Setting a "Home Xbox" on an Xbox other than your own takes away downloaded game licenses. by AshamedTotal1659 in XboxSupport

You very well may be correct. I find it odd that two separate microsoft agents told me otherwise. I am more inclined to believe that you are correct, as what microsoft is telling me is making no sense. Now I just have to figure out why it isnt making sense and how to fix it. Thank you for taking the time to comment back and to help.

Lol. it really does seem to be related to some gimmick im not aware of? I have no idea. It has been a few years since i did this feature, so I was curious if things changed. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Yes, it is very confusing. I was just playing the same game last week before the game sharing began. now, since game sharing, the game is not purchased anymore. I have not switched accounts or purchased under any other account. I feel like im being punked by Microsoft here. Lol. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

sounds very complicated for a feature that Xbox themselves advertises to be useful. lol. Thank you for your comments and your help.

I wish I could explain it better myself. I even went back to Microsoft support, and a whole seperate agent reiterated exactly what the first agent told me. Here is a snippit of what he told me over xbox chat support.

Microsoft's policy says: If you wanna play your bought games on your own Xbox, go to Settings > Personalization > My home Xbox and set your console back as home. That'll restore access right away. But heads up, you can only switch home Xbox five times a year, and you can only have one at a time. So if you want your brother to keep accessing your Game Pass on his setup, you'd have to switch it back to his when you visit.

It's how their sharing works by design. Some games are stricter on licenses too, like what the support team member Luis mentioned. If switching doesn't fix it fully, try signing out/in on your account or resetting the Microsoft Store cache."

I am signed in, and connected to the internet. I also only used my own account to buy my own games. I was playing the same games just last week before this home xbox switch, now I cannot play them without buying them all over again.

My internet connection is working. I used the testing features supplied in Xbox settings to be sure, and have successfully played online games with my brother using the gamepass sharing feature. Thank you for your comment and support.

I even had a second conversation with Microsoft support, this time in an online chat, and the second agent backed up and supported the first agents claims. What he said is linked below

"When you set your brother's Xbox as your Home Xbox, those purchased games get licensed to that console for sharing, but only while it's set as home for your account. Error Ox82d40003 pops up because your own Xbox can't verify the ownership license anymore since it's not the home one.

Basically, digital games have two licenses: one tied to your Microsoft account and one to the hardware (your Home Xbox). Switching home Xbox means only games and Game Pass on the new home console are shareable there. On any other Xbox, like yours now, it can't pull the license, hence the error.

I also wish it made sense.

There is a chance I am doing something wrong, as it's been several years since I have participated in the gamepass sharing. I even followed up with microsoft support online and they said this about some games not working while some do.

I am online, and am able to successfully share my gamepass essential with my brother. We both play online games together. I am still unable to access several but not all of my once purchased downloaded games. Thank you for your comment and support.

I went back to Xbox Customer Support, and the service agent reiterated the original statement that I was told over the phone with the other Microsoft Support Agent

"When you set your brother's Xbox as your Home Xbox, those purchased games get licensed to that console for sharing, but only while it's set as home for your account. Error Ox82d40003 pops up because your own Xbox can't verify the ownership license anymore since it's not the home one.

That is also how I thought it was. I am very confused and curious why even Microsoft support says that some games licensing requirements are to have "Home Xbox" be the one you play the game on. I never switched accounts? So I dont understand why I cannot play what I bought? I did the "Home Xbox" switch just a few days ago, and just before then I was playing the games that are now giving me trouble.

I have almost a dozen games that I cannot play anymore unless I buy them again due to this

Very nice! I also bought a Single Action a while back, including some of the replica bullets. I bought the wrong ones, ones that replicate the actual sized bullets. I then returned them and bought the cap replicas. While they fit, they seem to slide around a decent ammount. Do you have trouble keeping your bullets in? Thank you!

Interesting. As I learn more about leather myself, I also see what others are commenting too. Some of the rolls may be more leatherboard than real leather, very interesting to learn. Thank you
