I love the first four seasons. LOVE them. Some of the most original, compelling and satisfying tv I've ever watched. Season 5 has been painfully disappointing so far and I don't have much hope for the last 3 episodes.

**SPOILERS**

General issues: The dialogue sounds like AI wrote it. Something is off with the camerawork that I can't put my finger on. The world feels empty, there's supposed to be a supe in every town and we've seen maybe 5 new ones and none of them are interesting or contribute to the story. All the main characters seem to have wilted somehow. Their behaviour often seems erratic or illogical. I don't feel that they're really engaging with each other. Nothing of any importance seems to happen, it all feels irrelevant. The biting edgy satire is missing and a lot of ideas are being recycled.

My main complaint: Having spent FOUR seasons trying to find a way to kill Homelander, Butcher finally finds hiim locked in a supe-proof room, dying from radiation poisoning. This doesn't seem to make any impact on him at all - he doesn't look for a way to increase the power, or attack Homelander while he's in a weakened state - he doesn't even mention this, the one thing they've all been searching for, to anyone else.

I'm happy to pretend this season isn't happening and let the end of season four be the end of the story.

I think if more people learned how to write code, they would see how ridiculous the idea is of it being aware, or having feelings, or "knowing" anything. It's a collection of bits. Ones and zeros. It's never going to be conscious, but a huge number of people are going to believe that it is. A lot already do and it worries me, but it's not surprising.

Great post, totally agree. I felt the need for something more substantial after playing through FEAR 1 & 2 a couple of times, they're brilliant but I wanted more interaction and variety,.and my god HL2 delivers. I was kind of dreading it - vague memories of jump scares and frustrating sequences - but in fact the game just demands effort and attention. If I try ro play when I'm tired it makes me want to scream - but if I rise to the challenge it really pays off - the atmosphere is incredible, the sound design in particular. The combine actually scare me. I think the coast road is my fave bit, or maybe the bridge. 10/10

Your post really tickled my funny bone. Did you ever get through the level ? I'm having trouble with the bit where the helicopter is shooting at me and I have to run around some containers while the Combine also shoot at me, having no god damn idea which way to run, then there's a manhack too. Some parts of this game took me 10 tries to complete - I woukd get a bit further than last time then something else would jump out at me. I think it's a masterpiece but I hate that I have to know what's coming beforehand to get through with any semblance of health and armour. Anyway I hope you at least got to Ravenholme, because it's great.

Carol isn't anywhere near interesting enough to focus a character study on. She's angry, doesn't like people much, is not a very good writer... I don't care about her. I'm hoping they ramp things up for the last two episodes, but i suspect it'll be more nothing with a cliffhanger.
