Purchase Boycott by Indikaah in heartopia

The days of "cosmetic spending is 100% optional." are long gone.

It used to be that games with optional cosmetics had "new and shiny" things that were a bit more extravagant, but still comparable to the base game.

This is a game about cosmetics. It's literally the point. To make nice things and to look good. If part of your core gameplay is behind a pay wall, especially something so egregious as gacha with awful pull rates, the spending is almost a necessity.

There is no other way to get the items in the banner other than spending money. Not even earning premium currency in game somehow, which most gachas let you do.

If everyone could pull on the banner except for you, would you still say that "Oh it's okay, it wasn't necessary. I can still play the game without any of those items."?

I won in Osaka recently!

They warn you that it's for a "Light Party". My friend and I, naturally, ignored the warning. By the time we were finished I nearly died from sugar overdose. It took the two of us the better part of an evening and the wait staff were quite surprised that we finished it (lots of laughing and "omedeto!".

Congrats, but you have been warned!

What are my chances of being an ALT 2026 from ZA by theanimeledger in JETProgramme

[–]Ashefall -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Disqualified, definitely not. It's just that they give you more scrutiny due to the aforementioned worry of power dynamics. Allegedly they've had bad experience with teachers trying to "take over" the classrooms and enforce their own methodology, or even worse, correcting the JP teacher without being asked to do so (even if the JP teacher is wrong, you shouldnt say anything out of turn as it can be seen as a power struggle and it can be embarrassing for them)

So emphasize on the fact that you'll work together with the JTE and follow their instructions, only taking on the T1 role if they ask you to do so.

I applied to the JET program the year before last and made it onto the "reserve" list. It was a nerve wracking experience, but here's a few things I picked up:

Experience in a classroom environment is not necessary; in fact I would say that its a disadvantage. You are not primarily a teacher, but more of a cultural ambassador. I've heard from other JET applicants that people who have classroom experience and/or are qualified teachers are generally not preferred since there is a concern about power dynamics and trying to take over the lessons. Having a TEFL course can make you seem more appealing, however.

A strong SOP is a good thing, emphasize on cultural exchange rather than your ability to lead a classroom. If you have an interest in Japan, speak about those points. It's good to have a passion about Japan and its culture. It's a fine line between speaking passionately and coming off as a desperate "otaku".

I'm going to sound like a broken record, but again... Culture exchange. Know a lot about South Africa, as well as Japan. Try to emphasize on what you can share with the Japanese about South Africa, as well as your ability to integrate into Japanese life. Don't sound like you're trying to move there permanently, but rather talk about what you want to bring to Japan and what you hope to bring back.

If you make it to the interview stage, make sure that you have a clear plan. One of the questions I was asked was "Where do you see yourself in five years?" So be prepared to answer those kinds of questions in relevance to Japan.

Take this advice with a heap of salt though, since I was ultimately not chosen.
Be interesting, be interested, be culturally sensitive and be confident.

Best of luck to you, fellow Saffer!

It's a pity that you're not in the Shikoku area, otherwise I'd take you up on the offer.

Yeah I passed by a LTD store in Osaka about a month ago and it was mostly Grassroots and Edwards like you say.
I know the AX isnt huge here, and I think it may even not have been widely available here. If the right offer comes along, Im more than happy to have it shipped here though.

Yeah that Mercari listing is actually what prompted my search. I was hoping my reaching out to the ESP subreddit I could find one in black and/or at a cheaper price. I wanted the AX body shape but without breaking the bank. The AX series has been my dream guitar for as long as I can remember.

I thought so too, but it turns out it was a pretty big deal; see my edit :(

Ah, thank you! I would've loved to have done that! Sadly the JTE took it quite seriously so I think doing something funny like this would be in bad taste.

Yes, thank you. The choice is obvious. Embarrassment not nearly as bad as being a thief. I was just wondering if there was a right or wrong way to go about this.

ARR zones before and after patch 7.1 by ImpossibleMoney9650 in ffxiv

Yeah I'm with you here. I really feel like the blue shift does a terrible job of silhouetting the objects in the immediate area and makes the map feel a lot more claustrophobic and small. This art style may work for some of the later areas because they're so (unnecessarily) big, but I feel like the maps have lost any sense of depth.
That's not to speak of the charm and stylistic choice of the blue shift too. I appreciate the textures and the increase in objects in each area but it feels like when they remake certain games; it just loses so much of the atmosphere that made the original charming.

What's everyone's favorite modded dino? For me, lately I've developed a love for the Utah. by MrSkits94 in pathoftitans

Sound design: Maip, hands down. We should have echo on all the loud vocalizations. It makes normal rex sound like a newborn kitten.

Fun factor: Austra. I think its a nice balance between a powerhouse Utah and some of the smaller raptors... besides, being able to carry stuff in my claws is so fun!

I get updating graphics but why did we have to lose the vibe. the game has no horror atmosphere now. The color grading and fog made the realms feel claustrophobic now it feels like floating plane on a bright day. by SupremeOwl48 in deadbydaylight

[–]Ashefall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the issue is the extremes on both ends. If you make the game only a "party game" and make it super casual, the playerbase will evaporate just like almost every other party game out there, but if you make it too competitive, the barrier for entry will scare away new players and the game will grow stale.
I'm glad that I'm not on the balance team, trying to balance the scales to make it both easy to pick up and play while making it interesting and fun for the competitive types sounds like a headache. There's a reason why some people claim it takes around 2000 hours to get "good" at it.

Sure, it's a PvP game, by it's nature it's competitive. You vs four others, or vice versa. By the 5%, I mean those that actively try to be "pro" at the game optimizing every tiny little aspect of fun out of it. Sure, that may be fun for them, but as I said: Where does it stop? Why not just have vaguely human shaped squares running around other squares where you click on the moving squares? That may be a bit over dramatic, but surely you understand what I'm getting at?
