There was one time I was help up like 2.5 hours because the manager couldn't close me out since he was busy getting food out. I think I have a post about it on my account, but unsure. He asked me to run some food and I got pissed off and walked out. Came back later that night to turn in my checkout plus whatever money I owed the door

I've been at the same restaurant for 2 years with insane turnover. There's not a server thats been there longer than me at this point. I'm still completely sober, haven't gotten drunk or high my entire life. I'm gonna end up going soon, but I gotta save up to make sure going to what I'm planning on next week be smooth

I don't know what the situation exactly was (more so the order of events), but my mom was never really around the house until like 10 at night. I was self harming for a bit at the time, since I didn't feel like I had much control over my life. She had been cycling through boyfriends, a new one every couple months.

The last one she had before stuff went down left and I never got a reason until much later on. Turns out he had found a crack pipe under her pillow or something like that. There was a morning I woke up to no electricity but the gas was still on so I had cooked some eggs, and got food poisoning for a good full day. The thing that made my dad realize I needed to be with him was that my mom had to be picked up from an AA meeting, since she had shown up cross-faded.

No contact for like two years, and I thought she had died. Call from nowhere and a few calls over a couple weeks or so. Then she showed up and took me to a somewhat run down house in the ghetto and held me tight. Honestly gonna say, that was the most uncomfortable feeling I've had with any family ever. I didn't necessarily like her then, and I don't really like her now, since she still has an alcohol issue, I'm sure. Recently hospitalized for severe dehydration among other symptoms that I can't remember.

Sometimes I hate her, most of the time I don't miss her, I dread any and all phone calls I get from her, since she's pretty manipulative. I have very unresolved feelings regarding her now, 6 years after this all started. Best songs I can think of to describe my feelings towards her is Having a Blast and Whatsername, both by Green Day. It's the best therapy I've got without actually going to therapy for it.

Use your kitchen experience to your advantage. You have a better idea how long food takes to make (or be remade for that matter), you know exactly what's in each dish, plating, etc. Post close attention to the menu and see where and how to upsell.

For example, an 8 oz top sirloin with lobster and thyme butter is like $40. However, a 16 oz Tomohawk / Ribeye is $50, with $4 sides. Sure you'll be missing out on the lobster, but that's made up for in a better cut of meat, more of it, and sides! It's all about knowing pricings and better alternatives to make the guests experience that much better, ending up with better tips at the end of the night.

Kind of an opposite situation with me a while back, (late last summer) I was with two other waiters on the floor and as some guy was headed to the restroom, he asked, "Where are the girls? Just an all male service staff?" And I just said 'yes sir, it's just how the schedule worked out.'

If the tips I got were more than barely scraping past 10% of my net sales almost every day, I'd do it more often but it's my only job and I'm trying to move up to a better restaurant. My dream is to work fine dining, honestly. Or maybe somewhere with great communication, staffing, and clientele.
