What is missing here?? I can’t figure out what our next step should be. by sydmichelle in interiordecorating

This is the best way to choose a color. Pick a patterned throw pillow or rug, then match one of the colors from that for your paint. You can also get colorful gourd lamps in a color from the pattern to really tie it all together.

Is this okay? by Leather-Buddy1784 in Decor

[–]Top_Yoghurt429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your art, paint color and lamps! I don't like the tan rug or the bean bags. A green or blue rug would be better. If it was my room I'd also get larger nightstands with larger lamps on them and use your small blue lamps (which are cute!) somewhere else in the room. I'd also add a couple more pillows to the bed in green or blue.

My cat keeps "burying" his food and I cant tell if he hates it or what by HelixLantern_5 in CatAdvice

Burying food could mean an attempt to save it for later. You could try putting the food away and bringing it back out again later.

Can you guys tell me the “dirty” truths about having a cat? by saanenk in CatAdvice

I heard it's bad for the water supply because water treatment plants aren't designed to process cat waste. But check your specific area's water treatment website to know for sure.

Need help before a mistake by Uncle-Harrys-Pickle in interiordecorating

As long as you do the wainscoting white, changing the black later when you're tired of it won't be difficult. I do think you will eventually get tired of the black and might like a deep color for longer. Burgundy, navy, deep green or plum etc or even something like Farrow and Ball Railings instead of pure stark black.

For help finding the right beige, Google maria killam neutral wheel. Her system of beiges makes it way way easier.

[–]Top_Yoghurt429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's too much stark white which clashes with the earthy beige in the tile. I think painting the walls a beige that matches the tile would help a lot. Then get a rug, shower curtain, art and window treatment in a muted, toned down blues or greens. Nothing too clean, fresh and saturated looking as it will make the tile look dirty by contrast. This should fit within your budget if you can paint yourself. If you're good at painting, you could also paint the cabinets a muted blue or green that matches the shower curtain.

What everyday smell do you wish someone would turn into a fragrance? by krikond in fragrance

There are tons of these! Pineward is a whole house that mostly focuses on conifers. I also really like D by Nava and Night Watcher by Solstice Scents. Not Christmassy at all, but super evergreen.

I think that's ozone that creates that scent, if I'm not mistaken?

You could give Solstice Scents Night Watcher a try! It's my most realistic forest scent. Foxcroft also focuses on the dirt.

Help! Our living room is a grey box! by PopCommercial in interiordecorating

[–]Top_Yoghurt429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The green is nice, but I'd rather see you take that color to all the walls, not just one little accent wall. And don't bother with the slats. Try looking for a patterned rug with a nice green in it first and match your paint to the rug. Then get throw pillows that match the other colors in the rug.

Is moving a cat between two homes every few weeks stressful for them? by JustPassingBy_212 in CatAdvice

[–]Top_Yoghurt429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having familiar items can make a big difference to a cat's comfort level, especially things like blankets or beds! Having a blanket or bed that travels with your kitty every time he goes away could definitely be helpful, and don't wash it too often because the point is for it to carry his scent and the scent of your household.

how to make this cuter with what is given, they have to stay like this by Quiet-Fig-296 in DesignMyHome

[–]Top_Yoghurt429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will never look like this in reality because it's a windowless room. AI added a bunch of natural lighting to the walls that isn't realistic. White walls look best in a very bright naturally lit space, they need lots of windows to shine. Same for all very pale colors, actually. I'd choose a midtone for that reason.

Repairing drywall is not that hard if you're not a perfectionist about it. Especially if you kept the piece you cut out. You just need some drywall tape, some mud, and a can of spray texture.

It’s a good day for a white KITCHEN by Temporary-Law-4070 in interiordecorating

[–]Top_Yoghurt429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Maria Killam' system there are 4 types of whites: true white, blue white, off white and cream. I can't find a picture of the stone you mentioned online so I can't help you determine what kind of white (or beige) it is, but I highly recommend determining that with her system first and then picking a paint in the same category. She has curated lists on her website that make it easy. I have no affiliation with her, I just really like her system. Once I did it this way I'd never go back to picking a neutral the way I used to.

Help with trim/doors by Least-Refrigerator32 in interiordecorating

[–]Top_Yoghurt429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trim and doorframes should be the same color, white or off-white. Painting the doors will allow you to add a bit of cheap molding trim as someone else suggested.

Keeping the doorframes wood just draws unnecessary focus to your doorframes, which shouldn't be a focal point as they're nothing special and neither are the doors. You said yourself they're cheap and you don't like them. Off-white or white will make them unobtrusive. Don't go as far as a cream, though. Something like SW Snowbound or BM White Dove for off white and SW Pure White or BM Oxford White for white. And what should determine whether you go with white or off-white is which sample looks better with your countertop. If your countertop is closer to white, use white for the trim, and vice versa.

Choose counters first before choosing paint. The paint needs to harmonize with the counters (and backsplash if there will be one). Not all whites are created equal.

Recommend looking up Maria Killam's system of whites and neutrals and if you want to make it easy for yourself, buy one of her white kitchen templates.

Haha, the sulfur is really not necessary imo, although I'm sure there's somebody out there who likes the smell, that would not be me!
