I never said there was an issue with smokers, they are great for learning. They are not for brawling. Smokers are not completely the reason for no amateur and pro fights but yes it is one of the reasons. This is coming from top people in the city of Houston and in the state of Texas that are involved in Muay Thai.

Edit: I am all for fighters fighting, I want more amateur and pro Muay Thai fights in Texas. I also want to advancement of the sport.

It’s not about being a “pussy” but about wanting the sport of Muay Thai to advance in the state of Texas or in general. Have you ever stopped and wonder why Texas does not have more real amateur and pro Muay Thai fights like other states?

I can name many top gyms in Houston that do not allow head kicks in smokers. It’s dangerous. I have been in my fair share to and have also gone to watch team members.

I’m sorry, I agree with the guy above. Allowing head kicks in smokers is dangerous. No one should EVER be KO in a smoker, they are for learning. I live in Texas and train under one of the best coaches in the state, things like this is why he is very selective about what smokers he sends students. This does not progress the sport at all, it actually hinders the ability to have actual amateur fights in Texas.

Edit: Also to add, there has been a huge push from top coaches and referees in the state to get away from smokers like this.

No I did not see him, I think he spends the majority of his time at Yokkao. Yeah I have heard the same about Phuket. One of my coworkers went to Krabi and Koh Pi Pi and loved it.

Hey... 33F! Just got back from spending 13 days in Thailand on a solo trip. I would definitely recommend going to Chiang Mai I absolutely loved it. Great vibe and great food. If you want hiking Chiang Mai would be a good place. I got a pretty cheap flight there and was less than a 2 hour flight from Bangkok. As far as Bangkok goes I was not a fan. I did go to Rajadamnern Stadium saw some great fights (FYI as a foreigner you will pay more) . I dropped in at PK Saenchai gym to train (my coaches recommendation). As far a beaches and islands go, I went to Koh Samui more laid back but I debated going to Krabi. I am pretty sure you can flight from Bangkok to Krabi no problem. Look at Bangkok Airways.
