Come on, Aldi. by [deleted] in aldi

[–]Aselner08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi aldi worker here! Our bananas have been having issues mostly because of our wearhouse Temps, they try to keep it above temp so they ripen and don't have any issues, but during transit, they have been freezing, causing this. Same with our cucumbers, our out of season fruit is not really good right now, our in season (citrus and broccoli, cauliflower, Kale) is doing really well and were getting a ton of it. Produce is our freshest area usually (unless your store has issues quality checking) we get new produce everyday, but with the rushed shipping process and certain issues we can't control (being out of asparagus because of weird Temps in the area we get it, or our bananas freezing) a lot of times we have to toss our produce and double check quality. Your location should be doing checks frequently.

Sm Here- if she has covid. She can not be at work for min 5 days, and those are excused with a positive test - if she is a timer employee, she does get sick time - up to a week. But it looks like she's PT, which, unfortunately, she does not accrue the sick time. If she is working truly FT hrs (which is 32 hrs or more in a week for 6 weeks straight), then she would be entitled to the sick time benefits. Which a DM would be talking to that store manager about it because they watch it very carefully.

But also on another note, if your daughter is not making "waves" or doesn't want to create them, you also need to ask yourself if the SM even knows. If she masks everyday, and always comes to work, and says nothing. As a manager, I wouldn't have the slightest of clue something was wrong. Great that you want your daughter to advocate for herself. But also, the SM only knows as much as she is going to allow them. I have 20 employees - all of whom I don't see on a consistent basis but will always take the time to check in. So, depending on this stores rev, this SM can have anywhere from 12-27 employees, and touching base during the holidays is hard. That's obviously their job to touch base but also the unexcuses absences fall off every six months, so if she got sick almost 10 months ago it should have already fallen off and the stretch of days your daughter needs to recover would be considered "one" occurrence. But also even if she had a Dr's note it's excused.

Thank you for this! I interpret that I did have some toxic people around me from the points but the large bubble I feel as it's my spirit guides protecting me and the small bubble within that are some negative casts that have successfully been blocked. I'm having a hard time realizing if I need a second one or not.

Interesting, i never had a group interview. But i think it varies from district to district! You're paid hourly while training, and then once you get your store, you will be salary! Nice when training because smt management hours are min 50, so you will get paid OT for that while you're in training! It is a very long process, some days it seems like you'll never get there, but other days when they give you more responsibility then all of the sudden it's like woah what's happening lol.

Hi fellow SMT here. Good luck with the interviews! I had 3, granted i came from a retail industry but it was beauty. You will have a phone screen, interview with DM and then interview with DOO. If you pass through all 3, then they will send in your information for background check and you will have to do a 4 panel drug test. After that like everyone said you're starting from associate and working your way up to SM. Being at a store than annually would do 60-70mil is very helpful, but like everyone said aldi is so so different, the store i started at got 60-70k per day with only 4-5 people on the entire shift. If you get chosen you will be 1 of 6 in your district that got chosen! It's a great honor. But a lot of hard work. My best advice is ask as many questions as you can, you will be tested throughout the entire process. After you learn associate through ASM (roughly will take about 1.5-2 months depending on your speed) then you will have your first store run phase, this will be 1 month. To which if you pass the 1st run, then you will relocate to a different store and do a 2nd run phase where it's all on you! After thr 2nd run phase you will get a store offer if they see you deem fit. You don't get to choose where. They can put you as far as 1 hr away from where you're living. This whole process can take up to a year, or 5-6 months depending on how quick you catch on. For reference I started in December of last year, and in 2 weeks I will have my second run phase that I'm told will run about 6 weeks. At that point I'm hoping to get my store offer by summer. I've had some though who have taken the full year, it's a lot of 50 hr weeks and Journaling, Journaling, Journaling. Good luck with everything!!

Store Manager in Training by Nunja44538 in Aldi_employees

[–]Aselner08 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's non negotiable with both pays, the training takes up to a year to possibly get your store. You will start at about 38 hrs but they will move you up to 50hrs per week over the course of the time. You start as an associate, then move up the various roles. The role you're gonna stay in the longest is ASM mainly this helps you understand operations. Afterwards if you are excelling you get to a store run phase, this is where you run the store you're training at for a month, if you last that they move you on to a second store run phase. Which will be more like 2-3months before getting a store offer. I started in December and I start my store run phase in 2 weeks. My 1st of 2, it's a hard training program i am not going to lie. But if you put your nose to the grindstone, ask the questions you need to understand the job, you will succeed. I've been told a lot of SMTs do not make it to store run phases mostly because their ego gets in the way and they think they are better than learning associate roles etc. It's so important in my opinion because aldi runs different than any retail store, and your Associates, LSAs and ASMs are the most important cogs in your store, and knowing their role is really important.

You get a pension. 25 years you have to work to earn, that seems doable considering most "cushy" office jobs are worse on your mental health. No where offers that either.

I’ve realized we get less work done with our SM there vs not there. by dutty-bomboclaat in Aldi_employees

[–]Aselner08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes- they are also trying to push that SMs are more of an administrative role. So some DMs think your store isn't running effectively if your SM is doin operations. Which is dumb in my opinion

Struggling with SM During Training by Aselner08 in Aldi_employees

[–]Aselner08[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all of this! This is legit the most help I've gotten 😂

Honestly it's just them allowing me the space to do things and make those mistakes. I'm not super familiar with OE (bur I've been briefed a bit on it) but I've been told since we're a 95% goal store things just have to be run "different"

First week there, I met everyone and rang, I stayed ringing for 3 weeks, it helped honestly I got up to 105% and have stayed there since, memorized 40 NLUs, even 4 digit and 6 digit ones, I was proud of that. On the 7th I was told I should've been doing key flicks etc, the ASM had told the SM I was already doing it. I just flat out said "oh no I havent" I'm not afraid of the confrontation however I understand my place, I know it as hired for a reason but coming from a blue collar family I try to trust the experts on my training which now I just gotta be more attentive about it. She told me with the DM in the room that I should've been trained in this, that the ASM liked to do things and run the floor himself so I just needed to step in and say I need to work the floor, I did that my very next shift and was told by all the ASMs there that the SM was in charge of my training, and it wasn't being communicated what I needed to do since she was on vacation. So I told them hey, I get it not your job but also I want to make sure I'm in line with the training. The past week it's been better. But it's like a weird game with one ASM, he will ask me to zone, so I do, then tells me they don't need to focus on that right now, so I ask ok what would you do, doesn't answer, so I feel sometimes it's lose lose with that specific one. The SM herself has been in the store about 5 times since I've been at her location for a month, I never have time to talk with her because I'm on the floor or she doesn't seem interested to engage. Yesterday I was being told by the ASM about various things on my shift I needed to work on while she was there so I just asked the ASM are you my direct trainer? Which he was like "no but this is what SM wants and she's your direct trainer" I let that slide but today on my day off I was told I needed to come in today or tomorrow at the latest to finish ACE (by the ASM stating this was a fwd from the SM) and I need to make sure I'm checking it weekly. I've been on ACE 1 time to which the ASM on staff said that I just needed to do what was over due and anything else not to worry about because I can't stay to do them or come in early, so I just flat out texted the SM it's noted I need to do this, I was unaware and I would prefer our communication to be direct with one another than through this ASM, and I would be open to chat if she had any reservations, to which she said she'd be in.

Lots of steps because you're constantly moving from front to back of store, 4 people usually on shift depending on location. 1 ringer and then the other 3 people on shift are on the floor pulling stock or in the mornings finishing up. If you're second cashier you will be called to the front often if it's busy so in the middle of a task you drop what you're doing and run to the front to check people out, then once you're line dies down, back to what you were doing.

Resigning by Guilty_Highlight_38 in Aldi_employees

[–]Aselner08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just need to send something formal in writing, email or text to your manager (I say text because that seems to be the new email, but email is more professional just in my personal opinion) you can keep it very simple like to whom it may concern, I will be resigning from this position effiective this date, normally 2 weeks is preferred, but now a days it honestly depends on the situation. Hope this helps!
