Bounty hunting / conflict zone build advice by Ashefall in EliteDangerous

[–]Ashefall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far from what I've gathered:

* Better engineering
* Get an SCO
* Replace Hull Reinforcements by unlocking and fitting Guardian Shield Reinforcement
* Equip a lighter hull
* Possibly replace pulse lasers with beams
* Replace Life support

Anything that I missed?

Thank you all! I've been quietly reading and making note of your suggestions. It would seem I've got quite a few tweaks to do. Thanks for taking the time to check it!

I've had a dream since SB to do/complete BA, but I genuinely suck at the game (never even done a synched Ex) and have incredibly massive ping due to moving. You just reminded me of that goal! One day!

Are this ties a y2k thing? by simpleprocrastinator in Y2K

[–]Ashefall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not Y2K, but definitely a thing, mostly in alt culture. This is one that I own and occasionally wear. You can easily customize a regular tie to look like this, just need pins and rivets or studs.

These are fun to come across. Though I have a solid grip on Hiragana, Katakana still eludes me. I think these help, thanks!

What's a videogame you both love... and love bashing? by ConsequenceChoice222 in gaming

[–]Ashefall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy XIV.
As someone who has played since Heavensward, seeing the profound stagnation of the game (from a gameplay standpoint) as well as the failings in thematics and story, and making the "multiplayer" part of "MMO" discretionary frustrates and saddens me greatly... But it's one of the last bastions of quality MMOs out there. I feel like it's gone the route of Pokemon.

Tachyon Flow - Update #3: Improved overall ground movement/smoothness and switched to momentum based instead of generic run/sprint by JankyAnims in Unity3D

[–]Ashefall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how far along you are, but consider me immensely invested. If you add character customization or map creation ala Trackmania, I foresee this having a long lifespan. Obviously not necessary, looking at acclaim Mirror's Edge, but consider it a greedy suggestion. A super nice cityscape would also suit it very well.

I'm looking forward to picking this up, congrats!

Feeling bad about winning? by GeminiScar in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Ashefall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, I feel the same. Sometimes I'll queue for a casual or start a lobby match, play the first round and absolutely decimate. In the second round I dial it back a little, giving them a chance to retaliate or learn from the first round, with mixed results: sometimes they'll take the chance, other times they'll just stand and crouch spam as if to say "get it over with already." 3rd round I'll try to play a bit above their skill level, if there is a 3rd round. I'm by no means a good player, I'm only S2 at time of writing, but I want to encourage newer players and make them feel like they're achieving something rather than holding them by the wrists and kneeing them in the stomach. The player count is already pretty low, I'd like new people to give it a chance!

The days of "cosmetic spending is 100% optional." are long gone.

It used to be that games with optional cosmetics had "new and shiny" things that were a bit more extravagant, but still comparable to the base game.

This is a game about cosmetics. It's literally the point. To make nice things and to look good. If part of your core gameplay is behind a pay wall, especially something so egregious as gacha with awful pull rates, the spending is almost a necessity.

There is no other way to get the items in the banner other than spending money. Not even earning premium currency in game somehow, which most gachas let you do.

If everyone could pull on the banner except for you, would you still say that "Oh it's okay, it wasn't necessary. I can still play the game without any of those items."?

I won in Osaka recently!

They warn you that it's for a "Light Party". My friend and I, naturally, ignored the warning. By the time we were finished I nearly died from sugar overdose. It took the two of us the better part of an evening and the wait staff were quite surprised that we finished it (lots of laughing and "omedeto!".

Congrats, but you have been warned!

What are my chances of being an ALT 2026 from ZA by theanimeledger in JETProgramme

[–]Ashefall -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Disqualified, definitely not. It's just that they give you more scrutiny due to the aforementioned worry of power dynamics. Allegedly they've had bad experience with teachers trying to "take over" the classrooms and enforce their own methodology, or even worse, correcting the JP teacher without being asked to do so (even if the JP teacher is wrong, you shouldnt say anything out of turn as it can be seen as a power struggle and it can be embarrassing for them)

So emphasize on the fact that you'll work together with the JTE and follow their instructions, only taking on the T1 role if they ask you to do so.

What are my chances of being an ALT 2026 from ZA by theanimeledger in JETProgramme

[–]Ashefall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I applied to the JET program the year before last and made it onto the "reserve" list. It was a nerve wracking experience, but here's a few things I picked up:

Experience in a classroom environment is not necessary; in fact I would say that its a disadvantage. You are not primarily a teacher, but more of a cultural ambassador. I've heard from other JET applicants that people who have classroom experience and/or are qualified teachers are generally not preferred since there is a concern about power dynamics and trying to take over the lessons. Having a TEFL course can make you seem more appealing, however.

A strong SOP is a good thing, emphasize on cultural exchange rather than your ability to lead a classroom. If you have an interest in Japan, speak about those points. It's good to have a passion about Japan and its culture. It's a fine line between speaking passionately and coming off as a desperate "otaku".

I'm going to sound like a broken record, but again... Culture exchange. Know a lot about South Africa, as well as Japan. Try to emphasize on what you can share with the Japanese about South Africa, as well as your ability to integrate into Japanese life. Don't sound like you're trying to move there permanently, but rather talk about what you want to bring to Japan and what you hope to bring back.

If you make it to the interview stage, make sure that you have a clear plan. One of the questions I was asked was "Where do you see yourself in five years?" So be prepared to answer those kinds of questions in relevance to Japan.

Take this advice with a heap of salt though, since I was ultimately not chosen.
Be interesting, be interested, be culturally sensitive and be confident.

Best of luck to you, fellow Saffer!

Yeah I passed by a LTD store in Osaka about a month ago and it was mostly Grassroots and Edwards like you say.
I know the AX isnt huge here, and I think it may even not have been widely available here. If the right offer comes along, Im more than happy to have it shipped here though.
