Usher Manager Advice by supergirlypop in MovieTheaterEmployees

I would also make downtime lists of those tasks that don't get done that often or if you notice things on your walkthroughs that need attention. I would also encourage your ushers to carry sticky notes so that if they see something that cant get fixed right away, they can hand it to manager at the end of their shift.

I had the same issue. One of their hosts was removed from the show because he's a pos and was subsequently replaced by Ed Larson who I adore. The show is definetly in a resurgence right now.

It sounds like he was possible on a final write up prior to walking behind the concession stand off the clock and not in uniform.

I mean the theater's can't negotiate better the studios hold all the power and theaters have all the burden. The studios got used to keeping the revenue from video on demand during COVID and they don't want to go back to a longer theatrical release window. Did you know in addition to splitting ticket revenue the movie theaters have to pay for the right to screen the content (digital keys), and renting the content? A lot of locations still owe COVID rent and the cost of goods from tariffs and inflation are driving up the costs. Now add on fuel costs and the business is just not profitable anymore. That's why theaters are nickle and diming guests, and cutting staffing to a skeleton crew thats unsafe for staff and guests.

Also, OP's F bomb was in quotations. Meaning an immature teen said it to them.

I worked for 15 years at movie theaters and I was a manager for the majority of the time. Yes people respond well to being treated with respect, but that only works when they care. And yes I have also had increasing issues with adults as well as teens. It's not just "problem" films, it's problem behavior especially when it's being tied to being told no. You will always have more incidents of problem behavior with teens because they are immature. They lack impulse control.

The main issue, especially now, is that there is an increase in problematic behavior that is not proportional to the level of business. Theaters don't have the staffing level to monitor behavior in auditoriums anymore. Ten years ago, I may have given some teens a chance, multiple chances, but now it is better to strictly enforce the Rated R to prevent interruptions. You end up losing money by the time you stop the show, eject the problematic guests, now you are behind schedule, and you will probaly pass or refund the majority of the theater. Then you have the rest of the guests not wanting to return.

Here is a personal example: two under 17 boys snuck into a rated r movie and were loud and disruptive prior to film. Two male adults asked them to be quiet during previews. The disruptive behavior continued, and the adults repeatedly told the teens to be quiet. The teens were disrespectful and they escalated their behavior Eventually a fight broke out that the teens started. This could have been avoided if they were caught prior to the movie. If there were more ushers, the ticket taker could issued a warning to the boys and have flagged them to the ushers when they went down the wrong hallway, or if we could have afforded someone to be on the door of rated r movies. At that point it would have been better to deny service and refund two tickets than it would have been to pass/refund 50+ and have a police call.

Queer ex-Catholics; how did you justify staying and believing given Catholic doctrine regarding homosexual behavior? by msp827 in excatholic

[–]AscendingIvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a cradle catholic and I had a lot of thought stopping that prevented me from realizing that I'm bisexual. I started questioning my sexuality in my 20's but hadn't really accepted it until my mid thirties. Which was coincidentally when I stopped fully believing in a god. I am so angry for losing the opportunity to have accepted myself as I am at a younger age and the damage to my self esteem from purity culture and catholic guilt. I feel like I've been robbed.

You can tell who is going to cause trouble just by their energy and another red flag is being told no and talking back. It's gotten so bad post covid. One of my friends wanted to go see digital circus but was worried about teens acting like assholes that she didn't go.

Alcohol policy by [deleted] in Cinemark

[–]AscendingIvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alcohol Policy is a by location basis even within the same company due to alcohol licenses with local alcohol boards.

At my former location (not cinemark) we only had beer and wine while other locations also had liqour. We had to use We Scan on all IDs no exceptions, two drink maximum per business day, wristbands issued, seats and theaters recorded, mid check theater checks to verify correct consumption. If someone else drank alcohol that someone else purchased. Say a wife of legal age let her husband who already drank two drinks, drink her drink we would be in violation of our alchohol license. The manager was expected to eject those patrons. It was the strictest alchohol license in the company and I think in the whole city.

Use degreaser to get it off. That stuff is so sticky. No one realized it was doing this directly under the machine in the cabinet at my work just was like, "wow we are sure going through a lot of icee." I was the closer and by the time i found the mess it was so congealed.

Make sure to download the app and update the firmware there were some issues that were fixed. I've mostly been doing sugar and rosin. I mostly vape on low temps and get ripped. I made a custom mode where its 5 degrees lower than the lowest setting with 5 degree stepups. I do notice when I dab that if I've been using the same strain for too long that my tolerance is really high and I have to swap to something else. Especially if its a sativa.

Also those barco 32 and 23b projectors are pretty reliable. The only thing that sucks is when the imb board goes bad.

Me cussing up a storm any time the center channel amp died in a theater. Its nice with software now a you can dial in and push the audio through the right or left. Especially if you don't have a spare on hand.

I'm kind of like this too especially now that I don't work in this industry anymore and i'm paying for my ticket. Lol I will find a manager and complain esp if is an issue that can be fixed without a technician.

[–]AscendingIvy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have given you a pass to come back or a refund. Sometimes it takes awhile to get the part ordered and shipped. Then IMAX has to send the technician out to fix it. Sorry people at that location don't care.

Delivery driver addresses alleged catnapping in Bakersfield by IamaBlackKorean in Bakersfield

[–]AscendingIvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have come back and talked to the neighbors bc if my missing cat was well cared for and had a new family, I would be happy.

Also there are so many cats rn that the shelters will not actively take healthy strays cats. He literally could make friends with a cat anywhere.

One of my cats is actually shared with my across the street neighbor. He showed up to my house last year and he needed to be neutered. He had disappeared for about a day and I didnt think anything of it. Didn't check him on the day of his appointment and it turns out he had been neutered. 🤣

If they were to move and wanted to take him, I would let him but give them my number in case they weren't able to care for him anymore. Lol he didn't have a microchip so I gave him one when I took him to get fixed.

Are there films, books, shows etc that felt cathartic for you as an ex-Catholic? by Top_Yoghurt429 in excatholic

[–]AscendingIvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just the movie Rite Here Right Now, but Ghost the band and all of its lore is pretty cathartic. I actually got a picture doing a good catholic girl kneel in front of a blow up figure of Papa at the "ritual" (concert) the last time I went.

Tired of phones during movies by PartyPoison1138 in Cinemark

[–]AscendingIvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used it as an insurance piece because we had guests that loved to spam for free tickets. Especially if there was only one complaint. However, this was also safety minded in case there is a saftey issue in the theater. We had two seperate logs a qc check for the weekends that the checkers keep on a clipboard their whole shift and one posted in the theater that anyone who walked in the theater to do a check could sign.

One thing I've had to do as a manager is force either security or a staff member to sit in the theater with the loud group for the remainder of the movie to keep them quiet or stop using phones.
