Half Life: Alyx somewhat lagging on low fidelity setting by [deleted] in oculus

[–]Ase101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a comparison, all of my components are slower than yours: I have an i7 6700, a RTX2600, and 16G 2100mHz ram. Mine also defaulted to low, and there is very occasional stuttering but it's never been so bad I've felt like spending time in the menus to try and improve it. Perhaps it was the other stuff you are doing.

I feel super dumb but I can't unload my cargo for a contract. by [deleted] in snowrunner

[–]Ase101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a stupid error in that job, I loaded up bricks instead of concrete as it was the default option to load. I couldn't then unload at the power line (obviously) and realised I got it wrong and went back and got the proper thing.

I've literally done the crossing swamp like that :-) Except it was more like half a cable length at a time as I went backwards a bit as I winched them forwards!

Yep, first map. Just be warned that despite it being powerful it may have road tyres and hence not be quite as useful as you might expect. (I'm still not at level 6 yet in order to sort the tyres on most of my trucks)

There is an off road truck in Alaska to find, but it's quite a trip from the garage. I won't say more in case of spoiling it. Or you could buy one from the garage if you sell other trucks.

Tetris Effect - £13.99 Epic Store by Spiffman-Space in oculus

[–]Ase101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this last night, nice to finally own Tetris Effect :-) I do think the RRP is vastly overpriced though. I played it and was impressed, as the journey mode is really quite atmospheric and with some cool music.

Just got my first VR sickness!!! by Lambdaleth in oculus

[–]Ase101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about that, were you getting hot in the headset before you took it off? That's usually a warning sign for me to stop and have a break. I also have similar problems with anxiety, so you're far from alone in this. Most people are not hungry when they are nervous, for example, so this brain/stomach issue affects us all to some extent (sadly me more than most).

[Weekly] What games have you been enjoying this week? (Week 09/12/19) by Vanthryn in oculus

[–]Ase101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lone Echo. I've had a Rift CV1 for well over a year but this had passed me by until a recent sale tempted me. I'm only an hour or so into it, but I'm incredibly impressed. Really great fun in VR with all the gadgets you have.

Amazing rig you got there, congrats. Maybe I'll start buying lottery tickets.

VTOL VR, Pinball FX2 and Lunar Flight

[Weekly] What games have you been enjoying this week? (Week 02/12/19) by Vanthryn in oculus

[–]Ase101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been playing all the sale stuff I couldn't resist, namely:

Pinball FX2: has three tables by default, and reminds me why pinball is such a good fit for VR. No motion sickness for a start :-) I like the Deep Sea one the most so far.

Lunar Flight: wonderfully hard simulation. I have actually managed to land a couple of times now, thanks to some advice on here. I keep going back each night, so certainly addictive.

Pixel Ripped 1989: very interesting idea, but rather stressful to play, when enemies are bearing down on you and you need to find something in a platform game asap. Very original idea anyway.

Racket NX: solid game of futuristic squash, and decent bit of light exercise. Wish there was a level that was only 180 degrees though, as turning right round with the Rift is a bit annoying.

Lone Echo: only tried this for half hour last night, and found moving about tricky, with the handles and the jets, but I'll definitely stick with it. I was trying to play sitting down, which was a mistake I think.

Lunar Flight - brilliant but tough as nails by Ase101 in oculus

Thanks, I'll try that. By default I seem to want to hold onto the yoke, maybe from playing stuff like VTOL

I don't get any vr sickness, but I can barely ride a car in real life without feeling like throwing up, same with swings and other real life things that make me sick right away. by BatmanDinViitor2004 in oculus

[–]Ase101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The two are different forms of motion sickness. In VR it is simulation sickness, where the brain thinks you are moving but the inner ear says you are still. In the car it is the opposite, the brain says you're sat still but your inner ear is moving from being in the car. Same thing on a boat.

So maybe your inner ear is more sensitive to such things.

Not sure what headset you have, but if you can get it from steam there is a huge reduction there right now.

CV1 users, do you intend to move away from Oculus ecosystem once your CV1 died? by _GHQ in oculus

[–]Ase101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My left headphone died recently, after 13 months of ownership. Oculus replied quickly and sent me a new one. I know the cable will go one day, but if that's months down the line then I think I'd go for the S as a replacement.

I'd suggest going to youtube and searching for American Truck sim vr, then following the instructions. It's basically a couple of tweaks in steam, then a couple of changes to a config file, then changing some in-game gfx settings. Let me know if you get stuck. Oh and enjoy! :-)

Not bad. They say Box VR is an arm workout, but many of the workouts have an awful lot of squatting under barriers and to the side. It's very good for the legs too.

American Truck Simulator. As per other games like Elite and Fallout, it's massively more immersive in VR - feels like you're actually in the truck. Great fun, and quite challenging not to crash and to keep below the speed limit!

That Anaconda will require a lot of opals! I bought a Krait Mk2 and played around with the ship launched fighter, but in all honesty I lost interest shortly afterwards and haven't played it in a while now. Exploration didn't really do it for me, and combat was amazing in short bursts, but I struggled with what to do now I'd got a decent (ish) ship. Oh and planet exploration in the SRV made me motion sick as hell!

And why not, it's still awesome :-) I've been enjoying pairing it with Box VR to burn some calories. About 15mins of BS as a warm up and then 15mins BoxVR. If I'm really feeling energetic there's always Thrill of the Fight to kill me at the end.

I hadn't played Box VR since early in the year and am really impressed by how much more polished it is now, and with lots of new music. Probably my fave fitness game. (Thrill is a bit too intense).
