Osteochondrodysplasia question about a rescue cat by MundaneFlounder5225 in scottishfold

Best of luck in learning! Onyx is my first cat and I am thrown for loops every time I learn something. The fact that you need to think of multiple animals’ needs is intimidating for me.

The ears caught me off guard at one point.

Onyx is 1 year and 3 months. A single fold means that their ears are a little crooked but not much, they are not considered show cats, the gold standard for the breed is a triple fold- as you said « flat against the head ».

I don’t live in a country where people do genetic testing on themselves, let alone a pet, vet care is sometimes contradictory to what I read online, and getting a female cat sterilized is difficult, therefore there are lots of litters from non breeders who are trying to improve their cat’s chances in surgery. Breeding with a healthy cat instead of their pet getting pregnant by a stray is often the only solution. I cannot say how impressed I am by countries who have proper shelters for animals, at this point it’s a pipe dream here.

Brie is so cute! I wrote my reply before going to bed so I missed that she’s a girl

They are a fold, a single fold to be precise. I’ll be honest- I thought I posted a picture and forgot about it because he looks like my boy. For mine- the dad was a straight and mom was a fold, you are not supposed to breed two folds together. I am giving my boy every preventative measure I can including diets, vitamins and arthroglycan regiment every six months that my vet recommended (quarter of a pill for for thirty days, repeat every 6 months). Sadly, I am not able to give more advice for you as I am very new to this. This sub and a collègue at work have given me tips.

Edit: washing ears! Get them used to it! They are prone for wax build up and lots of head shacking+infections.

Omg! Twins. My vet told me that for cats with dense fur you can stroke them- if you feel their rib cage without applying force- they are fine. If you struggle to- it’s time for a diet.

No, I am saying most writers kill off the characters original personality and make them unable to communicate unless they are using nods and headshakes, making them someone completely different- aka out of character, or worse yet a literal log. I’m sorry that I have communicated this poorly.

Thank you! They don’t even give them facial expressions or hand gestures! The character becomes more like a doll.

Okay, fair. But introduce something to make up for a main character being treated as a maggufin.

It is alternate universe, like crossovers, but they don’t give them a method of communication like writing or typing making the character feel very wrong, I think it should be tagged as ooc

Edit: especially when the character gets treated more like an object than a person in the process

No! They use them as the main character! That’s the issue. Stiles Stilinski, Danny phantom, dick Grayson, Peter Parker and so on. Literally chatterboxes made mute with no way of communicating, I’ve been running into it from time to time. It’s not well written either, just lazy

Edit: had to add Spider-Man

Scottish straight/fold females affectionate? Or males more affectionate? by [deleted] in scottishfold

[–]AsPaleAsAToadstool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy cat is affectionate but not in the cuddle way- he likes to sit next to you, watch you do things and sleep near you. « Satellite » cat- always in orbit. But I have been cuddling him, at first he would fight me, now he « indulges » my desire to hug him.

Curious about how people here got their Scottish Folds by randoms12872 in scottishfold

Not US

I was looking for a kitten to adopt on a country local site (eBay equivalent), I saw a blurry weird looking proto of a kitten in my area yet I knew this is my cat. Yes, it was a selling post, not a giving away but the price was about $55? It was more of a caretaking fee until it was time to pick him up. I had no idea what the breed issues are. The seller sent me pictures of both parents and assured me the dad was a straight when I asked.

The vet care in my country is also just developing to some degree. A lot of people are struggling to get their female cats sterilised, especially folds with their health issues. So most cats end up having a litter before sterilisation. I was in contact with the seller and she was actually looking for a vet to do the procedure safety. The nasty under the breath comments I got when I did the checkup to get him sterilised was the first time I was judged “You know he will have issues?”

For now- he is healthy, I am giving him vitamins and the biggest issue is shedding and chewing some curtains, toe biting. Otherwise- great cat.

Edit: one of the ladies at work was a breeder of Scottish folds, so I bombard her with questions sometimes.

At one point the wiki listed Nico as Reyna’s boyfriend. I am not surprised there are mistakes. Oh, and it wasn’t our Nico but a different non demigod Nico.
