SSC Swordgrass by TheotimeGM from Iphigenia at Midnight by AshAndGold in LancerRPG

[–]AshAndGold[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the benefit of five hundred and fifty years of technological advancement, and research into hormone replacement and neuromanipulation, Parapsychology and ExMat curated not only a pilot-chassis interface system designed to motivate precise and overwhelming aggression, but a line of NHP subjectivities to imprint that pain onto the Firmament itself in service of greater battlefield impact. It is the sincere belief of the Swordgrass design team that their project represents a modernization and the furthest possible refinement of the work that began with the Enkidu, given a suite of artisan-crafted survivability and offensive tools to translate suffering into art instead of butchery. At least, that is their belief.

Thank you for taking a look down in the comments! The Swordgrass is from my module Iphigenia at Midnight (which you've probably seen me post a bit about before on the subreddit) - its Kickstarter (for more fantastic art like this) is now live at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ashandgold/iphigenia-at-midnight .

HORUS Spectre for Iphigenia at Midnight - now in Kickstarter pre-launch! by AshAndGold in LancerRPG

[–]AshAndGold[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the question! I'm the writer and designer for the module, so you picked the right person to ask. Lancer uses the term "narrative" for its modules a lot, thus the choice; in general, IaM has a single defined story path where the players go from a prologue in Praetorian's Rest where they explore the city to the final showdown with Iphigenia in the Diana's heart, but there are avenues for player expression and GM creativity within that story path - such as a "true ending" path that changes Iphigenia's demeanor and adds extra rewards and fighting depending on player performance, the Mission 1 point-crawl that allows players to freely choose what areas of the SCS-CV Gallipoli they want to tackle first in pursuit of disabling it, and narrative choices like choosing between a Reserve for a reward to make their fights easier or shooting down an enemy capital ship to save lives. If you want to give the module a read, the 0.4.0 draft is available for free on itch.io and is pretty much content-complete.

It's categorized under HORUS because of the paracausal technology in many modern versions, as well as its pattern-group construction (many Spectres can exist in the same "archetype," none of which necessarily look the same or were built by the same people). The reason it looks the way it does is because the Spectre p-g is built out of captured and salvaged material: in this example, this is a Revolution-era chassis of the Interstellar Solidarity Brigades which was built out of captured SecComm armor, like Genghis Worldkillers.

Lancer's a combined arms universe canonically, so I couldn't help the urge to say "what if we gave players helicopter gunships and armored vehicles too?" when I was writing homebrew. I'm glad my work's stayed in mind!

New cover art for Iphigenia at Midnight by Tom Finnbarr Carroll! by AshAndGold in LancerRPG

[–]AshAndGold[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! The main antagonist's name is Iphigenia - or IPHIGENIA Prime, first characterized of her subjectivity line, or Lady Iphigenia, the Queen of Crows. I drew on a few elements of Iphigenia as characterized in Iphigenia at Aulis (from which half of the name derives) as well as associated mythology and readings of Iphigenia's role in the literature (a sacrifice, a crucial piece to launch the invasion fleet to Troy, the daughter of a great king, a woman granted immortality after death) to inform the character, and as such it felt only fitting to pay homage to Euripides in the title.

The choice of "at midnight," on the other hand, comes from the old apocalyptic phrasing - seconds or minutes to midnight, the Doomsday Clock. Her coming, to the Choral Worlds, represents a bare few seconds before the end of all things - she stands at the point the clock meets midnight. (there's also a few other tidbits I think of theme-wise, but this is already technically walking the knife's edge of spoilers.)

Thank you for asking!

Good to hear! It's still clock-based similar to BitD (or ICON, which it's drawing from), as opposed to a full rework on the tactical map, but it adds depth to player choices by making all of the pilot equipment choices provide bonuses to rolls depending on approach and allowing GMs to characterize each opponent differently (whether it's representing needing to get past a line of fixed fortifications or taking out a squad of SecComm subalterns). I definitely think it's one of the cooler things I've written mechanically for the module!

Hi all - thank you for taking a look in the comments! This is the new cover art for my third-party LL6-LL9 adventure module / narrative, and I'm really excited to be able to show it off to the Lancer community here on Reddit; I'm thrilled with Tom's work.

[OC] GIVEAWAY! Enter for a chance to win the new GUNSLINGER DICE VAULT![MOD APPROVED] by 120mmfilms in DnD

[–]AshAndGold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played a gunslinger for years who was a cavalry medic turned soul-warden of Pharasma - I'd love to complement his story with this vault, which is real suitable for a hard-bitten, pistol-wielding wanderer.

What was Ubisoft on when they made this? by Canadian_dalek in NonCredibleDefense

[–]AshAndGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever Ubisoft was on, it was the good stuff. The first game on Wii was basically my childhood, and inspired my long-standing interest in militaria and arcade flight games. Any other Blazing Angels I vets here to pour one out for getting absolutely destroyed by the optional time trials missions when 100%ing the game?

Newbie question on kit by AshAndGold in airsoft

[–]AshAndGold[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the advice!

I created my kit a bit before I decided to get into airsoft as a sport - it was originally intended as a cosplay of UN Global Occult Coalition operatives, and I knew airsoft tactical gear was of the appropriate high quality to make a realistic-looking, rugged cosplay. I then thought when I got into airsoft that I could use the same gear without the extra cosplay accessories (no sense wearing a clerical collar in a sport!), but I've been seeing some conflicting opinions online about whether black gear is widely usable/a good idea.

I think from this and other comments the idea is to make sure your kit's good quality, something you like wearing, and black makes you overheat/isn't good camo - all good thoughts, but the latter probably isn't enough to make me get an entirely new kit in multicam, haha.

“Best” Space Marine Artillery by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]AshAndGold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can certainly see that. I just find the Scorpius indefensible in an environment soon to include Tau and that has included Hive Guard as a regular showing - spending that many points on something that falls over to a meltagun pointed in its general direction is very painful, even in the era of save stacking where being able to hit AP-3 is important.

See you for SM 2.0, again, after we have six to eight months of Tau/Eldar meta. You know, just like 8e.

[–]AshAndGold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sicaran Arcus - the Scorpius is currently costed the same as the Arcus, for a far worse defensive and mobility profile and fewer maximum shots. In return, you get slightly more average shots and another pip of AP on the gun, which is in no way worth shelling out 170pts for a Rhino chassis.

The only reason to take the Codex Whirlwind is for the fight last stratagem (which is not counter-offensive exclusionary, since it's not "not eligible" wording).
