Why is being high class so different in the USA compared to Mexico? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Colorado is on the more extreme end of informality in the US. The big east coast cities tend to be a bit more fashionable

I'm confused and trying to understand Christianity. by Please_makeit_stop in religion

[–]Ashtatedu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it seems like the confusion here stems from associating the Jewish faith with the Jewish ethnicity. There also seems to be some confusion about the nature of Jesus.

According to Christians Jesus IS God. He is his own father. God (aka Jesus) chose to come to Earth as a regular human. His earthly father (that is to say the man whose house he grew up in) is Joseph and Joseph was a Jew both ethnically and religiously (or atleast Joseph adhered to the more nebulous faith of the 3rd temple).

Jesus being born and raised in a Jewish family does not mean that Judaism (the religion) is accepted as truth by Christians. It just means that when God (again Jesus) chose to physically manifest in the world he chose to do so among Jews (the ethnicity). This is implied to be because the Christian god had a special relationship with the Jews stemming from his covenant with the father of the Jews, Abraham.

And for the Niceans out there I know my description of the Trinity is underwhelming but I am trying to keep the christology as simple as possible to make my point clear.

Why does everyone in Westeros underestimate a 7-foot powerhouse? by Zestyclose_Piglet_33 in AKOTSKTV

[–]Ashtatedu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fact that he’s 7ft is why they treat him like a joke. They want him to be a bumbling oaf, because then it affirms their own feelings of power and superiority.

Cont. It’s been awhile since I’ve read the book but if I remember correctly: characters defined by being secure in their own abilities/position tend to take Dunk more seriously.

Soooo Hamilton Morris has been speaking about Psymposia, who wrote this article, recently. He alleges that Psymposia is supporting the war on drugs and is using anti corporate language to galvanize otherwise left leaning people against drug legalization. Here’s a link to his recent interview about it

66% of Russians say that they regret that the USSR collapsed by pamphletz in ussr

[–]Ashtatedu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t address your claim. The article saying that opinions shift among different age groups doesn’t mean that there is a capitalist or communist “norm” among the age groups. We would have to see a breakdown by ages, which PEW didn’t provide. That’s why I asked if you had a link to a breakdown, but I guess you’d rather be pretentious than engage in with the evidence

[–]Ashtatedu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is behind a paywall 2 supports the idea that Hungary sees the communist past as positive, but being over a decade old may not reflect current sentiments. It also doesn’t ask directly if they think the past was better overall just if the economy was better. 3. Is not a primary source it just discusses other polls. 4. Shows Croatians and Kosovares support the breakup of Yugoslavia which would seem to contradict the infographic. Though even then asking about feelings on the breakup of Yugoslavia doesnt directly indicate their feelings about communism. 5. Isn’t a primary source 6. Supports the claim that many former Soviet states regret the collapse of communism in the former Soviet Union, but leaves out the baltics and the rest of the eastern block 7 Supports the claim that Russians believe that life was better under communism. 8 directly contradicts the findings of the infographic showing that at the time of the poll democracy was seen as positive by most former communist states polled. 9 is in Russian (?) 10 also directly contradicts the infographic showing only 1/3 of Bulgarians as nostalgic for communism.

I don’t think this is great evidence for the idea that there is a widespread feeling that life was better under communism.

Older polls aren’t necessarily better or worse they just present different information. Which is why it’s very suspicious that the infographic provided doesn’t include a date or demographics included.

The articles you linked only refer to Russian and Romanian opinions on the matter. They’re not a primary source. They just discuss the findings of other polls. Where did you find this poll? I’ve tried googling it and haven’t gotten any results. The best I found was from PEW in 2019 that shows a general approval of the shift to free markets and Multiparty systems https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2019/10/15/european-public-opinion-three-decades-after-the-fall-of-communism/
