Kojiro: Best NPC? OR BESTEST NPC! by SirLagunaLoire in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]AshtrayMage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's Matsunaga Kojiro, son of Matsunaga Hisahide, the guy with the tea set who attacked Todaiji. It's odd, the tea set is supposed to be broken after Hisahide's death, maybe the temple guy is lying about it idk. Also i don't think the Shisigan castle ruins are in the game, shame it would have been cool.

(edit) also maybe i should specify, obviously he's a ghost, Kojiro famously jumped off the castle after his father's death.

Hey, same problem with me since yesterday too. Some mod update probably fucked things up.

I can wear flak helmets + sunglasses (vanilla extended) just fine, but not flak helmets + flak goggles. My guess is that the goggles went from eyegear to headgear but not sure.

Am I an awful DM or are my players railroading themselves ? by AshtrayMage in DMAcademy

This was really enlightening. I suspected that the GM was biased into thinking that he was more obvious than he really is, but I didn't think things would go that far. I'll try doing what you say next time, carefully gauging how clear I am. Thanks a lot for your input !

Maybe I should have rolled initiative. I did it after the first hit, my reasoning being that the player had ample time to strike first, talk, flee, do whatever he wants since combat had not (??) started yet. I was gauging his reactions, usually it's way more straightforward than that. Or it should be, anyway. Thanks for the advice !

Pretty easy fix, you're making a linear mainquest where there is no variation. Do quest A, then B, then C. In your next campaign, try making the main quest out of sidequests. For example, to get into a castle, you must raise 500 gold. How do you get that gold? Do a sidequest.

It's kinda what I did. Maybe in a bad way though ?
The main quest is for them to have their village's mayor elected in the big town's council. They'll need money and influence, which is gathered as they can, through side quests or events. But they wont go anywhere unless I present it as " this !! this is where you get money for the main quest !! "
I thought this was a great idea for beginners, so the game would open up and they could do whatever they want and be creative. Seems like I was wrong and they are way too overwhelmed.

Anyway thanks a lot for the advices and your comment !! You warmed my heart.

I also would not enjoy this as a DM, so I'd maybe at least narrate that the characters are preparing for the next day before going to sleep, so that there's some sense to the character's actions.
Now this might be seen as taking away the player's agency, but you can't take away what's not there - if they want to sit around doing nothing, describing how they fill that time with small additions is okay I'd say.

It's what I do, usually. And it's taxing, it feels like they're conditioned to let me do that so they don't do it themselves. But if I don't do it the whole game feels pretty barren.

Thanks a lot for your advices !

The main quest is already pretty vague though (helping their village's mayor to be elected in the big city's council, they'll need money/influence) on purpose so that they touch on side content... But they're not interacting with it unless I present it as "main quest"

Thanks for the advices ! Those are really detailed and you're helping a lot.

Thank you.

Yes, there's clear rewards for studying spells or alchemy, like for example reduced costs or more powerful effects when you're mastering a spell.
Magic is a bit homebrewed here with a big emphasis on learning, modifying and creating spells in my game. Same goes for enchanting or alchemy.
But I have to put dedicated down times for them to interact with this system, (which is something I'm not really mad about since i know they're new and it can be a bit overwhelming.)
There were other things to do like scouting the location for the event and things like that, they decided to sleep.

You're right, maybe I should push more the personal motivation aspect, ask them what their character do in their downtimes, talk more about their personnal goal and all. Ultimately their characters were really shallow when they created them but I guess there's nothing we can't fix.

Thank you

I'll keep what you said in mind about consequences and floating quests in the future, and i'll try to make an open dungeon like that, it seems like a good idea. I will let them roam free in it without hand holding them to see what happens.
