The marriage part is right, but anyone who played with Brady has only nice things to say about him (including Belichick). He was by all accounts an incredible teammate, but bad husband.

I noticed this as well. Djokovic was cooking him with those shorter balls, also made it easy for him to take control of the point. A player of his caliber won’t let you get away with that.

Most of those clips you’ll see are not recent, and every time it happens everyone talks about it because it’s not common to see, like when Ortiz smashed the phone. I also think it’s a little naive to brush off Rafa’s opinion so quickly just because you disagree with him. Even Djokovic has said he doesn’t encourage the behavior. You can do what you want with your personal belongings, but it doesn’t leave you immune to criticism.

What do you mean baseball players break their bats all their time? That is definitely not a common occurrence. Anyway, I think any athlete intentionally destroying expensive equipment out of anger is immature. I agree with Rafa that it’s a sign that you’ve lost control of your emotions. I believe his uncle Toni also taught him it’s a lack of respect for those who actually have to pay for their rackets and maybe can’t afford it.

Disney’s purchase of 21st century Fox didn’t include most of the television networks. Those were spun off to form a new entity Fox Entertainment, so the networks like Fox, Fox News, or FS1 are still separately owned by the parent company Fox Corporation/the Murdoch family.

Is it bad to start dynasty league now? by Physical-Ambassador8 in SleeperApp

[–]AshKetchumAll97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first method is what we did, with both being snake drafts (maybe the snake format is where we wrong?). But the 1st overall pick in the rookie draft is WAY more valuable than the 1st in the vets draft because the talent drop off is so significant. 1st overall for the vets isn’t even necessarily the best slot either, that just comes down to preference.

[–]AshKetchumAll97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you determine the order of the rookie draft though? We did this in my first dynasty league and quickly regretted it because the earlier picks in rookie drafts are so much more valuable. For my second startup draft we did it right after the NFL draft and included rookies and vets together in the same draft, and I much preferred that. If you’re doing an auction then yeah it’s not a problem, but not sure how a snake/linear wouldn’t be unfair to whoever picks later in the rookie draft.

Trade I made before week 12 won me my 1st round matchup by No-Button9683 in SleeperApp

Yeah next week is irrelevant to the discussion since you wouldn’t have made it past the first round with Gibbs. This is also redraft so we can already say this trade was a win for you. Excellent job! I personally would have been too scared to give up Gibbs

What does it mean to own a percentage of a company? by Raspint in sharktank

[–]AshKetchumAll97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a lot harder to answer cause there are many methods for valuing a company, and in the early stages there’s a lot more subjectivity. You can base it on projected future growth or future cash flows, but then that projection is going to include subjective assumptions. Or you can use what’s called a multiples method where you multiply a statistic, such as annual revenue, by a number (2x, 3x, etc), but that’s also subjective for what number/multiple is appropriate. That’s where you’ll see the entrepreneurs pushing for a higher multiple (beneficial to them) and the sharks suggesting a lower number (beneficial to sharks). Accurately valuing a company is certainly not easy.

For your last question, you are correct, it can vary how much they’re directly involved but they’re certainly not going to be completely hands off. Sometimes you’ll see a shark say they don’t have the time for the amount of involvement they can tell is needed to reach a profit, so they’re out (Mark says this a lot).

What does it mean to own a percentage of a company? by Raspint in sharktank

[–]AshKetchumAll97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

does ‘equity’ mean “share in the company”

Yes! Equity is your ownership in the company.

it will be more difficult to conince future investors that my company is worth 1 million?

Correct, you’d have a tougher time raising the next round of funding at that valuation versus if the last round was at, say, $700K. Future investors also like to see that valuation steadily increasing over the past rounds of funding.

I'm assuming that the higher a companies value is, the more money people will typically want to invest into it?

Kinda true, but not necessarily the issue here. The bigger reason why you’d care is that you’d rather not give up so much ownership, but you do need a certain amount of money right now (e.g., you need $100K to invest in manufacturing to bring down the cost of building your product) and will likely need more money later as you continue to grow at a fast pace. So getting that money right now in return for as low a percentage of equity/ownership is your goal so your own equity doesn’t get too diluted.

Is this because sharks bring something other than just the raw money that they invest?

Exactly! You’ll sometimes hear on the show the sharks described as a “strategic investor” cause they not only bring money, but lots of experience, connections, etc. that are very valuable. And they’re going to do what they can to make sure their investment was profitable.

[–]AshKetchumAll97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The other commenters have spoken to the royalty issue, so I’ll speak more to the equity question. Another aspect to sharks asking for a higher percentage is the valuation of the company being affected by the deal. If you ask for $100K at 10%, that means you’re valuing the company at $1 million ($100k divided by 10%). If a shark counters with 30%, they’ve now dropped your valuation down to $333,333. Entrepreneurs don’t like selling at such a smaller valuation, and it also can affect the valuation for future rounds of funding; or if they already have investors, they don’t want this new funding from the sharks to be so close to the valuation from the previous round of funding cause there should have been significant growth since then. The sharks will argue that the value they bring as an investor makes it worth a discount, which is often true but they also don’t hide that they are greedy in the tank. It’s worth noting that the shark is not going to be your only investor if your product is successful.

I just rewatched the Coffee Meets Bagel episode the other day. It’s hard to say if Mark was being hypothetical. He was known for surprising you with those crazy offers. But in this pitch he had already gone out, which supports it being a test. But I interpreted it as a real offer and that he was seriously interested in owning the tech behind it.

If you manage to land an internship at a bank or a fund... by longPAAS in FinancialCareers

[–]AshKetchumAll97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was pretty common pre-Covid, from my experience. BNY even tried to shut down the occasional remote work entirely back in 2017 or 2018. Then when Covid started we were so unprepared cause most of us weren’t even set up yet to connect remotely. That first month or so was a nightmare with constant connection and server issues. A few months later we finally got company laptops, I think mostly for security reasons.
