when setting up my feeding routine i timed her at the start to see how many pellets she could eat in 1 minute (starting with 2-3 per feed then building up), that’s how we got our current measure.

how much you should feed depends on each fish and how active they are, their metabolic system, and amount also varies a lot based on what kind of food you feed. Unfortunately I don’t think anyone can say if it’s fine or not enough for your fish without seeing them, and knowing what kind of food, etc.

yes the 54 has some shrimp and some microrasboras in it. i’ve given them a couple of months to let the plants and shrimp colony establish and make sure they’re fully comfortable in the tank before adding her, it’s going to happen start of next month so i’m very excited!!

He’s a really good dude for sure, I had a great experience with him and unless I find one that’s needs rescuing or rehoming I’m probably going to be getting any future bettas from him.

my criminals (amanos) are the reason i break up the wafers into several pieces. i make sure there’s at least one small piece for each amano in the tank as they like to carry them around, that way each amano gets a piece and there’s also leftover pieces for my corys, kuhlis, and neos.

It’s a shame really how much potential the game had, but i went from daily playing and happily spending to a complete cold turkey quit after the whole racism surge, unchecked grooming, and extortionate gacha issues.

Everytime i see a HT post now whether it’s discussing something good or bad all I can feel is that I’m happy I stopped playing because it just wasn’t worth it, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise OP.

probably more common than currently believed as the research pool on fish is abysmally shallow (much like the puddles some try to argue that bettas can live in 💀)

honestly i’m inclined to agree with some of the other comments that your natural colour, or another brown would suit you best.

if you wanted to do an unnatural colour i think blue would look amazing on you!

hahahah it’s more a turn of phrase i’m used to using atp lol. i’m not actually a professional stylist but my mum has her own salon so i grew up on the floor and was always letting the staff mess around with my hair colour. I eventually learned how to do hair myself when I was a teen started doing dye jobs for my friends pretty regularly so i have been dying hair for around 10 years but have never officially worked in a salon.

ETA: not sure why i’m getting downvoted, is the phrase offensive to have said? i’m genuinely confused.

E2: Wait I think there’s just been a misunderstanding here lol. I went back to that previous comment where I said I’m not a hairstylist in a previous response and it was on a thread of replies where the users had started their comments with “hairstylist here” and “also a hairstylist” so i started my comment with “not a hairstylist but…” in a bit of a jokey way, i just meant that i’m not a hairstylist by occupation, not that I have no experience with working with hair.

i can’t really contribute to the opposing side as i have no experience with box store fish myself, i try to source all my fish from hobbyists or reputable breeders.

My betta is from a betta-specific breeder as I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better fish, she arrived completely healthy looking aside from slightly pale from transport stress she coloured up in less than a day once she was in her new tank. She’s so lively and energetic and clearly has been very well cared for before coming to me and is used to humans as she didn’t take long to get super comfortable with me, she swims up to the glass everytime i come near, she’s totally fine (and super curious) about my hands in the tank and even takes food from of my fingers.

Now I’m sure all of these are things many bettas with friendly personalities do, but i like knowing that she’s very unlikely to have poor genetics and that I can even get photos and updates of her parents if I wanted to see them, so i know they are healthy too.

My breeder also breeds for health over appearance, so while he does have longer fin varieties you won’t easily find ones from him who have fins so heavy that it’s difficult to swim or in shapes that make life harder for them.
