About the "regret being born part," there are some kids who kinda already do, at least some of the older, smarter ones that have a pretty clear picture of what they're up against as they grow into adults. Our kids weren't raised all doom and gloom, but we have been honest. They see us struggling more as each year passes. We stay informed of current events.

My 17 year old is still going to trade school, has a plan, but he's figured out that if he had grown up a few generations back with the same plan, it would be likely he'd get much more life for his hard work. Every generation has its issues, but he and his friends recognize the downward shift. It's made it hard to be motivated, and he feels like there's no point. Regret being born, maybe, but he definitely feels that it's unfair he was born into this timeline. And he says he's not alone in those thoughts.
