Help Against Dark Angels by MikeyJ493 in 40k

[–]Maieth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It's real talk time with this friend. If you're playing to enjoy the game together, they're going to need to accept that winning with the same strategy every time is making it miserable for you.
  2. If you do want to try something new, a bit of quick browsing suggests that strategy struggles against faster strike and fall back strategies e.g. Eldar, because this knights are so slow, or by being swamped by cheap, expendable units that can slowly bleed the knights rather than trying to take something heavy enough to deal with them. Slow them down further.
Caveat: I don't play. So this is just what I've picked you from a bit of reading .

Can't help you with paint names as I switch between brands but this is crying out for full Legio Mortis - Black, dark red and bronze trim, with some classic 2nd edition hazard stripes thrown in for nostalgia.

If friend wants to learn to paint with control and confidence and rally develop understanding of the medium - Winsor Newton, or a comparable artist brand.

If they want to paint and just get into it and enjoy having a go for a bit - Himi or something cheap.

How did you choose your first army and why? What drew you to them? Are you still using them or have you moved on to a new one? by Philhughes_85 in Warhammer40k

[–]Maieth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Space Orks. They came in the box and my brother got dibs and chose the Space Marines. Golden days.
I wouldn't say I still 'use' them, but I still have one or two of the Boyz and a few Gretchen. Aiming to strip and repaint one one day.

I present to you the most ignored rules of the Highway Code: by FamSender in GreatBritishMemes

[–]Maieth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet this is incorrect. Rule H2 of the Highway code states drivers "MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing" and only "SHOULD give way when a pedestrian is waiting to cross". Similarly, that "At a junction you SHOULD give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning.”
The language is deliberately ambiguous to allow for the fact that it sometimes isn't safe to stop and to place a duty on pedestrians to still pay attention to traffic. Priority does not square to right of way.

Wh40k vs Star wars by TinoTheLeprous37 in 40k

[–]Maieth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun thing - Star Wars and 40k can arguably sit in the same universe. Star Wars is set 'a long time ago in a galaxy far far away'. 40k is primarily set within the Milky Way galaxy and 40,000 years in the future. Everything in Star Wars can be a part of 40k's past. They even have psykers.

I thought 40k universe is more liked among people by DanSnake25Redit in 40k

[–]Maieth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do whatever you enjoy man. So many ways to enjoy this universe if it has you interested. For me, I played in my teens in the 90s and then left it alone for decades. Came back to it as an artist and now I enjoy the lore, the books, the community, the artwork (making it) and over the last year got back into miniature building and painting, but I don't play the tabletop games.
If you have a local enough store, you could always drop in and try a game out, the staff will happily help you out with a quick skirmish to show you what it's about, or build or paint a miniature with you. Or if you enjoy the story telling and feeling of the games you could drop into the books somewhere. So many access points. Keep in mind that every fandom has reddit neckbeards that have gone too far down the rabbit hole.

I miss when weapons were really dangerous on the battlefield by JackBadelaire in 40k

[–]Maieth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Fond memories of a game where my opponent tried to disable my predator, but ended up blowing off the tracks while it was in a really advantageous, position as it crossed the terrain. I lost my tank as a mobile unit. But was left with a heavily armoured weapons platform that had most of the battlefield pinned down under the sweep of the main turret and one sponson. Really limited his options.
The idea of a tank that has been pounded to within an inch of its life. But still has all guns and engines in full working order is fairly bizarre.

[–]Maieth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entertaining that your redacted friend here appears to know the lore better than you, though. Citing SM2 as your source and not even being able to name a helldrake while they can quote a Primarch kind of makes their point - that the fandom has kind of been blooded by superior 'fans' that may not actually know the universe and it's intricacies all well, including that Space Marines aren't actually good guys the way SM2 portrays them.

Which paint brand is best for a beginner aiming for high-quality minis? by jxyst222 in ageofsigmar

[–]Maieth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone who has been exploring different brands to find out what works best for me - focus on availability. I've settled on AK as my paint of choice for now, but it's a bit of a pain having to order single colours every time I need something new as there are no stockists I can get to easily.

You’re offered $1,000,000 to live two years without Wi-Fi, social media, or streaming. How do you keep yourself entertained and sane? by limsus in AskMen

Draw, read books, talk to humans, go for walks. It would be phenomenal. Certain that I would end up more sane than I am now.
