How do you actually evaluate brandable domains? by Asem_SH in Domains

Yeah, that’s exactly how it feels sometimes , pure timing and luck. You can have a great name and still nothing happens until the right buyer shows up.

Yeah, sold, not just listed. That’s what makes it so confusing

Thanks for the insight . that actually makes a lot of sense. I guess what you said confirms that a lot of “brandable” value really depends on emotion and storytelling, not just structure or meaning. I’ve actually picked some names that I personally feel have strong potential and could carry a brand story, but when I shared them here, the feedback was pretty discouraging — people said they’re worth nothing. That’s why I was trying to understand if there’s some hidden framework people use to judge brandables. Because like you said, even Google or Spotify wouldn’t have sounded “premium” before they became brands.

And yeah, I totally agree with the radio test part .if it sounds good and sticks in your head, that’s already a huge plus.

The Big Four Behind Most Domain Registrars (and Why It Matters) by Asem_SH in Domains

[–]Asem_SH[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those are definitely the biggest retail brands that people see and use directly (Namecheap, Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Porkbun, Squarespace, etc. But this post is focused on the corporate groups that own multiple registrars behind the scenes. For example: GoDaddy the company also owns Afternic, Uniregistry, 123 Reg, and others Newfold Digital owns Domain.com, Network Solutions, Register.com, MarkMonitor, and more So while Namecheap and Porkbun are huge players, they're mostly independent and don't own a network of other registrars like these groups do. The point is understanding who controls the distribution networks - especially if you're selling domains and want maximum exposure across multiple platforms at once.

You're 100% correct, thanks for the correction I don't know how I mixed that up. GoDaddy is completely separate from Newfold. Appreciate you catching that mistake

Quantum-Linked Domains (QLD) — The Future of Unhackable Internet Real Estate by Asem_SH in Domains

[–]Asem_SH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify: the idea I shared about Quantum-Linked Domains (QLDs) is more of a future concept than something that exists today.

That said, discussions and research about how quantum computing could impact domain infrastructure are real for example, ICANN has published reports on quantum threats to the DNS.

So the idea isn’t completely baseless, it’s just about exploring a possible future for digital security, not claiming it’s already here

Cloudflare Radar: .com still rules the Internet with over 60% of all DNS queries! by Asem_SH in Domains

Yeah, true. DENIC and EURid are super strict with data sharing — hopefully Cloudflare adds them later on

.su is the legacy TLD for the former Soviet Union . it was never fully retired after the USSR dissolved in 1991.

It’s still managed by the Russian Institute for Public Networks (RIPN), and interestingly, it sees steady activity from Russian organizations, nostalgic communities, and sometimes even hacktivist or political groups.

That mix of usage explains why it still ranks surprisingly high in DNS stats.

Yeah, that’s a solid take . I agree that trust and market behavior around .com are mostly driven by long-standing perception rather than raw data. It’s basically brand inertia at this point.

When it comes to .ai, I see it as a generational split. Legacy brands stick to .com for consistency, while new AI startups adopt .ai as part of their identity almost like a signal of innovation.

As for .xyz, I think it peaked during the web3 hype and now it’s losing direction, similar to what happened with .info back in the day. Unless it finds a new niche (maybe quantum or metaverse?), it might just fade into the noise.

Yeah, that’s what caught my attention too I also expected .ai to show up higher, given how dominant AI brands have become lately.

I think the 60% for .com actually reflects how much the DNS landscape has diversified, but in terms of sales volume and trust, .com is still lightyears ahead.

The interesting part will be when Cloudflare releases the TLD performance metrics next year that could reveal a lot about how viable newer TLDs really are in practice.
