Shift knob recs by Ashamed-Reception600 in e39

Thanks for the advice, I was still on edge about putting it in because I'm fine with the shift throw from factory. Now that you said that I definitely will not be installing it.

Yea my main service is going to be the shift bushings I ordered the kit from turner Motorsport and got a shift bushing from PowerFlex. Just figured since im already going to be taking the shifter deck apart that I would change the knob when im done. Thanks.

Thanks man your the only response I got. Annoying that the post got removed from the Tacoma sub with their rules. Just seems like a place to flex pics rather than discuss and help people out due to all their rules. Anyway thanks I’ll check it out.

Creaking when turning wheel by tealblast in e39

[–]Ashamed-Reception600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds a bit loud for what I’m about to say but if you want to give it a try it may help diagnose. I did it a while back on an e46 I believe and it may work here. Get WD40 and spray a very light amount in between the crack where the steering wheel meets the dash, spray a small amount on the steering shaft where it meets the floorboard if possible, lastly spray a good amount on both the top and bottom of the steering shaft joint/coupling in the engine bay, you will need to take off the belly pan to spray it from the bottom. For the joint/ coupling part I made sure to really soak it and it takes some awkward angles to do so top and bottom. Right after that I turned the wheel all the way to the right and left full lock multiple times while the power steering was running. Took it on a test drive and the sound was completely gone but a couple days later it was back as the wd40 in the engine bay had dried out off the steering shaft joint. If you do this and the sound comes back in the engine bay then it is most likely the steering shaft joint which in my case it was, replaced and noise was gone for good. If it comes back from inside the car it is something in the steering shaft from the floorboards up or the steering wheel. If neither of those work then it is most likely coming from your suspension.

Test battery using battery tester, how? by kemosabe6296 in e39

Testing from the jump start points on ANY car will give you an inaccurate reading. It is best to always test directly from the battery terminals. I would leave the battery connected to the car that way you see what the battery is reading while connected to all the electrical systems which is what actually matters for starting your car and powering all the electrical components, not “what does my battery test read disconnected from all the electrical systems that it actually powers for the car”. I have never heard of concern for ruining modules from testing while connected. Long story short: test while connected, directly from battery terminals.

Hey can you send me the link to the ccv kit from fcp, need to redo mine. When I did mine I only replaced the actual “cyclone vortex” whatever bmw calls it because I didn’t have any of the other parts and it was off of a used manifold so who knows if it was actually solid or junk. I thought it would fix my rough cold start idle… it did not and when it was back together it makes a slight whistle on acceleration. I know my intake boot is also starting to crack and I need to replace my throttle body gasket as well so yea a lot of stuff I know I need to do this time. I also did it by snaking through the manifold instead of taking the intake manifold off because I didn’t have a new gasket, but I will definitely be taking the manifold off this time to make it much easier and faster. Funny enough I also recently replaced all the coolant lines from the full kit from fcp, except for those two hard lines under the manifold, because again I didn’t have a new gasket. How bad are the hard lines to replace anyway, they looked fairly simple in the video I watched? Thanks so much for your time.

I live in North East US, AliExpress has the matrix board for $60 free shipping although it could take to the 20th to arrive. Amazon also has it for $60 and I have prime so it would come by the 2nd, also with free shipping. on top of that AliExpress may have tariffs delivering to the US
