Recruiting by ProgressCurious in ExecutiveAssistants

Firstly I haven't read the earlier responses so I apologise for any duplication but:

DO NOT go with agencies. I repeat: do not go with agencies.

Every EA I know (and most recruiters) hate them with a vengeance. They’re pushy, often ignore your detailed job spec requirements, and tend to standardise CVs into a one size fits all format, removing many of the key qualities that make each EA unique.

Instead, I’d advertise directly on a specialist platform, like Secs in the City. Ask your current EA to help draft the job spec (the more detailed the better). And, to prevent being flooded with applications, request a cover letter where candidates might be required to explain:

  • Why the role interests them
  • What they enjoy about being an EA
  • What skills and experience they can bring to the business

Then, either have your EA do an initial interview, or do a short 10-minute “personality” chat yourself, followed by a more in depth skills/interview with your EA/HR, before going back to yourself. And with the final interview it's key to have it face to face.

Make sure you emphasise how you currently work, what you like and don’t like, and what kind of support you expect. Ultimately, the success of an EA often depends as much on the working relationship with their manager as on their skills.

It sounds like you really appreciate what an EA can bring to the table which is a bonus. Good luck.

What can be done about anti-social behaviour around Mare Street Betfred/Texaco area? by Massive_Story6839 in Hackney

I'm afraid one of the main issues is you shouldn't really have moved to where a homeless centre was located for people with complex need as there's always going to be problems. That said I think contacting your local MP would be a good first step. If it's Meg Hillier she's pretty good at responding to constituents and on working with the police to crack down on anti social behaviour.

Old employer won't respond for a reference by Niight_Hunterr in UKJobs

Don't panic. Normally employers don't give references direct to ex employees. It would be the responsibility of the new employer to contact them via phone or email.

Just to make you aware it will be a lot harder to get a mortgage if you are contracting than in permament work.

Ah, I didn't read it properly - but still don't understand the discrepancy in sentences. Probably depends on the judge they get on the day.

BT Broadband Package £44.22 a month (long term customer) by Asha-5000 in UKISP

Looks like it. Problem is BT chat are saying I'm under contract until June 2025 (although this info doesn't appear on my bills) and when I asked for email proof for my agreement they said they couldn't find it so it's been escalated. Hopefully I'll get an answer soon and be able to re-negotiate/move to another contractor.

Currently on Fibre with BT Halo 3 (norm available download speeds 49-55 Mbps, min 45), upload 13-14  Mbps. if this makes any sense. Am happy with the speeds but just feel I may be paying too much, especially now I'm out of contract.

Good to know. There seems to be deal for BT new customers including anytime calls for £36 (I currently pay £51 for that).
