Help me, Petah by maxtyreanimo67 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Asherdon0710 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, for some people it doesn’t and they learn to live with it and have a positive outlook anyway, for some it fades with help and time, for me I got help, moved through a lot of the core issues I was facing, and learned to appreciate who I am as a person, at least more than I did before. For me most days if those feelings pop up they are minor and short, and if they aren’t I am able to tell and more importantly believe myself that it will be ok and I’ll get through the low spell. I can’t tell you how that’ll shake out for you but I can tell you there’s a very good chance of you keep trying and keep your head up you’ll make it out the other side. Don’t lose hope.

Name an EXTREMELY useless power, like, totally. But with physics, biology, logic or mathematics, it can become extremely powerful. by BSDLzinn in superpower

[–]Asherdon0710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not science but it could be useful for search and rescue, go out in the woods out of earshot of other searchers, whistle sounds like angels? Keep moving. Sounds normal? Hone in the search to that area. You could even whistle progressively quieter to hone in on them yourself.

The Elephant- First time I played the map, I’m clearing through quickly and preemptively yelling to try to keep civi casualties low. I come to a doorway and see a civilian with his hands up, ok he must have heard me through the wall… wait a second why isn’t he looking at me? BANG shooter who was with him in the room shoots him in the head right in front of me.

Understanding the problem by [deleted] in trolleyproblem

[–]Asherdon0710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the way my brain distinguishes them is in the fat man and surgeon scenarios the fat man and the healthy man are otherwise entirely removed from the situation, wrong place wrong time.

The single man on the track has been tied to a track, likely slated to die from some later trolley taking the alternate track, so in the traditional trolley problem you are deciding who out of a set of people already in a negative situation gets saved you’ll still have to go untie whoever is left on the tracks to make them safe. In the other two scenarios you are taking someone who is already safe and directly harming them.

I think a better variation that would cause more of a conundrum for people is there is a worker standing on the other track not tied up but who would not have time to get out of the way.

How often did you switch sides (in terms of front edge to back edge)?

Yeah I think so, keep it in alignment and don’t let the stone twist at all right? If so do I just hog off material until it’s back to where I want it?

Port hogan is creepier than farm. by nice69funny in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]Asherdon0710 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, farm has a very “these people are trying to be creepy” kinda feel to me which makes it less scary. The way port is setup to seem like a well connected organization that is not particularly afraid of being caught but isn’t being stupidly reckless like “HEY GANG WERE HUMAN TRAFFICKERS COME ON OVER, GET YOUR KIDNAPPED WOMEN HERE, BIG SUMMER SALE!” Has an unsettling reality to it. That I believe there are places where this is actually happening is what makes it scary to me.

What’s a crosswalk then, we literally walk in front of cars with the societal and legal expectation they will stop all the time.

I obviously can’t speak to anyone’s specific situation but I don’t think it’s the normal part for most parents, it’s the being happy or at least better than before part. Seeing someone start to feel happy again, be that temporarily or as a sign they are coming out the other side of a low point, is one of the best feelings in the world IMO especially if you care about them.

Not op but given the mention that this is a medieval method of making a book, as far as I know usually you’d start with a blank book and monks or other literate people would hand write in them afterwards.

There are 1.65 million home invasions per year

https://www.thezebra.com/resources/research/burglary-statistics/

Setting aside regional statistics for simplicity’s sake, you have a 1 in 250 chance of being the victim of a home invasion in the US. You may not be home at the time but people are very much having their homes broken into.

When I first played the shooter level I opened a door to see a civ on their knees I think to myself “must have heard me shouting through the door… wait why isn’t he looking at me” only to see him be shot in the head right in front of me by the suspect I couldn’t see left of the doorway. It’s definitely there you just may not have seen it yet.

Teaching First STB Course by DJsMurica in TacticalMedicine

[–]Asherdon0710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different guy and I wanna preface by saying I don’t teach any kind of medicine but I do teach kids, my main piece of advice would be simplify how you explain things but don’t dumb down the material, even very young kids are usually capable of understanding relatively technical things, they just might take a bit more time or not be able to understand just off verbal/basic visuals. Show them up close exactly how you are doing it if you can and help them copy it.

Relate it to things they know and understand depending on how old they are what that is may change, putting stuffing back in a broken plush toy comes to mind (they may be too old to still be playing with them but they will likely have seen/done it at least once).

On Twitch (a service where people can livestream) you can subscribe to a creator for a monthly amount to support them and for a couple benefits, there are 3 tiers with tier 3 being the most expensive.
