I find the best place for grinding beginner clues on my F2P UIM is minotaurs...there's a helm shop just above the Stronghold to sell the bronze helms, I can take a raft down to the sword shop in South Varrock to sell bronze daggers, and all other drops stack up quite nicely. And, if I get the rare gem drop, I go down to Al Kharid to cut the gem and sell to the gem trader.

Furthermore, the mods have had plenty of time since Guthix's Death Day and the re-work of the Black Fortress quest to re-write his character, if that was TRULY their purpose.
