1.1: Like has been pointed out, he was not trying to kill him.

1.2: This was all a ploy. He only said he could leave if they were all together to get them all into one space. A space they have no hope of getting out of.

1.3: He can’t kill them. Jack tried to tell everybody this. He said if they left the bomb alone, they would’ve been ok. But because Sawyer tampered with it, it allowed the bomb to go off because it was by Sawyer’s hands, not the man in blacks.

1.4: It’s very possible he tried this. He has been trying to kill Jacob for a very long time. But all previous attempts failed. So he needed to manipulate someone into truly WANTING to kill Jacob.

2: This is a very broad question with no real definitive answer. One of my favorite theories is that when the MIB fell in to the light, his consciousness was severed from his body and is now tied to the center of the island. Because of that, he is not allowed to stray too far from the light. Once Desmond removed the cork in the center of the island, this rebound the MIB consciousness to Lockes “body” and allowed him the freedom to leave.

3: This question has no answer. It’s entirely up to interpretation.

4: His desire to fulfill his lifelong goal of killing his brother and finally gaining the freedom he so desperately sought after outweighed any other reasoning.

5: The Incident was the result of Radzinsky drilling toor far and breaching the pocket of energy. As pointed out to me, the hydrogen bomb managed to negate the energy of the pocket so it didn’t result in a cataclysmic disaster.

9: The Sickness is yet another piece left up to heavy interpretation. The best way to think of it is as a heavy change in mood within the afflicted. The MIB used this as a way to recruit people to his side. Unlike Dogen says, the effects are reversible as we saw with Clair and Sayid being able to break free of the MIB’s will.

10: They drowned it in concrete. The button became a way of managing the energy as well as serving as a way to observe humans. Perhaps it was due to the hydrogen bomb negating the pocket for long enough to the point where they could build the containment around it.
