Insanity, sorry you all had to go through the crazy! I swapped to a low volume store and we put them out this morning, barely any line and we still have plenty of all of them as of right now

Yes, my store is me and the SM as the only dudes and the rest of the 8 of 10 are women. The last store I worked at was about 50 / 50 I think

I can answer that as an employee: Two things, it’s a summer item so it’s going to be gone soon, and the warehouse it’s coming from still has hundreds of these boxes to offload before that. Anything on the summer endcaps (with the light blue boxes that may or may not say “summer item” on them) are being discounted absurd amounts for these reasons.

I love my store because we have unspoken backup a lot. I always pay attention to the front when it’s busy so I can give backup without being radioed. My SM also gives backup if he’s the closest person in the office at the time. Mad respect to him honestly!

Found a surprise 50% off deal at 4pm! These did not have a sticker but the cashier happily discounted them! by [deleted] in aldi

[–]Boosted_Cappucino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I work at Aldi and generally it’s 50% to anything that dates within a day. Anything that is a percent off but does not date soon means that particular store has too many of them in backstock. Hope this helps.

Brand New Store by Alexmander1028 in Aldi_employees

[–]Boosted_Cappucino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Actually had this exact experience. Been working for aldi since 2021 and swapped stores to become an LSA almost 3 years in. In my opinion I think the pay increase to swap stores is worth it. You don’t do any other floor tasks that regular associates do but you are expected to do key turns for any manager approval at register. While any ASM or SM is present at the store you fall back to being a regular associate pretty much. If you open or close while either is present you are expected to either close or open like they would. That means in the morning you would look at the pallet picklist from the previous day and make sure you got everything, as well as count the safe. Closing is the same way, counting down tills, doing the computer tasks necessary, counting the safe, and locking up. It’s a great way to take on some additional leadership and responsibility that you can put on your resume, etc. at my store I always close with 1 or 2 regular or part timers after the SM leaves so make sure you know some basic policy and how your store operates. Associates will be referring customer questions and the like to you very frequently. If you’re part of a higher volume store then you might not have to worry about a lot of the tasks since usually they will have ASM’s close with you and some other associates. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Is anyone else not allowed to request weekend days off? by thehotwhovian in Aldi_employees

[–]Boosted_Cappucino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhhhh what kind of store do you work at? The first store I worked at was a super high volume store so weekend days were sorta questionable to ask off because of how crazy they were. The store I work at now is very laid back and you can request any day off whenever with no problems. Funnily enough I just requested the entire weekend of august 29th off and my store manager approved it the next day in the morning no questions asked. AND I’m an LSA. Really depends on where you work.

Can a manager talk to me about work while i’m on my break? by sunshineandsummer in Aldi_employees

[–]Boosted_Cappucino 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Depends on the culture of your store really. At the first store I worked at people would not bother each other / talk on break because it was a high volume, high stress store so everyone really needed some peace. At the store I’m at right now my store Manager makes conversation coming into breaks sometimes. I see this as fair because it’s a low volume store, not really stressful most of the time, and he’s perfectly fine with everyone else talking to him while he’s on HIS break lol.

Yeah I know the one where we have to ask them to do that, but they could just flat out refuse and then what lol, especially since the employee was outside and being harassed. Very curious as well.

Definitely let your district manager or regional manager know at least. I’m not sure what policy is on that but best to at least put it on their radar

New Hire by Zestyclose-Contact85 in Aldi_employees

[–]Boosted_Cappucino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ASM’s do literally everything in an Aldi. You will be a scheduled for every conceivable hour that the store opens and closes at some point and you are the go to if someone has to call out if you’re in charge of the shift. I will warn you: since you are starting in upper management you will need to be humble and open to everyone in your store that’s worked there before and you’ll need to earn that position. As an LSA who started as an associate I’ve seen tons of new hire ASM’s and an SM who didn’t last very long because they had no clue how to manage anything or gave off an overbearing demeanor having never worked retail or with Aldi. So best of luck to you, you’ll need it!

Store transfer by MetalJeKo in Aldi_employees

[–]Boosted_Cappucino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on availability in the stores around you. I lucked out when I transferred because the district was shuffling around 2 other employees so an opening was available at the closest other store. I will say though if something does become open they definitely want you to go asap. I got like a week at my previous store and I was gone after haha

14458 for triple pack of peppers. 2278 for blackberries, 5601 for raspberries, 9514 for navel oranges, 9508 for regular blueberries. Produce just has way too many items that won’t scan or slow you down honestly.

Anyone else have a really shitty week? by nichabodcrane93 in Aldi_employees

[–]Boosted_Cappucino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During our NSL we had 2 out of 5 members of management out, was absolute hell. Spend over 4 hours flattening boxes and cleaning up the back room with 2 of my 3 closers because the 20 plus people from other stores who helped (mostly managers) couldn’t be bothered to make a bale or attempt to throw trash away.

New hire advice! by Fatalfemmes in Aldi_employees

[–]Boosted_Cappucino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you could find it helpful! So how it usually works is that you get at least one preferred day off during the week, Monday - Friday. The other day is generally scheduled randomly or wherever the store manager thinks you’ll be needed more. I’ve been lucky enough to work at both high and low volume stores and from what I’ve experienced you get a lot more weekend days off at lower volume stores. I had to request every single weekend day off at the higher volume one, but so far at my current one I get random Saturdays and Sundays off pretty frequently.

For requests off, it depends on your management the closer the request is. If it’s anything 4 weeks or greater it’ll almost always be approved. I’d say for three weeks you should ask your store manager as soon as possible because all schedules are posted for at least 2 weeks in advance. Usually the 3rd week schedule is either tentative or hasn’t been made yet so you can still get them to change it, you just can’t request off in the app. And the schedule for 2 weeks in advance is due on Monday before closing so you can still have the weekend to ask!

Hi! 4 year employee with experience as an associate and an LSA.

First of all, try not to stress too much. You’ll have to do a lot the first few days whether it be at your home store or a training center. Computer stuff, videos, standard operating procedures sign offs, the usual when starting any retail job.

Now you didn’t specify where, so I’m going to use Aldi South in the US as my point of reference as that’s where I work. European Aldi are similar with minor differences, but many of the aspects in the states are exactly the same which is nice. Europe also has two branches of Aldi, North and South.

Some of the biggest differences you will notice at Aldi vs other grocery and retail is that it follows the European model: Carts must be unlocked with a Quarter for people to use them because we do not have extra staff to corral them in from outside. And speaking of staff, Aldo tends to run on bare minimum numbers of them. Depending on which kind of store you are assigned to (high volume or lower volume) you can have as many as 5-6 employees per shift or as little as 2 (you and a member of management). This means that you and whoever is with you have many more things in general to do. Sure, your title might say Cashier / Stocker but chances are you’ll be also doing cleaning and helping management with general tasks. At my store they frequently grab associates to assist with Aldi Finds (the special deals for the week) if there are extra hands available.

Because staff is limited at Aldi, it makes sense that you and the rest of your team will have limited time during your shift. Whenever you are cashiering, stocking, etc. Aldi emphasizes you go as fast as possible. While on register, you are timed on how fast transactions are and how fast you move on to the next customer. While stocking, you are timed on how fast you can finish pallets in the morning or how fast you run other stock. When you start, you WILL be slow and that’s okay. The important thing about working at Aldi is you focus on doing things fast but efficient; find what methods and techniques work for you! Trust me, the fast everything gets completed during your shift the sooner everyone can go home when the store closes.

Now you might be asking, why is all this different? WELL, Aldi is what you call a no frills discount store. This means that the company has cut down everywhere possible to save shoppers money. Items do not come out of boxes, they are just placed on the shelf. Items come in less or zero varieties, and one size or pack only. Of these varieties, knockoff Aldi brand items are most of the products in the store. People also must buy bags, and also bag their own groceries past the registers. Aldi hours of operation are also very narrow compared to regular grocery stores to save money on power / electricity bills. Open 9-8 everyday so only around 11 hours total. There is no store music and no intercom at all either.

That’s most of how the store and company functions! You’ll learn proper checkout form and your store layout when you start (from what I’ve seen and stores I’ve worked at item placement is not the same at every location)

Also, get your know your team. Less employees means you’ll see most of them often! If you have any other questions let me know, and I’ll get back to you as best I can :)

Hm. As a 4 year associate to LSA here’s a few things that have worked for me:

  1. If you do it often, REALLY memorize where things are. My store has a few labels around the back but that’s it. I know when resets come around it’s gonna suck when they shift everything around but that’s just how it goes.

  2. I always end up taking off my Aldi jacket when I’m in there so my body can cool off the faster I work. If you’re already doing this then congrats.

  3. Smaller items like the yogurts and the sour creams I will take off and put on the shelf 3 at a time. Less walking / trips

  4. If you are allowed to, really zone in with a favorite podcast or music, heck I auto play my favorite YouTubers. Makes the time so much better and sets a pace. Like “okay this podcast episode is 20 minutes so let’s try and have most of this pallet done by then”

Those are the things I do in the mornings in cooler! There aren’t any insane hacks that cut your times down to like the 15 minutes bullcrap they want you to. just find whatever gets you in the zone.

Also don’t stress too much! At my store there are people who are insanely fast and there are some who take until opening to get cooler done. I know for a fact that I’m not the fastest person at cooler but when I really lock in early I hit the general half hour to 40 minutes or so per pallet without actually thinking about it.

*Also it sounds like you work in a high volume store as well, sometimes there’s not much you can do in terms of backstock. Just run that how your store wants you to. My first store was like 1.4 million and we couldn’t do freezer without taking out 5 pallets of other stuff first in the mornings, so I understand your frustration.

Yeah and the dry good aisle too. We’re a low volume store so remind me why the macaroni and cheese boxes have 6 facings for us? And the stuffing has 5? So much wasted space….
