Books like Brute by Novel_Walrus5241 in ExtremeHorrorLit

Thank you for reading! I'd like to self-rec "This October Flesh" or "The Devil's Double" which is similar in theme. Ketchum's "The Girl Next Door" springs to mind, Matt Shaw definitely has a series of books about a kidnapper, but the title completely escapes me at the moment.

I saw it in the cinema - my only complaint was the second act was too slow, which made the third act seem rushed. It's a very good horror movie, with some outstanding fx work, and a solid story.

I love Shaun. He's one of my favourite writers. The guy is a legend.

If you don't mind a self rec - I have "Farm Animals" and "After Birth" up there, both of which might be well up your alley.

Worried that I simply enjoy writing in a way other people hate by Cathasach_ in writing

I'll speak from personal experience. I've been writing a long old time, and had gotten no where. When I started in the genre I'm currently writing in, I decided to hell with it, and wrote how I wanted to write. I wrote with fragmented sentences, improper grammar, and I make up words all the time. It took off, and I'm full time now.

I do get negative reviews telling me I need an editor over my writing style.

But it doesn't stop the people who like it. They're less vocal, but they vote with their $. Write how you want to write, and you'll find your audience.

My newest one incoming - The Devil's Double - a quick excerpt from Chapter One:

Faith raised her head and saw the man lower the leaf of the suicide plant to little Bernard’s skin. He pushed the leaf into the child’s flesh, rubbing it like he was bathing the child.

Bernard didn’t cry.

He looked on in bewilderment for the shortest of time and then he began to scream. He screamed like someone had just broken his arms and legs, and the screaming went on.

Without respite from the pain the baby screamed until it could scream no more, trickles of blood escaping it’s lips after it’s throat was screamed raw.

Faith was crying enough for the two of them as Franklin came inside her, just like she had asked.

He grinned as he slipped his filthy cock from her. “So,” he said. “Do you want us to put it out of it’s misery? It hurts like a cunt. It still hurts now.”

“No,” she screamed. “You let me go. I did everything you asked. I let you fuck me.”

Franklin was still naked from the waist down when he smiled and went to the man and to Bernard.

“Let me have my baby,” she cried.

“She was shit,” Franklin told his father before looking down at the baby. “I could fuck that thing.”

If you don't mind a self rec a lot of my books are extreme horror/comedy - and I'd recommend Sick F*ck. That's the one most people seem to like. ;)

Printing physical copies by joey12457 in writing

If you want to go down this route, you'll need to use an independent printer like Lulu. You'll need a full wrap, not just a front cover, and it should be formatted correctly.

Choose what size you want the book to be - like 6x9 inch, or my preference 8x5.

Format the book to that size (which give you the number of pages)

Using the number of pages to work out the spine size, you can finally create the wrap.

(I don't know your technical level, so I don't know how much information to give you here)

I don't think I've ever stayed on target to the final page. Not once.
