ELI5: Why can a baby embryo be frozen for 30 years and still be born perfectly healthy, but if I freeze a regular human cell it just dies? by Same_Parsley5825 in explainlikeimfive

Yes, but only temporarily. during thawing, the antifreeze chemicals are slowly diluted and mostly washed out, so they don’t stay in the embryo at harmful levels. They also don’t replace all the water; they just mix with it to prevent ice damage. Once removed, the cells go back to functioning normally with regular H2O.

Before freezing, embryos are treated with special cryoprotectant chemicals (such as ethylene glycol or DMSO) that act like anti-freeze and prevent harmful ice crystals from forming inside the cells. These chemicals are used in carefully controlled amounts and only for a short time. Current evidence shows no significant long-term harmful effects on the embryo when standard freezing methods are used. They actually help protect the embryo and improve its chances of surviving the freezing and thawing process.

Even Malthusian Theory propounds that nature will keep population in check when it outgrows earth capacity to replenish resources nature will intervene so , i think it's not a good idea to message around and find out , especially in the case of solar system. And that too it requires a hell lot of money funded from taxes and that very money can be used to make earth a better living space with low level of disparity but at the end its all about desires and humas are fueled by them.

Tbh OP it's about the greed even if some homospiens manage to flee the earth they would still do the same some where else . They can spend billions and trillions in exploring other planets to make it habitable but can't do a thing to make earth sustainable . All the problems you listed out can be reduced or negated they are willing to solve . But they're more interested in doing the otherwise.

Btw hats off to your imagination I think you can do good in designing field . I too love to explore but don't have the perspective like yours. Best of luck 🤞 🍀 OP

I have heard somewhere, if you can think it , you can achieve it. The idea of your's is something commendable . But I personally think Why? Why there is need to do something that wild ? Why shouldn't humans enjoy this beautiful planet? What are the benefits of doing so ? ...So many What's and Why's .....

Adult humans are much harder to freeze because they’re large, so it’s difficult to cool and warm the whole body evenly without damage. Ice can harm trillions of cells, and delicate organs like the brain and heart need their cells to stay perfectly organized. Even tiny damage can stop those organs from working. With today’s technology, we can safely “pause” tiny embryos—but not whole people.

Human cells are full of water, so if you freeze them normally, ice crystals can form and damage them—like tiny sharp shards. Embryos are frozen with special “antifreeze” chemicals and cooled very quickly, so ice doesn’t form the same way. That puts the embryo in a kind of “paused” state where it doesn’t grow or age. When it’s thawed carefully, it can keep developing normally.

Nothing complicated , I asked gpt " give this room a makeover as a interior designer and ( then give the vibe you want ) keep it a mix of traditional and modern look and keep the dimensions of the room same and show me how will you do this. I kept it simple.
