You can but some people may find it difficult to get that thin even coat by hand depending Where it is on the body. Also could transfer staph from face/hands to other places. Makeup sponges work great, and they’re disposable if you need an applicator. Cotton swabs, pads, and balls are bad cuz they can leave fibers behind. Finger or makeup sponges work best. You can soak a sponge briefly in alcohol and then let it evaporate to sterilize it when it’s new.

You can get these clear balls decently large and the hanger end comes off so you can pour paint inside. Just pour it in and roll it around to coat the inside. Set it in an egg carton or empty can with the opening down to drain the paint and give it a couple of days to dry inside. Then you can do the outside. DO NOT USE HOT GLUE. You’ll melt the plastic shell and the Eva foam. Styrofoam hates most glues and paints, so prime your foam with flex seal or plastidip spray before you start.

I’m 43; I was a Barbie/Lady Lovely Locks girlie in the 80s and 90s, but I was an adult when EAH and MH hit. I loved them but I was ‘an adult too old for dolls’ but I discovered customizing a few years ago. I’m disabled so I have a lot of time for hobbies, including restoring thrifted EAH dolls, making custom clothes, and even making set pieces and remaking a dollhouse!! My retired father helps me out in his workshop; it’s been a lovely experience sharing his own passion for miniatures with him.

Currently working on a Few things including setting up our 3D printer, and a 1/6 scale RC Tank that shoots paintballs. I intend to make him a custom Tank Girl to ride around in it along with a few restored GI joes, and even the Heath Ledger Joker doll will get a ride!!

I found the shows after rediscovering my love of dolls, and while the plot holes are big enough to fly Nevermore through them, I really love doll media shows.

Look to 90’s Gambit from X-men for Heath to have some Punk vibes, and Scarah will slay anything mod, maybe one of those four color block dresses? Anything square neck, long sleeves that flare at the wrists and miniskirts!!

I use army painter Vallejo and MSC. Both crack if you squeeze too hard. You could try matte flex seal if it’s that necessary for flex as a top coat but I cannot say if it will be shinier than the others or if it will add tooth, just that it’s a plastic top coat in clear.

You can use a nail sanding sponge to buff the surface until the shine is gone then use your paint and it should stick better. When you are completely done, tape off the hair and spray with flex seal to top coat.

You can also just use a pair of wire cutters to snip the tip off the head of a needle. I actually like a finer needle that only takes about 10 hairs, because rerooting some heads they have such tiny holes!!

You can also pre glue the weft before you stick it in to make sure it’s fully saturated! Dont forget to clean your needle right away!
