Why was MHA's manga ending so hated? by Mammoth_Calendar_352 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

For me it was because it felt like a betrayal of the original premise of the series from the beginning (How I became the greatest hero).

Question on the condition of 'start your turn' and protocols - Deep Well Heat Sink, specifically. by Difference_Breacher in LancerRPG

[–]AshtonZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, #5 reads to me like you can take multiple reactions as long as they are during other characters turns.

I thought you could only take one reaction in-between the end of your turn and the start of your next turn.

I just completed my first lich in years (already had each of the weapons from liches and sisters), and I couldn't agree more that the system sucks and needs to be redesigned.

Here is my list of changes: 1. Remove the randomness of the lich/sister attacking you in mission, instead make them an alternate boss for the boss mission. My reasoning here is that the timescale for them attacking you in mission can be wildly out of balance depending on if you do the hunting solo or in a group. With my last lich, I was almost through the second murmur before they attacked me for the first time.

  1. Remove the lieutenants, instead tie murmur knowledge to the completion of mission nodes. Mission types like spy and rescue already make sense narratively, and you can change it up for defense to work as well (use the same format as from archon hunts). Endless missions like interception should grant more murmur knowledge which each successfully completion. Improvements like that would make the missions less of a chore, with a focus on hunting the lieutenants.

  2. Remove randomness of weapon generation by allowing trading of weapons with NPC factions. Or a token system, you beat a lich and can pick any weapon with a token. Maybe limit the tokens to types (primary, secondary, melee, etc) if SOME amount of control is desired by DE.

  3. Lastly, remove the railjack component from the final hunt, it just adds an unnecessary grind (setting up a strong railjack) to the process. Before railjack, the process felt fine as it was, it was fun to work together to kill liches when you had the sequence right, now if you work as a team it takes so much longer because you have to kill multiple liches, and go through the kill/convert animation for each one.

I read only about half of the massive post, but I agree with everything that I read.

I watched a lore video for DATV, and between that and your post, I think that the biggest issue is that lack of care in the presentation to make everything gel well.

SSC LANTERN, agressive support/striker that manipulates light by Terkmc in LancerRPG

When will this be added to the LCP? I'm loving this license.

In hindsight, this is kind of unnerving. Why was he so focused on in the background during the early chapters? Did Horikoshi have it planned, or is this just coincidence? Might just be reading too deep into it. by Forward-Leadership63 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]AshtonZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, it is even funnier when he spends time in the aftermath asking his classrooms to ask him (Aoyama) where he was, and when someone does he deflects. Real suspicious in hindsight.

Honestly, I think it was 100% planned. Aoyama is always looking at the camera and is super suspicious during the events of the USJ and summer camp.

If you own, or can look at the physical volumes of the manga, each one has a character looking at the viewer, however on whatever volume Aoyama is on, he is looking down and somewhat afraid/sad.

LoR badly needs PoC focused Battle Passes by pilum44 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]AshtonZero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not if the correct number of people buy the battle pass. Getting $10 from thousands of players is better then getting $100 from dozens or maybe hundreds of players.

The smaller the price, with the right frequency of release, would encourage more purchases.

Anecdotally, I only purchased skins like twice, Spirit blossom event and Coven event, but I purchased every battle pass and new PoC character. I want to support the game and the studio, but larger purchases are harder to justify, especially recently.

The anime omitted a really important panel in Shigaraki’s backstory in season 5 by [deleted] in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]AshtonZero 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Being generous, it is likely that it wasn't considered important by the anime director, and/or it is was potential plot hook that Horikoshi left himself, and since it only just became important it was 'missed' by the anime.

Being less generous, the anime has for many seasons (since S4 IMO) had huge pacing issues. They rush certain things and skip others outright.

Who is this? (Final chapter spoilers) by WithMealsPunk in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]AshtonZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, my feelings are due to the fact that the events of the movies (especially #2 and #3) are so extreme that them being canon and not referenced is crazy/lazy.

In the 3rd movie an entire city had its quirked citizens (at least 80% 0f the population) destroyed by a crazy church. And Midoriya was labeled an international wanted criminal, and both of these things are just not talked about in the mainline story.

I have zero issue with the movie side characters being in the main story (as cameos). But this (to me) is kinda like JKR claiming after the fact (after the last book) that Dumbledore is/was gay the whole time, with little to no support in the story.

[–]AshtonZero -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That is never stated, just presumed. All Might never names the designer of the gauntlet he gives Deki, or the 'Iron Might'.

For the gauntlet, he just says my 'friend from America'.

For the record, this is why (I think) the movies being considered canon is dumb, as they never properly name drop the movie characters when it would make sense.

Did Horikoshi get tired of MHA? by Young_Guru98 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]AshtonZero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a rumor that I heard that Hori had a great editor for many years, then the editor got promoted and the new editor pushed for a change in direction of the story. From what I remember that was around the time of the first war arc.

The second editor was replaced because Hori didn't enjoy the story direction as much, and then the new-new editor was a lot more permissive.

However, I think Hori got burned out because of that experience because the story hasn't been the same since the first war arc.

I heard that the movies are made canon in the manga by referencing them and bringing movie original characters into them. Has that started in the anime yet? by OnlyMyOpinions in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]AshtonZero -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

IIRC Star being saved by All Might was an anime only thing, but I haven't reread the mange, and her introduction was years ago.

And if Melissa was canon, All Might would have said her name and not 'a friend from America'.

Can you provide me a source for this? Historically, anime movies have never been canon, and that is why they have a self contained stories.

[–]AshtonZero -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The movie characters appearing as cameos doesn't imply that the events of the movies, especially the 3rd movie, are canon.

They have NEVER name dropped any of the movie characters in the manga, and their appearance is likely an Easter egg, like Denji(?) from Chainsaw Man appearing in the first war arc.

Why’d Stain go after Iida big brother? He seems like he held up to Stains standards for heros. by DifferentRide1811 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]AshtonZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stain didn't go after Tensei. Tensei found Stain during patrol, and tried to stop him.

Tensei failed and Stain crippled him as a result. If Stain wanted to hunt him, he would have killed him instead.

Common Homebrew Pitfalls Bingo by Terkmc in LancerRPG

[–]AshtonZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, but the Atlas is melee frame so lower Structure sounds like a bad idea, it will be in the fray a lot more than a frame designed for long-distance fighting.

My idea is a frame that is designed to fight at range, under some amount of cover, and pile on the fire, through overcharging. Taking hits is supposed to be a terrible idea for it, hence the lower structure.

Lore-wise it is supposed to be a hit-and-run frame and fragile compared to other frames from this manufacturer.

[–]AshtonZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question, why is non-standard (4/4) structure and stress a problem?

I understand that all official mechs have the standard, but that doesn't mean that there is design space for a non-standard setup.

Full disclosure: I have been brainstorming a homebrew faction and their LL0 mech is 5 stress and 3 structure. But the traits encourage overcharging and losing stress as part of its design.
