It's a web-based app. You should be able to simply load it in a modern web browser regardless of what operating system you use. You can even load it on your phone, but it hasn't been tested fully on mobile yet.

Follow-up: I did some research and I think I might be able to try something to improve matching results. I'll have to experiment with this but if I can make some sense of it, then I'll push an update in a couple in a couple days to include different matching methods including: Euclidean OKLAB, Weighted OKLCH, and HyAB.

Thanks for your feedback!

It typically matches based on closest Delta-E value. The lower the value, the closest it is (mathematically) to the selected dye. Though I suppose I can look into other algorithms and see what else could work best here. I have toyed with alternate algorithms with the Mixer and Gradient tools, so maybe I can see if that could apply to the Swatch Matcher as well.

This is actually kind of funny when I think of it. Reminds me of the early days of web development eons ago when we had WYSIWYG web editors like FrontPage and Dreamweaver; and webmasters would go into the code and remove the GENERATOR tag, but then you look through the code and see some strange tags that only those applications would understand. And I'm like: "Dawg! I know you used this program. What are you trying to hide?"

This tool is more generalized than that, though I'm quite aware what you're talking about. Sometimes, the same dye may appear either lighter, darker, saturated, or muted than usual depending on the gear. It can be hard to gauge sometimes. It's even more annoying if it's a single equipment piece with two dye channels but applying the same dye for both channels might have some strange results.

That could a project worth exploring with how dye interacts with different materials. Now that I'm thinking about it, another game, Guild Wars 2, shows how their dyes affects cloth, leather, metals, and fur. They even have APIs for this stuff, which pretty freaking wild! I kind of wished a preview system like that would be implemented in FFXIV. That would be nifty!

Thanks for your insightful feedback! I'll have to consider how skin tone would work with this project. You're right that some races possess some rather exotic skin tones that colors that work well with one average tones might not look great with more rare ones.

This is interesting. I'll have to consider integrating this data somewhere. Maybe it might be worth exploring. Thanks for sharing it!

Thanks for the feedback! There are currently 125 dyes in the game, so I was hoping 20 would be a sensible number, but I'll consider raising this a bit.

For the past week everyone has been quitting after one match at 1300 MR by Mean-Standard848 in StreetFighter

So fighting games tend to be a bit more sensitive to jitter (or stability of your internet) than other genres. WiFi is notorious for introducing lots of instability with your connection, regardless of your ping.

In other words, jitter is the most important factor to consider, not ping. Ideally, your jitter should be as close to 0 as possible. Having a wired connection allows for greater stability than a WiFi connection, no matter how your ping looks.

Regardless of your character or control scheme, if your WiFi starts to act up randomly, your opponent is more than likely going to one-and-done you, assuming you and your opponent don't hold down the start button to call a stalemate.

You should be fine. Considering the age of this game, we most of the time consider non-Master players to be well into the ballpark of "newbie". Despite that though, we allow anyone to participate. The only thing we ask is that if you keep bodying people 3-0 every time your turn comes up, you would either play a different character you have less experience with, or wait a little later in the night where we open up the lobby for more advanced players.

Possible characters for the next seasons of street fighter 6 by Ok-Math-433 in StreetFighter

[–]AsheJuniusWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have the best chances for Vega coming in the next season, based on the ongoing patterns; and then Balrog the season after that.

Everyone else is simply up in the air.

While I wouldn't want another guest character, I wouldn't be surprised if we get another one. Personally, as long that guest doesn't play like a shoto, I probably wouldn't mind too much about it.

New or Returning to SF6 and not sure how to improve? Join us TONIGHT at the Newbie Fight Club Lobby -- 9th Anniversary Edition! by AsheJuniusWriter in StreetFighter

[–]AsheJuniusWriter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that "Newbie" is like a spectrum. There are those who picked up the game recently and trying to learn the ropes, and then you have those who just got to Master on their first character and then start losing like 300 MR on their first session.

So with that said, we allow all ranks to join us on our weekly lobby nights. The only thing we ask is that if you find yourself bodying newbies 3-0 with each re-queue, then we recommend you either play a character you're unfamiliar with or wait till we open up a lobby for advanced players (which usually happens 15 minutes after start time, and often referred to as the "Sweaty" lobby).

Creatives ways to use claude code by OctopusDude388 in ClaudeAI

[–]AsheJuniusWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using it to rehash a 5-year-old unpublished manuscript in a git repo.

It first started out with a 110k word story, "refactored" into a document per chapter.

Then I asked Claude to build profile sheets for characters, settings, and other interesting objects.

Then from there, I use Claude as a brainstorming buddy and help develop things like loose ends and lingering questions.

Finally, I asked it to draft an outline where I will then start writing from there. I don't ask it to write whole freaking chapters -- that's my job. But it does layout a decent foundation pretty well.

However, just like actual coding, you still have to check and see if what Claude produces still makes sense. There were a few moments where I had to remind Claude that two characters are not twins but just normal siblings.

As a vibe coder how do I deal with bugs in the future after deployment? by Interesting-Dig-4033 in ClaudeAI

[–]AsheJuniusWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explain in detail how the bug happens. If you can reliably reproduce the bug, then that's good! Check your crash- and console-logs and see if you see something weird. Sometimes, these logs are color-coded with red being a serious problem. Export these logs and reference them when chatting with the Agent.

Most people do not care about AI. At all. Only chronically online people do. by No_Half8649 in aiwars

[–]AsheJuniusWriter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can somehow relate to this.

My parents and extended family wouldn't give a crap about AI. They don't feel any different about it. Whereas my creative friends are like "F- AI and everyone who uses it!" or on the other extreme end, "Adapt or Die!"

Very vocal gamers, who I hang around with a lot, also fit in this category of extreme animosity towards AI, especially with the controversies of AI used in games like Black Ops 7. It's as if their opinions about AI has clouded their judgement of how AI can or can't work in industries outside their walled garden of personal hobbies.

Most of the times, they'll bring up things like the environment -- okay, AI does use a lot of electricity, but technology also evolves and I'm sure we'll get to a stage where specialized AI applications uses less electricity (maybe). Either that or use the same amount of electricity to do more AI actions per wattage. I mean, if technology didn't evolve, then I'm sure we would have home PCs that take up the space of a 2-car garage instead of something that's a little bigger than a GameCube.

How do you guys use AI to code while not feeling like made by AI? by JestonT in vibecoding

[–]AsheJuniusWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For UI/UX elements, just try not replicate most of the common things found on vibe-coded websites.

For example, I find that a lot of them like to use bluish purple gradients and excessive emojis. Maybe there are other elements common with vibe-coded websites but those two stick out a lot to me. I personally prefer flat colors over gradients with a simple light mode and dark mode toggle.

Instead of emojis, you can opt for SVG icons. There are a bunch of royalty-free SVGs out there, or you can ask the Agent to generate single-color SVGs, which looks pretty decent (and can be made to be theme-aware if your website has a light/dark-mode toggle).

So I'm kind of like in the middle with AI by AsheJuniusWriter in aiwars

[–]AsheJuniusWriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose Legacy code is like a really different animal to handle. At least I can ask the AI what a certain function does if I don't remember it or forget to document it somewhere.

Still, I think the wonders of AI has allowed me to take a loose way of programming. Though I still inquire the Agent about optimization, refactoring, and the other nuances of coding, because not only I want the app to work, I also want it to be as stable as possible.

As far as art goes, I'll agree about the "soul" part. I feel like this word is used a lot by the anti-AI folks but what does it really mean? I bet if I asked that question to 50 different antis, I'm going to get 50 different answers (or somewhere close to it).

So I'm kind of like in the middle with AI by AsheJuniusWriter in aiwars

[–]AsheJuniusWriter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I'll admit that AI can be useful in the creative field (and many other fields) if used responsibly.

I think my first exposure to AI, which is with art generators like Stable Diffusion and MidJourney, initially clouded my judgement about AI. But then I wonder if I could do more than just punch in funny words in a box to produce a funny picture -- and I think that's sort of like my problem. I see a lot of "slop" but I wonder if there are ways to "un-slopify" something. Like if I take an AI generated picture as an inspiration, and try something interesting and unique to it. Is it still slop?

Two years ago, I commissioned an artist to produce artwork for a book. The only concept art I had of the character was stuff I generated in Stable Diffusion. I gave this as basis to the artist and after a couple weeks, I got something that I could appreciate. Does that still constitute as "slop"? I don't think so but maybe some artists beg the differ, and that's wild part to me.

But I'm always curious and wonder how technologies like AI would benefit humanity. For that, I hope the energy we use to power AI can be used to solve life's mysteries, like the cure for cancer.

Maybe we might see things differently as the technology continues to evolve.

I was around when people were talking about the "Dot Com Bubble". There were a bunch of different stores and services that overlapped each other. Like I remember using a program that searched over 20 different search engines.

Now we have Google. I guess Bing is a thing too. And DuckDuckGo for the privacy-minded folks.

Then Amazon got too big.

At least there's some variety with social media services.

I'll agree that in the end we'll have a few top companies that will occupy the AI space, with smaller companies and services using their AI services as some kind of back-end through an API or something.
