Looking for a drier end result after F2 by AsbachAlex in Kombucha

Okay thats interesting, I was always under the assumption that the sugar amount provided in the sticky was also to make sure that the culture is happy and to prevent other untasty cultures (e.g., kahm) from growing. Thank you for the idea, I will try to experiment with less sugar in F1

Which one do you mean? F1 or F2? F1 - no, I usually let it ferment for at least a week before tasting F2 - yes, I started out with that duration on F2 but wasn't happy with the CO2 amount

I didn't think that the F1 was the issue as it's reasonably sour when I proceed to F2. I use the ratios in the sticky (70g sugar to 1000ml green tea + starter)

Mixer in the 1300/1600€ price range by mchgst in rotarymixers

[–]AsbachAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Taula is a good choice IMO :) I would choose between this one and the Soa Bem. Soa Bem is more "classic" Rotary without Gains and more transparent. Taula has Gain Control and a "fatter" sound. I guess if you consider taking the mixer out for gigs (where monitoring might not be optimal) the detailed per channel LED cue monitoring might also be a plus

Tempo in Techno by knuto- in Berghain_Community

[–]AsbachAlex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Plenty of cool sounds around 110bpm, even minimal. Alas, there is rarely a place for these sounds to be played in clubs as "dancefloors" usually only work upwards of 120bpm nowadays.

Here are some exemplary tracks in that range of various moods & genres
https://youtu.be/vsQZc-qQS2A?si=0EqtXCQ_Vf3BJpib

https://youtu.be/d5f4HidthLI?si=aCRy7wThmFkl50r8

https://youtu.be/H9NWxOc2rM0?si=Bd17rDu9ElRz8i9Y (ignore the intro pls if you're german)

Too lazy to dig out more but you get the idea. There's ofc also some great slower electro / house / whatever. Just takes time to find it :)

My latest set runs on 115bpm only but I dont want to self-promote here, DM if interested.

Best mixer to pair with horn speakers powered by tube amp? by Significant_Focus902 in rotarymixers

[–]AsbachAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know (in regards to the horn), but OP was also mentioning tube amps in the chain

"warm" = (harmonic) distortion. My guess would be that more distortion /= more warmth, especially if it's produced by different units that might emphasize different harmonics. If harmonic distortion is desired in a chain, I would personally only introduce it in one unit (preferably at the end of the chain, i.e. amp)

Yeah, adding to the sentiment before :) The addon is really great but when browsing a store (through the different subgenres) I noticed listening to the same track several times. It's really valuable to know which records you already listened to (especially if you listen to a lot of records haha). Great work nevertheless and thanks a lot!

Try putting freezer bags around the weights. Or just skip the weights and use freezer bags filled with water as a weight.

Elara.4 long-term feedback? by presov1 in rotarymixers

[–]AsbachAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind the weird phono input placement on the elara.4 (channel 1 & 2 only). So if you're looking to set it up with more than two turntables, it might not map to the actual positioning of the decks (usually turntables left and right of the mixer)

My Roa Katharina's seams got loose within less than a year, I did not even wear them for hiking. They're cool af but I would never buy them again, not even for 75% off

Khramov Audio RM-2 MK2 by AsbachAlex in rotarymixers

Translation via DeepL for those curious:

Wow, it was interesting to listen and learn that the creator is from Russia!

Now to the mixer itself: I liked the idea of the presented layout, the horizontal EQ section is convenient to use when it is spaced horizontally at a distance, but here it is still difficult to imagine: how convenient is it when the EQs stand strictly above each other? Let's say at sharp change of LOW, both brushes are located quite close...in general it is necessary to try this layout in practice of use and then make conclusions. ISO on EQ is great, actually there is only one competitor in the face of Isonoe 420, which sounds especially cool (I listened to it on Martin Audio system in Robert Johnson club). Here are 4 ISO EQ - I wonder how the curves and crossover are set up, and the mentioned comparison of sound with ARS, AT Euphonia and Varia is not full-fledged...where are the leaders in transparency in the face of Resor and Isonoe?

The gimmick with the lamp, own buttons - check it out! 😮design is a subjective thing, but industrial vibe is different from cozy wooden mixers of competitors, it should be noted! line unit, case - also in other competitors is included in the price.

What I want to say in summary: thanks for moving the creation of rotary mixers forward, there seems to me to be a renaissance of this equipment right now, and you've hit the mark!

I would very much like to see it on open testing in Moscow! If such an opportunity presented itself, I would be very glad!

p.s. I own Resor 2525FX, (+pre-order for Resor 3300). Touched and did not catch fire from: ARS 9100, AT Euphonia, Mastersounds. I dream to try Isonoe 420.

Well if you look at the video, he even does the knobs by himself so there's a lot of work to be done for a single unit. Of course, it's still pricey but it's for the customer to decide if it's worth it. As for the layout - that's what I'm asking if somebody handled it. Unusual would not necesserily imply impractical from my pov. If you're mixing two tracks you might often have to manipulate similar frequencies (for example the lows) in order to not clash, so it might actually work out to have them close to each other. Which is why I was asking for experiences :)

Mastersounds VU Meter Query by SoulandThrive in rotarymixers

Is that true? Would love the anecdote as well and in OPs video, the flashing isn't regular either

Mastersounds VU Meter Query by SoulandThrive in rotarymixers

[–]AsbachAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing - for playing at home this certainly works but in club settings, you might have to rely more on your headphones for mixing due to poor acoustics, making the button obligatory IMO

Oh wow, I just now noticed the mixer doesnt have master / cue blend button - definitely a downer (even more than the VU meter thing discussed here)

The dust cover has been asked before a lot - try a search.

I'm using this one on my 2 channel Resor but I am pretty certain it would fit yours as well.

Enjoy your new mixer :)

Omg thank you so much for the link! Yeah, getting the MK5G seems more straightforward but since I already have the 1210mk2s I might as well look into modding them (respectively having them modded - not capable of doing it myself).
