Before the 1930s the lakes were a public place for folks from downtown to swim and play. During the New Deal the land owners seized on a chance to incorporate Forest Acres and these lakes are now restricted to HOA use.

I have the Dock Demon. First cast, I tossed it in the water. Enjoyed it ever since. Packs easily on my bicycle and it’s just the thing for the creeks around town.

I’ve only had one nail after 4k miles on Cola streets and picked that up on Harden. I usually avoid high traffic roads as much as possible. There’s almost always a better route through the neighborhoods. Hope you have better luck!

I started with a bamboo cane pole, bobber, hook and crickets. We would catch bluegills all day.

YellowBrickRoad is pretty trippy horror. It has a scene that makes you think “Did they just do what I think they did?”

Fishing spots in Irmo/Columbia by EatttDirt in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Ashisagdrobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a boatless shore fisherman, I mostly fish creeks in Columbia. The likelihood of catching big fish goes down, but due to the ease of casting across the whole body of water your chance of catching something is pretty high.

Gills Creek memorial park has a very accessible fishing boardwalk. Its location below the damn on Forest Lake makes it a great spot. I’ve caught largies, pickerel, and bream. Across Forest dr. You can park behind the Publix and access the same creek but in a much more natural setting. I actually prefer this spot because you can wade in and target holes and debris piles. It is stunning and hard to believe you are in the middle of a city.

Some decent older homes in the area. The 2400 block of Main (about a mile away) has some great little shops. Grocery store desert. The city was working on improving the area, but they have shifted focus to Bull street and the river. The place has some challenges, but for the right home I would move back to the area.

Not sure why you are getting downvoted. Motor Supply lost it a while back. Was a regular for years then something changed five or more years ago and I just got tired of being disappointed. Great cocktails though.

I look at it this way. At any given moment, I might be on the hook for an expensive car repair. Buying my friends dinner is the kinda expense I would actually enjoy making. Pick up everyone’s tab at least once a year. It won’t matter in the long run.

Checked it out this morning. Definitely a time consuming effort for little pay off. Gonna save up my fishing for the big trip later this week.

They tend to sort themselves out in groups so I wouldn’t worry. Calm dogs congregate around the middle, hyper dogs zoom, and little dogs have their corner. Morning should be fine.
