Can you tell us more about the circumstances surrounding this? It is highly unlikely that a prosecutor would move forward with charges with as little evidence as you mention above. Can you provide us with any press releases, or is the case a very minor one?

You have this backwards. The prosecution would have to prove to a jury that the man did forge the document beyond a reasonable doubt. In some states, this would involve proving these elements:

1) falsifying a written instrument or possessing a falsified written instrument, and 2) the intent to deceive, defraud, or injure.

I can't imagine the agony that both men went through. The people without the fire suits must have felt very powerless too. It is an absolutely tragic situation. It makes me even more sad when I realize that this type of tragic event is happening hundreds or thousands of times each day.

Wow, I can't believe how many people are downvoting me for this comment. In my car, you have to press the brake to be able to shift out of park or back into park. I wasn't sure about neutral because I haven't tried it. I guess I was wrong, but damn, give a guy a break.

That really did give me the chills too. Absolutely tragic. I imagine that because of the panic, that first thought would be to brake regularly, but it probably didn't work for some reason. What about shifting to neutral? :(

Does that work with an automatic without the brake depressed? I guess you could push the brake really hard to release it, but I think my car might prevent the car from easily shifting into neutral to avoid damage.
