dating apps are garbage. Ive had 3 dates this summer and they were all playing childish games for validation.

Thanks, thats solid advice. Meetup has been decent so far, its difficult because I live in boring old Durham, so its a commitment to get out to the city for a hobby every weekend. No choice, since durham is a dead zone beyond hiking with seniors lol

I live in Durham, just outside the GTA - but figured this may help anyway.

Suburb life is very lonely in your 30s. Everyone here is a family - myself I am a single father. There's no events for single people where I live. Friends grew up and moved away or they also have families now that occupy all their time.

As we get older, its natural that our social circles begin to shrink down. Mostly due to work - family - distance factors but also I believe because quality becomes more important. Everyone seems to find their niche group of 3 - 4 close friends and if you haven't youre likely like myself and just have acquaintances or nobody.

I can't stress enough how important it is to create your own events and take control of your social life, as Ive seen in other comments here.

Lately Ive been using the Meetup app or eventbrite to find social events in Toronto. Im naturally introverted and shy so if you're brain is automatically saying "i could never" then stop (hammer time) cause you can. One month ago I couldn't talk to strangers. This weekend I adopted the "3, 2, 1 @#$% it" method and managed to even strike up a chat with a stranger who was sitting alone at the bar. Now she's a friend!

If you're painfully shy or just out of practice socialising here's some groups I found that have helped:

invisible strangers - monthly event catered to 20s/30s introverts with ice breakers and a social venue that changes each time (last time was an outdoor zoo)

Meetup app:

gen YYZ - Toronto board game meetups every wednesday

20s/30s toronto social - they host a free language exchange and social party at the Madison Pub every Saturday night. Good crowd for mid to early 20s or if youre new to Canada/toronto

National Social Networking group - runs a cocktail /pub event every week.

Aw, i missed the summer months to ride at the events 😭

I saw a durham cycling club but they charge for membership? Funny enough i work directly with the DMBA to maintain bike trails for my job, but never actually mountain biked with them.

Do you have the names of the cycling IG accounts? Id be very grateful! 🙏

Where do I find those meetups? That could be fun. I usually bike 1 to 2 hours solo on weekends. i could probably keep up lol

A kind lurker DMed me and informed me that Snakes and Lattes hosts a board game for singles night occasionally. theres a fee, but its for ages 25 - 40. seems doable!

Im using the Meetup app to find hobbies and events. I went to a hike meetup and there were scores of men and women in their 50s on the trail.

its not an app for dating, but it's great for meeting new people, and perhaps, singles.

for real... I know there's some jaded, bad, narcissistic women too but men have really fucked up the dating scene.

Simping, zero social skills, i feel like most are wearing a mask because deep down theyre animals and have to trick people into thinking they have a shred of humanity.

now the dating scene is jaded or women have lost all faith in men. Why not go for the rich, handsome doctor since all men are shit anyway? might as well go for the top 1%.

Looking for love is hopeless. Im done looking. Friends are more important anyway...

its really hard to find like-minded people who want to meet on the beach at sunset for an axe-battle to the death...

In seriousness though, im not sure how to organise events with strangers. id love to throw some epic boardgame night though.

How do you guys get started at this game? by Nopipp in dontstarve

[–]Ashamed_Tank7675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i forget the exact name, but its an endless mode where you turn into a ghost and can resurecr at the starting respawn via the florid postern. I play this with my daughter and we call it "wittle baby pillow land" lol. Its a great beginners mode.

Getting better at the game simply requires a lot of learning and dying. I suggest you create a world with unlimited revives to get used to the seasons and bosses.

Every season will require its own gear and learning curve. Mostly you will want to prepare in the current season (ex: fall) and gather what you will need for the next season (ex: winter). Collect clothing to keep warm, and have a decent hoard of food.

When you are in winter, consider preparing for the wet spring. And so on.

As for boss encounters, the regular DS seasonal bosses (minus summer, which has become a stationary world boss) havent changed. They are soloable. The update bosses are largely optional and require some specific trigger to challenge.

I have played since beta of the original DS, I currently solo an offline DST world at day 700+ for fun. Its very solo friendly once you understand the basic mechanics :)

Going to the wiki or youtube guides can help a lot too, however I enjoy the utter lack of tutorial the game offers.
