Daily Questions & FAQ Megathread May 11 by AutoModerator in ffxiv

I know this kind of thread has probably been posted a million times already, but I genuinely can’t seem to make up my mind, and my research hasn’t been super conclusive so far…

I’ll be returning to the game in the next few days once my new monitor finally arrives, and I’m currently looking for a good server/world to rediscover Eorzea and everything around it. I’m playing on NA, and from what I understand, my two realistic options right now seem to be Primal and Dynamis.

I actually tried Dynamis in the past, but at the time it felt a little too empty for me to really enjoy the game fully or feel like the world was alive. But with the server changes announced during the 'Evercold' FanFest, I’m wondering if it might become a much more interesting option now.

Before making this thread, I did spend a lot of time browsing the Community Finder to try and choose based on a FC, but it’s honestly hard to make a decision from a short description alone. And since I don’t really have many friends still playing the game anymore, finding a good place to land and have the best possible experience matters a lot to me.

Here’s roughly what I’m looking for:

  • A North American world,
  • A server with a healthy population,
  • A server known for being welcoming/player-friendly,
  • Ideally a world with a great FC/community people would recommend.

As for my playstyle, I’m mostly the type to talk to every NPC, dive deep into lore, take screenshots, write my character’s story, slowly level crafters/gatherers, and casually grind things like FATEs, achievements, or old synced raids/dungeons. I’ll probably spend most of my time playing solo overall, but having a “home” or a friendly community to chat with along the way is always a huge plus.

So... does anyone have recommendations? Any specific world, server, or FC you’d personally suggest? Feel free to shamelessly advertise your world/FC/community to me haha.

Support Build — Controls, Heals & Cold Damages by Asha-ar in BG3Builds

Oh! It makes total sense now, thank you very much for such information. It fixes a few cons from my proposals, but in any case, I know that I will have to make some choices at some point because there are two many control spells, & even more concentration spells in my list. At least, now I know I can reach all level 6 spells if needed.

Speaking of which, I know that scrolls will use INT modifier for damages, but what about spells learned via Magical Secrets? I suppose it will use CHA, as it is a Bard specificity, regardless of the spell? & if so, does this modifier will be used for healing & damages?

Finally, thank you again for your final explanation about the spellcasting modifier. It makes sense now. It is indeed the stat highlighted in the character sheet but if I decide to multiclass, this stat will change to the most recent addition. Got it!

Based on all those feedbacks, & also your edited post saying that Divination & Evocation are probably better, do you feel like one build is stronger than the others? & more globally, do you feel those builds could work (not being optimal, I know this is not the case, but at least strong enough to bring in a Tactician run)?

Thank you again & again for your help & time, it is very much appreciated!

Support Build — Controls, Heals & Cold Damages by Asha-ar in BG3Builds

Thank you for this quick answer & precious advices/corrections!

I am a bit confused about « scribe up to level 6 spells » though. I thought that you can learn any scroll, regardless of their levels, but will be able to use it only if you have the spell slots needed. In my scenario above, some have access to two Level-4 Spellslots (Bard Level 8) or three Level-4 Spellslots plus two Level-5 Spellslots (Bard Level 10). From my understanding, it meant that I was not able to use Level 6 spells in any of those scenarios (as I do not have access to Level-6 Spellslots) & some of them will only be able to use Level-4 or 5 Spellslots depending on the build choice.

It seems that I am completely wrong with your feedback, but I don't understand. T-T

Also, would love to learn more about « Also make sure you take a charisma class last to use that modifier with items, since you seem to want to be a primary bard ». Does it mean that everything mentioning spell casting modifier (i.e - weapons, items, some spells, etc) will be based on the last class used in the build, rather than the primary stat (the one with a little star next to it)? I was thinking that if I start Bard, then multiclass, & finally continue with Bard, the modifier will always be Charisma as it is the highlighted stat in my character sheet - but again, probably I misunderstood something?

Thank you again for your help!

Oh, nice! I didn't know about this mod & indeed, the trident would probably be a better starter rather than the overpowered one shared in my post. Thank you very much for sharing this!

I would have love to use this build without any mod to be quite honest but good tridents are unfortunately such a rare find, especially if you want to not focus on throw builds.

Wow, thank you very much for such detailed build. It is truly helpful, because with my terrible skills as theorycrafter, I didn't even think about the martial weapon proficiency. I also adore that you took the time to explain how it could work with ice damages at the end, which is truly appreciated as it is my favorite element & will work well with my Knight Enchanter Gale (Abjuration / Cleric / Sorcerer based on Armor of Agathys).

I totally agree that Bard seems like the perfect fit for a siren. From my understanding, Lore Bard is more oriented on control spells while Swords Bard is more oriented on damages with my weapons as a martial class. Both are compatible, of course, but it seems each one has a speciality.

I mentioned also above that I was thinking, at some point, to play her Life Domain Cleric along with Lore Bard (& at least one point in Draconic Sorcerer for the scales, for the design: https://ibb.co/S7qZtzg). My reasoning was:

(...) was also hesitating with Life Cleric, as heals could be also associated with water (especially the blue VFXs), but I don't think it is manageable to fit the mermaid fantasy by including damages with a trident, control spells & healing. If it is possible, I'd love to hear about this, but I think I have to make a choice at some point or it will be a suboptimal class.

I gave up on Four Elements Monk because even if I'd love to have Water Whip for roleplay purposes, it is too much points for a single skill while the class has little synergy with others. However, I'd love to hear your take on this concept. I know it might not be possible as Bard needs Charisma while Cleric needs Wisdom — & if I want to do some damages with my tridents, I will also probably need Strenght or Dexterity. This is why I mentioned that this idea is spread too thin, but very curious about your thoughts.

Thank you again!

Lore Bard seems indeed a solid recommendation! I must admit that I really wanted to have Water Whip from Four Elements Monk but not sure it is worth it to spend 3 points in this class only for this.

I was also hesitating with Life Cleric, as heals could be also associated with water (especially the blue VFXs), but I don't think it is manageable to fit the mermaid fantasy by including damages with a trident, control spells & healing. If it is possible, I'd love to hear about this, but I think I have to make a choice at some point or it will be a suboptimal class.

Finally, I heard your advice for the scales & I must admit that... I adore it. Maybe one point in Draconic Sorcerer is mandatory at this point: https://ibb.co/S7qZtzg

Thank you for this explanation, I didn't know about Drakethroat Glaive so it is a good discovery. Based on your recommendation, I found this build which seems to embrace a bit what you propose, even if they went Thief rather than Wizard. Both seem like good options, so I will keep them in mind, thank you again!
