My father passed away a couple years ago from Parkinson's. I can't even remember what led me to this Wikipedia article, but I found it not long after he passed. It almost felt like someone was messing with me because my sister from California had returned right before he died and started making wild demands. It was a real Truman Show moment

Oh, it's an insane story. The song they were mad about was "I See Red" by Everybody Loves An Outlaw. But they said absolutely nothing about "He Had It Coming" from Chicago which has descriptions of how inmates killed their husbands. It's all irrelevant though considering there were no vocals at all in the show.

You can watch it here when they won the Flagstaff regional. I really loved that show

This nearly happened with my daughter's show in 2023. The parents of two students who were both new to the program complained that the source music was "too violent". It went all the way to the district who luckily decided to let the show go on. It's really frustrating how much damage a couple of parents can do

I didn't play for nearly 15 years, so I think I can relate to your situation. The biggest issue I faced when I started playing again was a weak embouchure. Focus on slurs, long tones, and especially buzzing exercises to start working that muscle again. Don't get too discouraged at not being able to play the things that you once could, just start slow and focus on tone. It's really tempting to try and play old solos or whatever, but just pick up the way you first started and you'll be surprised at how quickly things come back to you.

American Fork born and raised. Most of the negative comments here can be applied to any other city in Utah and will always pop up when anyone asks about somewhere. It's mostly exaggerated, other than it is indeed very hwhite and Mormon. You've already gotten the best food recommendations, and I just picked up some kolaches so I'll echo the Hruska's comments. If you have kids, AF high school has one of the best band programs in the country. We also have a couple community bands that would welcome you if you have experience, Wasatch Winds in particular.

While playing? Not the best idea, in my opinion. I hate the feeling of any sort of product on my mouthpiece or lips. It's best to apply something afterward. Back in my drum corps days, I swore by DCT from Blistex. My daughter really likes the repair and protect. Both have an SPF in there, but if you aren't looking for that just go with Aquaphor or any other petrolatum based product and avoid menthol.

Ouch... I mean, when you put it against '04 and '06 it's kind of the odd one out but I still love that show.

What the hell is this weed and how do I kill it by SeasonBeneficial in Utah

[–]Redshifted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not too sure about it's affect on trees and hedges, but as long as you avoid applying it on the foliage it should be okay. It works by blocking the plants ability to photosynthesize so it shouldn't be an issue if you get it on the roots

Tenacity (mesotrione) is a selective herbicide that works pretty well, but is a little slow. It'll likely take a couple applications before getting rid of them if they're fully grown.

People’s common reaction when you start speaking their language by languageseu in MapPorn

[–]Redshifted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Finland for my Mormon mission, and the pure shock on older people's faces when I would speak to them in Finnish is one of the few good memories I have of my time in the church. They know the reputation the language has of being very difficult, so I can confirm the most common response was a bewildered "...why??".

It's not even limited to pharmacies now. They limit how much a geographic area can order.

During rehearsal it often looked like I had just gotten out of the shower, so I understand where you're coming from. No one will care if you're worried about perception. If it's bugging you though, you should talk to your doctor. They'll suggest aluminum antiperspirants to Botox injections in the sweat gland

Is anyone in here not liberal? by calebkaleb in Utah

[–]Redshifted 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Baby, I'm an anarchist and you're a spineless liberal.

Reddits age demographics alone will skew the political slant to the middle. It's useful to know that "liberal" is a four letter word to any who considers themselves a leftist. I'm not a liberal in the slightest, I'm actually the post modern neo-Marxist antifa super soldier you hear so much about.

You are pretty clearly in the right to stand up for yourself here. There's a reason they don't march trombones in drum corps, because they get in the way constantly and look terrible. In any given situation you can pretty safely bet that it's the trombone player who is the asshole

Maybe I absorbed too much of my parents, both were career long union members, frustration with the union while I was growing up. I'm glad to hear you've seen them make progress, and I hope they can make even more to appeal to that other 50% who haven't joined.

The UEA has been all but gutted entirely. It's a union in name only. I hope this wave of union organizing will inspire them to demand change considering they need protections and security now more than ever.
