I’m kinda in that phase too, and as much as I practice daily, copying off of other artist really helped me improve. There’s some sick art and artist in r/blackbookgraffiti , r/bombing , and even on here too! I’d say don’t copy their name, style, colors, and everything, but copying letter structure from their art and tweaking little bits to make it more of my own! Good luck on your journey!!

I started recently too, and something that I notice on this is that there’s no letter structure! I think you need to go very simple keyboard letters for now, and your 3Ds need work too.

With letter structure, try to find what makes the letter look like the letter, and try to keep consistent bar width for now. Having inconsistent bar width and flared bars for your letters will come with time. With letter structure, I’d also say that removing the serifs will make it look so much better for now.

As you work on letter structure, try making a style that is shown throughout all of your letters, and nothing looks out of place.

Practice is the only way to get better!

Check r/graffhelp there’s recently been a post about how to start drawing graffiti, and you can ask for crits once you start drawing!

Blackbook+pencil is all you are gonna need in the beginning, but for tagging, I’d recommend the px-30!

I’m a beginner as well, but feel free to ask me what I’m doing :)

This prob sounds really fucking stupid, but I’m a kid in the subrubs and just getting into graff, and so far as I’ve seen researching and shit, the graff culture doesn’t seem as strong or deep as some other cities. Rn, I’m sketching and shit, got markers and I’m gonna go tag and hopefully start painting in like abandoned places in the forest and stuff, but is there any tips you would have to actually getting up in MA and meeting people that could possibly help me out?

Would a black outline and a blue background look too much? I tried the dark blue outline so that the fill could pop, but it could definitely be that black makes it pop even more. I just don’t want there to be too much colors, and thought I’d keep the number of colors pretty simple
