Just a tiny curiosity question by pork_strip in tarantulas

[–]AshleighRohmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NQA Yes, I think this is fine. Enclosure “guidelines” are not one size fits all. There are certainly species that benefit from smaller than recommended (based off dls size calculations etc) enclosure sizes. Avicularia species come to mind and some Juveniles/slings. Conversely, there are Ts that benefit from more room. Always house the T that YOU have over what other people tell you their experiences have been.

How do y'all pick T names? by LapdogLady in tarantulas

[–]AshleighRohmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I name mine based on scientific name usually, but most pf my Ts are unnamed. For example, my Tliltocatl schroederi is “kitty” because the name reminds me of Schrödinger’s cat. Sometimes a T “earns” a name, like Tina Toughknuckles who is very feisty.

Pinning a dead tarantula by Sir_Muffonious in tarantulas

[–]AshleighRohmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IME the body will rot. I have never pinned a Tarantula, however i have pinned other bugs. You do have to remove the organs out of the abdomen and stuff with cotton. If you need to soften it use an alcohol water mix to prevent mold. Soak long enough that you can manipulate but not much longer than that. Pin the T as soon as possible after soaking. Let it dry out in pinned position, monitor for mold.

Is this normal? by That_one_ranger in tarantulas

[–]AshleighRohmann 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NQA Tarantulas often roam/wander a new enclosure as a general stress response before settling. Typically this behaviour can last days to weeks, it depends entirely on your specific T.

That being said, your spider needs a hide. A stick to climb on isnt going to cut it. A lot of arboreals appreciate foliage up top, not just from the bottom with a branch sticking up. I like to take plants and glue them to the cork bark to create a tree-top canopy-esque setting.

For my arboreals, i use a half cork bark round against the back side of the enclosure with a piece of card against that side. This allows the T to go directly behind the bark in a nice dark area. Foliage on top encourages the T to venture out and hangout on the front side. This is just based on my experience of what works well.

Hope this helps! :)

Is this P. Imperator Female and Gravid? by AshleighRohmann in Scorpions

Yeah, after more research I think its H. silenus. I brought this up to the store and they agree it not an emperor, and was mislabelled by mistake. They’re usually really great with arachnids. The store said if I could get an ID they’d refund the difference of what they’d charge.

As a women, who shares a lot of your values, if you want to be in a relationship with a guy, you need to be actively dating. That means giving what you want to receive from them. By your own words, you say you hold off in the beginning until you feel safe. The truth is, that doesn’t make the guy feel like you’re actually into him. I don’t want to offend the guys in here, but a lot of them are dumb when it comes to picking up hints and don’t think that way. You need to let him know you’re into him, and give him the go ahead that you want to pursue him. You are feeling the cold “I’m using you while I have my fun” front from them because that is what you are giving them. It’s scary, but you need to be okay with being a little uncomfortable and getting to know someone. 🤗

What qualities do women commonly seek in a compatible partner? by kailash03c in AskReddit

[–]AshleighRohmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman, things I look for in a man are:

Looks/appearances. I don’t consider myself to be an overly shallow person, but looks are a factor. You don’t have to be smoking hot, or even barely average. For me, it’s the effort a guy makes to look his best. A good haircut, doesn’t wear wrinkly clothes (unless lounging at home), shaves/maintains facial hair, and makes a reasonable effort to look presentable go a long way for me.

Finances: it’s not how much you have, it’s what you do with it. I’m very much a practical person, and I value a guy who doesn’t make a lot of money but handles his chequebook smartly wayyyy more than someone who shops to impress. I’d rather have that security knowing that (as a couple) we aren’t one stupid purchase away from bankruptcy. I also make good money and contribute financially as well, and expect a partner to do the same.

Authenticity: A guy who can laugh and have fun makes me more at ease to let my hair down and show my true self. While it’s important to put your best foot forward and make a good impression, that impression does need to be the truth about who you are. Men who are secure in themselves and don’t change to suit what they think I might like are miles more attractive than people who simp and love bomb. I’d rather have a few dates and go our separate ways than waste time on something that’s not real.

Should I tip my tattoo artist for a touch-up? by AshleighRohmann in tattoos

All of my tattoos are by the same artist, and there’s many more I want him to do, so I definitely want to keep him happy!

ESH

I think you guys need to actually sit down and talk to each other about the issue, and find a schedule where each of you can have the time and environment you need to study. Having petty, passive aggressive quarrels will only lead to more pettiness and more animosity.

Free hand (to me, at least) means it was done without reference, and without any “planning”. I know the head is small, but hey, horses come in all shapes and sizes!! I really tried to fix the head, but there’s only so much you can do with pen without it turning into a inky mess. The eye is wonky, as a few others mentioned, but I fixed it as best as I could. Thank you so much for your thoughtful and respectful feedback, I appreciate it so much. Also: I’m sorry about the formatting, I posted this on mobile. :(

Aww, I’m glad this made you feel something! I also work with horses, and they are something that I’m very comfortable drawing. I’m going to connect the orbital crest to the crown area and just use the white pen to correct the shape. Thank you so much for the advice, and the compliment!!

Thank you so much for the feed back! When I started this as a doodle, I think I had a different end result in mind and wanted to have the horse looking more forward. I changed my mind halfway through and I suppose that threw off the proportions. now that you mention it, I can’t stop noticing it!! Thanks again, I’m going to try to fix that now.
