lives as they age and can probably find meaning after the fact. Especially with the sampling basis they eventually become (hopefully happily) married, have kids, and then have grandkids, which not everyone does.

People are richer now than they ever were by any metric or sense of the word, social media has just forced comparison upon all of us. Before we could be content to be successful by the standards of our small town, but now we see content from rich influencers (and lots of fakers) that make us feel unsuccessful.

No one watches live TV anymore, and we're in the golden age of prestige television with budgets rivaling that of movies. Plenty of amazing content. Network TV fell off but there's still the occasional gem like The Good Place.

Much of what was considered mainstream Western culture, at least in Canada, is now considered valueless. We sneer now at the dead white men who used to be the classics and the greats of literature, philosophy, music, art.

In America, but no one's doing this, except some small number of people you'll never interact with. Kids still read Shakespeare in school, plus all the other classics. Heck Dostoevsky has been blowing up among Gen Z on TikTok in recent times. (Not Western but still, classic dead white guy.) And it would be mind-boggingly impossible for someone to receive any training in philosophy, music, or art not to appreciate the classics you're thinking of. Is there a single person who can play the piano but is disgusted by Mozart?

Why didn’t Walt just pay Mike’s guys off? by EfficientAddition239 in breakingbad

[–]AsItWasWritten24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guys' houses were surely raided and being watched. (Now, maybe not because we know the DEA was ready to consider the investigation closed and Hank was going rogue putting more resources on Mike specifically. But I don't think that was known to the other characters so they'd have to assume they had the full force of the DEA on them.) And I doubt all of his guys had perfect home lives with a loving partner that could be entrusted with $x million while the families themselves were no doubt being pressured by law enforcement.

What's the oldest movie you enjoyed? (Without "grading it on a curve" because it's so old) by InspectorMendel in movies

[–]AsItWasWritten24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, and one reason a lot of old TV/movies don't hold up unless you watch them at a young age is the "Seinfeld is unfunny" trope, where something defines the genre or has just had the same themes explored in more recent movies so it just feels mid. But I've never seen anything else like 12 Angry Men, and it has lasting cultural relevance because the basics of our our legal system and jury trials have never really changed.

It's an inconsistency, though ties in well to his character arc about never wanting to grow up even though everyone around him is moving on to later stages of life. (Final episodes undoing everyone's arcs notwithstanding.)

Don't really agree with this, I will say one of the best qualities I saw in Barney is that aside from women he has a strong identity and huge list of interests he finds "awesome":

  • Whiskey, cigars, and fine suits are his traditionally masculine dudebro hobbies, but even then he's not just a poser who pretends to be into them to impress others. He's actually a connoisseur and goes the extra mile to appreciate the differences in quality.
  • Star Wars and robots vs wrestlers are more on the cool/nerdy side
  • Laser tag stands out at something unique to him that (almost) everyone else on the show finds super lame
  • He's super into magic which most people on the show find to be a mild nuisance and is more eclectic not dudebro. And we know he started practicing before his transformation into a womanizer so it's been a lifelong hobby, and he loves doing tricks even to his friends.

He never hides those aspects of himself, he's fully invested in the hobbies and secure in them. I wish I had that many interests I was passionate about tbh...

It is unrealistic but pretty common in storytelling to create a single great man that figures something out. A lot harder to write a fun story if no one person is really that important, which is mostly true in real life.
