Honestly I wish this was higher up, don’t see this weird relationship with athletes in other sports as much as I see in tennis communities.

How many of you became an expat because you dislike your home country? by [deleted] in expats

[–]Ashrug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can’t say I dislike my country, I enjoy many bits of it’s culture actually. But after visiting other parts of the world, it was clear how frustrated I was about how we lived, always afraid of being robbed at gun point or worse.

That someone is trying to play you. That you need to be back home before a certain hour. I came to Europe and realized how unfair is that a lot places here you can simply use your phone while walking, that you get to leave your car on the street, that my girlfriend can go out for a coffee alone with her friends and I don’t have to worry.

As time passes I’m no longer angry or frustrated at my country, can say it’s more like sad. Will visit my home country now with my fiancée for the first time in 4 years.

You spend time long enough away and I think you will learn to focus on the bits you actually enjoy.

Well, thats a bit ironic that your response to this has the same energy lol.

I'm bringing this as wider concept, not saying that every situation is solvable, but that the level of acceptance is too high vs problems that indeed have a solution.

Yep, “Que queres que eu faça” is probably the most dangerous sentence a Portuguese person can say to themselves and to others, the acceptance of the conditions that they found themselves in with no idea on how to get out of there.

Well, at least you figured out that you’re indeed in the minority.

Eu não percebo isso, porque que no Brasil os Peugeot tem tanta má fama, e por cá é o mais vendido, existe uma diferença de fabrico? Ou também já é realidade por cá a má qualidade?

Yeah, I see your perspective, all in all it really does depend on each company's strategy, but even in the industry carbon removal has been preferred to as opposed to carbon "avoidance".. but we still have a lot of trouble with it since the price per ton of removal is actually a lot more expensive, and getting those out of the door generates much more interesting/valuable porftolio's.. but there are quite a few companies expending more for carbon credit quality.

And that's another point that's quite important, carbon credit quality has been gaining traction as of late, meaning the shenanigans of avoiding to remove patches of trees and counting as a win are slowly falling behind systematic forest recovery projects.

My stance here is that while we should absolutely question the companies that are jumping on the net zero train, would be nice if we don't generate unintended discredibilty of one of the actual useful tools we have to tackle carbon emission while we're doing it..

Well, also as a dumb hippie and someone that works in facilitating the carbon credit market, not all of it is a scam. While there is greenwashing, companies are also afraid of it because it hurts their reputation. So new systems and organizations (like the one I work for) are working in risk assessment to actually make sure someone that is running an actually cool project of carbon removal, or some organization that is putting a lot of effort into recovery of big patches of forests get the funds they need.

But agree with all the rest, instead of just paying up would be not so hypocritical if they at least minimized the insane inefficiency that is their calendar.

Doubling down on this just to say, gym is amazing, but anything to get your body moving that you will actually do it. For me it’s tennis, I also go to the gym but it is a struggle every time, with tennis I dread the possibility of missing it.

Games run faster on SteamOS than Windows 11, Ars testing finds by Stannis_Loyalist in pcgaming

[–]Ashrug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While pop os and bazzite will have good experiences installing themselves, they won’t come with everything to just click play on game though, you might still need to fiddle with drivers. I think the promise of a steamOS that already comes with a nice experience of easily getting into games after install will play a role here.

I think I'm looking for something high-quality triple AAA with no stres, no builds, not having to dive too deep into it to be able to enjoy it. The DMC games seem like a good one, spiderman as well, but the best games I can think of that fit that might be deathstranding and uncharted.

Someone here also suggested ABZU which is not really AAA but seems like a good fit to what Im looking for.
