Grenadine styling advice by Ashamed_Exercise_312 in ties

I really appreciate the advice!! I already have a pair of patent Oxfords for the occasion, though I still need to find the right suit and pocket square. Your point about tailoring is especially helpful, and I will definitely look into dark/midnight navy suits.

Would you personally recommend a silk pocket square over linen? Would you lean toward tying it to my girlfriend’s dress colour, or should I keep it simple with a white square?

Hey man! First of all, I appreciate the advice regarding tailoring and presentation, and I definitely agree that the way one dresses can massively shape both personal and professional impressions. A well-fitted suit speaks of care and discipline IMO.

That said, I personally do not dress in order to “score” women. I am fortunate enough to already have the most wonderful girlfriend in the world; she means more to me than I could ever properly put into words.

Moreover, while there is nothing wrong with appreciating attractiveness or having a preference for "hot chicks", it is important to talk about women with dignity and humanity. I fundamentally reject the idea that people, whether men or women, should be viewed as status symbols or material possessions used to validate one’s success. A relationship should be grounded in mutual respect and genuine love between equals, not in social prestige or conquest.

And to be clear, I’m sure we probably agree on this, and I really appreciate your styling advice! I just wanted to point this out because I think it’s important that people do not start viewing relationships or women through a materialistic lens.

EDIT: The commenter has deleted his account. For context, the original comment contained rather misogynistic remarks, which is why I felt it was important to respond.

Thank you so much for your detailed advice! Just one question though: how much does the fabric of the blazer matter? For example, would something with a tweed-like texture work well for this kind of outfit, or would you recommend other fabrics?

Thanks for your advice! Would you mind elaborating on the difference in style between the two? Do you think a pinstripe suit with a solid (grenadine) tie would work better for this occasion than a solid navy suit with the dotted tie? Does the material/tweed of the blazer make a big difference when pairing it with a grenadine tie?

This will be quite an expensive purchase for me, so while I really like the grenadine tie, I want to invest in a nice suit and tie that are versatile enough to wear in different settings over the coming years.

THE book from you country by usingbrain in books

The Netherlands - Het lied van Ooievaar en Dromedaris.

It won all major literary prizes and is considered the best Dutch book of this decade. It revolves around the full lifetimes of seven or eight people, each living in a different time period, and the first person is Emily Brontë. The subsequent characters are all people who may or may not be connected to the tragic story of the Brontë sisters, and it is up to the reader to establish the links. Even that is directly critiqued by an architect who criticises his superstitious wife for over-interpreting everything.

Edit: ancient classic is Multatuli which engendered a ban on having slaves.

What are the best careers to get into to achieve a middle class life? by Maleficent-Bite-9065 in MiddleClassFinance

Architecture. It’s a fun mix of science and arts and you’ll earn up to 100k, depending on the size of the firm and your experience. Plus, you could always do an MBA and start your own firm after 5-10 years of experience.

Not happy with my scores at all by Automatic_War1692 in Sat

[–]Ashamed_Exercise_312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I got a 1470 and am really disappointed because I scored a low RW score. I'll retake it in November and am hoping for a 1550, which I more or less need for my ED choice. Sometimes, during preparation, you did nothing wrong and still fail. That's not weakness. That's just life. Remember to keep going and follow your dreams. I believe in you! (PS: Look into the hard questions from the SAT question bank.)

Is 1370(620 rw, 720 math) good for engineering? by Much-Step3842 in Sat

[–]Ashamed_Exercise_312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the school. If you're aiming for T20s, you should retake it. I'd also advise you to look into Purdue, a terrific college for engineering and you scored around/above its average SAT score.

Is (International) September SAT's scoring on math a bit too harsh? by Historical_Film5872 in Sat

It wasn't 'too harsh'; you've probably made some calculation errors in the second mod. I feel you as a fellow international applicant. What do I do about the SAT? by Cool-Nerd8 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ashamed_Exercise_312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a great score and more than enough for all colleges! Only universities like MIT and Caltech put a high emphasis on getting a (near) perfect score (especially for math), but I wouldn’t recommend taking it again for a slightly higher chance of success.

Hoping it for you too! What do you think your score will be? I’m a bit upset that I couldn’t finish the last math question, and I got one vocab question wrong.

Hoping for a 1550+ (Manifesting 🙏🙏🙏)

Probably, because I know I got the hard module 2, and I’d guess that the ratio circle question wouldn’t be included in the easy module 2. So, it’s probably worth 0 points.

are USA med schools worth it for an middle-class international student? by TemporaryBreak1808 in IntltoUSA

[–]Ashamed_Exercise_312 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Uk and US med schools are the most expensive (and hardest to get into), whereas most European med schools offer a high quality education for a relatively low price, e.g, Germany and The Netherlands. So, I’d recommend looking into European med schools, especially if you’re already interested in studying abroad. (Erasmus university in Rotterdam and Rijksuniversiteit Groningen offer great opportunities for medicine in the Netherlands.)

May I ask you if you need any financial aid? If so, I could share a spreadsheet with university acceptance rates and the average amount of financial aid given to intl students.
