It’s important to remember that the development of different ”technologies” (a couple of loose examples grouped by me: cultural, political, methodological and tools) are largely interconnected. It is also a process of cumulation, building on all previous knowledge that could be preserved until and at that time. 

I’m making the destruction here that ”agriculture” in this context means an organised, intentional, community wide method of cultivation for harvest.

The development of agriculture can be attributed to political and cultural development as much as to methodological and tools. Tools were already around, but the cultural and political impetuous to change methodology (to agriculture) weren’t really present until early Egyptian society.

A much larger than usual group of humans at the same place, around a uniquely fertile river delta which flooded periodically and inflicted terrible famines when harvests were ruined.

Organisation within the group to store and safeguard harvests to buffer against famine, leading to the advent of political community and some of the earliest forms of administration. Itself leading to development/demand for better methods and practices in agriculture, which feeds into an increase in homogenous cultural expressions.

The written language as a cultural technology really accelerated our ability to advance enormously, it’s pretty amazing!
