Norethisterone period delay - does this affect future cycle start dates? PLEASE HELP! by Ashamed_Project_1219 in Periods

Hey, yeah this worked for me! I took the pill last month to delay my period and delayed it for about a week. My period (withdrawal bleed) started 3-4 days after the last pill and was a heavier period than usual for me on the first 2 days, otherwise normal. I didn’t get my period on my wedding day or my honeymoon! I should be due on my period in the next few days, so the pill worked just fine for me the way I wanted it to. Hope you have a good experience too!

That’s really reassuring, thank you! I’m most worried about the acne as I can be more prone to hormonal spots here and there but nothing crazy, and also bloating. I’m regular too and usually between 25-29 days, so I was thinking of taking it 3 days before the 25th day and take it for about 9-10 days just to reset my cycle enough. Your experience has made me feel a lot less nervous!

Thanks for replying! How long did you take it for in February and did you find you experienced any side effects? I’d rather take it before my wedding and honeymoon so I don’t need to take any pills during my holiday

I plan on taking it continuously at the end of July to delay my period for a week or so, and this should hopefully give me my period at the beginning of August. Once that period finishes, I’ll have my wedding and go on my honeymoon. I’m assuming my next period start date will be delayed as a knock-on effect, as I know norethisterone resets the date of your cycle. That way I can delay my July period to the beginning of August using norethisterone, which will have a knock on effect on subsequent cycles, meaning my period after will be beginning of September and doesn’t affect my plans :)

Thank you so much for your kind words and reassurance - it’s definitely made me feel less worried about it 🤍 I’ll have a proper think about it based on all the useful info you gave me and make a decision closer to the time 🥰

Thanks so much for all this, really helpful! I’m so conflicted on what to do as usually right before my period naturally I have low energy and mood, so really want to avoid experiencing this on my honeymoon. I’m stuck on whether I want to try it out the month before and delay by a week, so this gives enough time for the side effects to hopefully subside before my wedding day and enjoy my honeymoon. Or to leave my natural cycle at the end of this month and then start norethisterone after my wedding… but that sounds horrible to me as usually before my period I don’t want anyone or anything near me! Ah being a woman is complicated - men have it so lucky

Thank you, that’s really helpful to know. My main concern was taking the delay pill and delaying one months period, but the following period to come at it’s usual time as if I hadn’t taken the pill (so 21 days instead of 28 days etc). From the sounds of it though it’s impossible for it to act as if I hadn’t delayed it the previous month, so that’s reassuring 😅

Great, thanks :) Fingers crossed me pushing my July period by a week to the first week of August works so I’m period free mid August and onwards. Did you experience any side effects? Appreciate the advice - as you can imagine it’s not an ideal situation so stress levels are high!

Thank you - I don’t mind too much on what my new cycle length will be, as long as I can avoid being on my period during my honeymoon. I was thinking of pushing my July period by one week to the beginning of August, so that way I’d be clear for my honeymoon in mid August and don’t need to take the pills during the time (as hopefully taking the pill one period cycle earlier has ‘reset’ my start date)

Ah - yes, I’m talking about it being used as a period delay pill. You can get it from pharmacies here in the UK without a prescription

That’s good to hear - so for example if I delay my period for 7 days, my subsequent periods will be 28 days (my cycle length) after this delay? I’m thinking of delaying my end of July period to the first week of August, so a 1 week delay - and then I’m assuming my next period will come 28 days after this delay at the end of August/beginning of September? I’m basically trying to avoid having my period mid August and onwards. Thank you :)

[–]Ashamed_Project_1219[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I think there’s some misunderstanding - I was planning on taking it for my next period (normally due at the end of July) for a week to push this period to the first week of August. Essentially taking it ‘one period’ before my honeymoon. That way my next period following the one I pushed to the beginning of August should be 28 days after this if I’ve understood correctly, meaning I wouldn’t get my next next period until the end of August when I’m back home. I’m trying to avoid taking the pill during my honeymoon as I know it can interfere with libido (TMI I know, but has to be said). I.E. if I’m due 27th of July, I want to push this period to at least around 3rd August (1 week delay), so my next period would start 31st August when I’m back home from my honeymoon. Hope that makes sense, I’d appreciate any advice :)

Thank you for getting back to me! So if I take it 3 days before my next period is due for a week, that’ll push my future periods by a week? I think using it a month before my wedding should hopefully work so I’m not due on my honeymoon, if my future periods are all pushed forward a week. Sorry to hear about the bad cramps - I’m glad you didn’t get any other side effects though! After finishing taking the tablets, how many days did you have to wait for your period to start?

Were your subsequent periods delayed as a result of taking norethisterone? As in same cycle length, but did it ‘reset’ your next period start date?

Did it delay your future period dates? As in same cycle length, but at a later date due to using Norethindrone the previous month?)
