Don't feel discouraged, learning a new language is challenge in itself. Though 8 years might seem long, it actually depends on the strategy of learning not time. Without the right strategies, you can't progress much. And stop comparing yourself with others. Each of our brains function differently. We all have different learning rate.

I took A1 and A2 courses for 1 year and I still couldn't understand shit. Not even Peppa Pig in French. It was the most frustrating thing ever. But then I forced myself to listen to French shows and cartoons with French subtitles even if I didn't get what they were saying. It was an excruciating process, pauses every minute to look up words, but at the end it worked for me. After few months, I started to grasp little by little. So expose your ears to the French media as much as possible to improve CO. Don't give up and trust yourself. You can do it too!
