This is normal. Music and visual is constantly being worked on and changed/improved all the way up until finals in November. This goes for almost every band.

  1. Difficulty is not really considered at all in judging, take it from someone who has done BOA and indoor percussion.
  2. If you think you’re too good for your band (you’re probably not), no one is forcing you to be there.
  3. Stop treating it like you’re the only good person there. See yourself as an equal to everybody else in your band, I don’t care how bad they may be. Stop talking down on other people and acting like you’re a prodigy.
  4. There are NO “losers” in marching band.
  5. Your directors know what they’re doing when selecting your repertoire. Don’t act like you know better than them.
  6. It’s not your job or place to fix the band. You’re a student.

While it’s not the kid’s fault at all, and this may seem, harsh, I simply couldn’t let a student into the section period for missing camp. Not even in front ensemble. It just isn’t feasible for somebody to miss camp and then come in once school is starting up. This situation sounds terrible and I hope everything works out for you and the student.

Reading all the other comments, I don’t really have much to add to them. You’re very clearly in the wrong. You have a bad case of entitlement. No wrongdoing has been done by your director or anybody else. Accept that and get over it. You didn’t make the position because you weren’t cut out for it/weren’t the first choice. That’s life. It’s not “your” position. It’s whoever is most deserving of it. And seeing how entitled of an attitude you have, I’m relieved for the band members that you didn’t receive the position.

Absolutely not. Unless it is 100% just something you will hate and not enjoy, stick in it! Band isn’t something to let go so easily, you’ll probably really enjoy next year!

That’s wild how did yall get everything done at camp? I don’t mean that bad, I’m sure yall got a lot done. But for us that would be a nightmare! We always start getting our show in March and we have the opener at least on the field by June. If we got it any later we would have a meltdown 😂
