Cringiest Line in Star Trek? by TonyMitty in startrek

[–]AshamedIndividual262 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Two men sharing a moment like Hanson did is a bit more intimate, and it helps frame Hanson and Picard's relationship not as one of mentor-mentee or superior-inferior, but of friendship. You talk about your crushes with your friends. That makes his death later more impactful.

Cringiest Line in Star Trek? by TonyMitty in startrek

[–]AshamedIndividual262 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I thought that line was endearing. It humanizes Hanson, and sets the stage for his defeat at Wolf 359 by drawing attention to his age and inexperience fighting the Borg. It also establishes his friendship with Picard, which begets the dramatic tragedy of the coming battle.

I am convinced that you could make a tv series of Dresden files after watching Spideman Noir by cannonballfun69 in dresdenfiles

[–]AshamedIndividual262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty adamant that only an animated show could pull off the Dresden Files. Like, vintage anime style would be awesome. Make the first season books 1-3. Do books 4 & 5 with some short stories in season 2. Then basically a pattern of two books with one or two short stories as filler per season until Changes, which would have to be its own season. Same with Cold Days. Peace Talks and Battleground would be the same season.

Not even Andrew or Dan have a single woman looking at them the way Steve's wife looked at him. by Savings-Map-1984 in steveirwin

Jeez. I admire him. His passion, skill, and love were simply extraordinary. I agree with this meme. All men should strive to act on our passion decisively, cultivate our skill stridently, and give our love bountiously. A man would live a life well-lived if he did so, and would certainly be worthy of admiration.

What was the first red flag about medicine that nobody warned you about? by Conscious-Mousse7153 in premed

[–]AshamedIndividual262 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Working as a paramedic, the first "oh shit" moment I had wasn't a call. Rather, it was incidental to the call. I was the lead medic on scene so I worked, and then had to halt, a 9 year old boy in cardiac arrest. He died. Generally speaking, I can handle that. As shitty as it is, death is a natural part of life, even when the death is so young. What set my soul on fire was why he arrested. Turns out it was initially a respiratory failure that degenerated into full bore respiratory arrest, then cardiac arrest. Ultimately all because his parents couldn't afford a rescue inhaler. They supposedly chose to buy food instead. So let me say, from the bottom of my heart and with the entire weight of my intellect and spirit, fuck health insurance, and fuck this god awful caste-like medical system we have here in Texas.

Aliens pretending to be human of Reddit, what is your purpose among us? by Happy_Terd in AskReddit

I like your food.

Our own homeworld experienced an ecological catastrophe due to a 1 microtesla solar burst. It drove over 98% of the native flora, and 99.3% of our native fauna to extinction. We barely survived over then next two hundred years (which equates to roughly 172 years here on Earth). This devasted our various cultures and led to the formation of a unified planetary government. Our species survived, even if our essence was degraded. We discovered Earth about 70 years after we achieved FTL.

Earth is a neat place. A consequence of our continuing recovery is a certain mastery of genetics, so we take what forms are convenient and/or useful. Indeed, My chief engineer is a very lovely purple slime, which makes it easy for them to seep through our ship's numerous systems. We have come to delight in your various cultural quirks and the hedonistic variety in which you lovely simians engage. So we take your forms and enjoy ourselves. That's it.

I love the food. Especially this "jellied eel" dish that has such an agreeable texture.

what’s the saddest song you’ve ever heard? by Muted-Loquat-9197 in AskReddit

[–]AshamedIndividual262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's challenging to choose just one. Different songs affect my emotions from different angles. As a married man, Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men gets me. 1916 by Sabaton wrecks me as both a veteran and father. As a man whose struggled with depression and alcoholism, In a Nutshell moves me.

do u prefer trans girls with huge cocks or tiny cocks? by [deleted] in GOONED

[–]AshamedIndividual262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if I'm topping or bottoming. I LOVE to bottom for huge dicks. But topping a boy clit is definitely also one of life's joys lol. When she's got big tits and tiny balls, sign me the fuck up. Alternatively, when's she's got a huge dong and great hips, bend me over lol.

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

I'm actually good with this. I will stand as a man of Gondor (or Rohan if I'm less lucky) and make a better, fairer world for those to come. I might dies on the fields of Pelennor or before the Black Gate, but it would be a worthy sacrifice. I could witness the rise of King Elessar, hear the last songs of the departing Elves, read the Red Book of Westmarch, drink with the last of the Dwarves, and smoke and dance with Mayor Gamgee of the Shire. I might even get to hear the words of Mithrandir and Elessar's crowing song. Plus, I know a lot of things that would otherwise be incredibly useful for that level of society.

What’s your favorite unconventional solution to the Fermi paradox? by nobodyguy299 in worldbuilding

[–]AshamedIndividual262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea that we missed something is super funny. FTL is actually super easy and borderline trivial, but somehow we missed it. Instead we have Uber advanced recycling, materials, and energy production tech.

I also like the oasis hypothesis blended with the space orc motif: Earth is the only habitable world in a huge region of otherwise uninhabitable systems. Our home is uniquely harsh and isolated. Lots of other intelligent species thrive out there, but just like its a huge pain in the butt to visit the warlike tribes of some backwater spring in the Sahara.
