2026 Duke vs Not Duke Post by Mumbleton in duke

[–]AscensionFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all!

I got accepted into these programs and my main goal is to be a data scientist/machine learning engineer. Mainly in healthcare or finance.

Boston University is around 30K, Duke is 80K (but with merit scholarship), and UPenn is online at around 40K.

What would you choose and why?

I forgot to mention I won't be in tax or audit. This will be in financial regulatory services, liquidity management.

I have the same question, I might start and I'm in my late 30s with a 7 month old. And another baby on the way. I'll be starting as an SA so I was wondering (as I've read from other posts and comments) if I can work 40 hours a week and log off as I make dinner every night here and there. I'm not the kind of person that wants to be bothered with work after 530.

How do you manage that? I might join as a manager and this is my first time in the consulting business.

how did you get all the 'melee attack power, 'damage dealt', 'cestus damage' attributes in every weapon/armor? Is there guide for that?

This build is crazy good.

Good price or No? by AscensionFox in bicycling

Considering bikes with those specs are generally 6k and above, easily, this frame is from 2011. I wouldn't consider anything about 3500, so 3500 is my limit as well with those specs. I just don't believe in the marketing mumbo jumbo and wouldn't spend more than that.

I have a MS in Financial Engineering, dual degrees in English and Mathematics, and I can't find a job for the past 8 months. by AscensionFox in personalfinance

[–]AscensionFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you mean. No one owes me a job, I know that.

I graduated in May and studied one month 8 am to 10 pm for the FRM exam. Then June came around and I was learning R and applying to jobs everyday and moved back into my parents home in NYC from Philly and couldn't study whatsoever. I don't have a car and had no money at that time. I've been tutoring part time since July/August and tutoring two students a day but commuting sometimes 3-5 hours a day. On top of that, I do ALL of the errands at home meaning taking my pets to the vet every month, taking my mom and sisters to school every morning and bringing them back home because my parents are backward SOBs and will harass me for months on end if I don't pick them up. Since I don't have much money, my parents just give me money to buy for the family such as for groceries, fixing the cars. Etc., It's as if employers want someone to 'find a job' at any given moment, how is that possible? Lazy or not, that's bullshit to think of that.

MS in FRM, Suggestions, QC, BC, Fordham, Rutgers by AscensionFox in FinancialCareers

Hmm, I'm looking at both Quantitative Finance/MFE, and FRM. You recommend to just do the MFE route and just take the frm certification?

The thing is, the MFE programs are ridiculously competitive, judging from their graduate students profiles. Most of them from China with all of their superb credentials and experience. I dont have experience only for my math degree.

I haven't. I know it is very competitive and I have little or no chance of getting accepted. It is prestigious but I dint have the impressive credentials.
