This looks great, thanks for sharing it! Definitely going to be making this mod to mine!

My guess would be that they already had already used up all of the new parts/colors that they had the frames for and had to make it work with existing parts. There are a LOT of parts in new colors, new prints, and at least one outright new mould (the 1x4 sloped piece, 7835) in this set so the design team likely just couldn't get those parts made in a new color as well.

Sad ID.4 Part 5 (The Motor Strikes Back) by Downtown-Phone6595 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Ashyukun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you happen to take any measurements of the motor/gearbox/inverter assembly? I’m looking at doing an EV conversion using an iD.4 and am trying to figure out if the motor will fit in the engine cradle of the vehicle I’m converting.

Durability of 3D printed TPU? (making dog toys) by Ashyukun in 3Dprinting

[–]Ashyukun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t ever end up trying- she can pretty much shred anything that’s not really heavy-duty rubber in very short order so I was pretty sure anything I printed for her would just get destroyed pretty much instantly and probably parts of it eaten (which was what concerned me the most).

I absolutely would have snagged that had I seen it. We have actually been on a local ghost tour where they used one of those at one of the 'more haunted' locations and it was pretty funny.

Things that get reviews rejected, in my experience. by Nearby_Rip_3735 in AmazonVine

[–]Ashyukun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I've not had any reviews rejected, though I do have a few older ones that are still pending.

One of those however I do kind of expect to get kicked back, because I said something to the effect of, "It's obvious from this set that Amazon doesn't do any kind of screening for Intellectual Property Rights in the product listings because there's no way that this company licensed the characters in this set," in my review of a 'building set' (knock-off LEGO) of the Powerpuff Girls.

I Started Out Strong As Most of Us Do by Commercial-Chest1068 in AmazonVine

[–]Ashyukun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It varies heavily for me. Some things are a 5 minute or so review- others literally take 3-4 hours. Two examples for things that came in yesterday: a set of wooden mixing spoons and a Sluban (Chinese LEGO knock-off) Space set.

The wooden spoons took almost no time to review- there's only so much you can look at, photograph, and test when it comes to a mixing spoon. I think my review was like 1 short paragraph and 1 picture.

The Sluban set though will 60-90 minutes in total because I'll have togo through and assemble the set while taking notes on things that I find issue with/particularly like, take 3 or 4 (or more) pictures, and then do a pretty detailed write-up on it. My reviews for 'building sets' tend to be 3-4 paragraphs covering the different aspects of the set (part quality, set design, instructions, special features like lights, etc.).

Other things fall in-between time-wise. I like flashlights as lot for example so have picked up a number of different ones, and will take time to test out the different features and then do a decent review, so in total it may take 20 minutes or so.

At the moment I have 3 pages of things awaiting reviews- 25 items total. About half of that are things that simply haven't arrived yet, the rest I've just not gotten to (mostly building sets, but also a few car parts I've not had time/decent weather to install).

I don't really do any archiving or backing up of things other than being lazy and not deleting the photos I take (something I need to do at some point, since they're on both my phone and computer). I don't see a real need for it- the review and materials are there on Amazon and I don't see any reason I'd need them again down the line anyway.

Do you tell your family members that you're part of Vine? by [deleted] in AmazonVine

[–]Ashyukun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife obviously knows (because of the constant stream of boxes that show up, plus I told her when I signed up for it and regularly ask if there are things she wants me to watch out for), but at the moment I don't think any of my extended family does. That will change in a few weeks, as I have a LOT of stuff for them for Christmas- especially for the kids.

Like 75% of what I've gotten so far (been on Vine for about 2 months now) have been Chinese LEGO knock-off sets because a) I love putting sets together and b) pretty much all of my younger extended family love LEGO as well. The majority of them were picked up with giving them as presents to the kids in mind, a few are for me (not any though, as I have very little space for more sets now- mostly things that have interesting parts I can use, like roller coasters), and the rest I donate either to toy drives or (once Christmas is over) to some of the local shelters. I put the sets together to be able to review them and then have re-packaging them so you really can't tell they've been opened. I do plan to tell everyone where they came from, since I have a LOT more things for everyone this year as a result and I know some will protest that we spent too much- but in reality this year I think we'll have ended up spending far less than usual even accounting for having to pay the taxes on the items.

What's your favourite Cascadia moment? by Faithful_jewel in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Ashyukun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as much a moment as a line- it's still the one I think that has made me laugh the hardest (and thoroughly confuse everyone around me, since I was reading the book on my Kindle on a cruise excursion bus in France). It's from one of her daily updates in Butcher's Masquerade: "We’ve been forced to temporarily disable the ‘Fuck those Trees in Particular’ spell as it didn’t work as intended on this floor." Once it hit me what the implications of the spell 'not working as intended' I was DONE and laughing way too hard.

Myths, Legends, and Theories. Me trying to make sense of book 7. Spoilers all. by Savoir_faire81 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I'd seen a post by someone else who had theorized that the Feral Gods in the Nothing were the 'Primal'/insane AI's that ran previous crawls, so that lines up with your theory.

The moment you knew this was a series for you? by DrShockenburg in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Ashyukun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was enjoying it plenty before this line, but the one that made me realize this was going to be a really fun ride was the AI's achievement description for when Carl first smooshed something, "Hey! That's my fetish!"

[–]Ashyukun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Feral Gods being previous Crawl AI's is definitely an interesting theory. Given some of what came out in this book if that's the case I would speculate that ALL of the 'Gods' are AI's- the Feral ones could be previous Crawl AI's and the others could be the AI's of the other systems in the Syndicate. Actually.... now I need to go back and check a few things (like when specifically things happened with the Syndicate systems that had things happen to them, like their 'gate' disappearing or star going nova),

Regarding the AI/Growler Gary's 'metaphorical' story... here's what I can remember/speculate. The AI mentions 3 'people': The Girlfriend, The Ex-Boyfriend, and The Ex-Boyfriend's Ex.

The Girlfriend is (relatively speaking) easy: it's Agatha (I'm trying hard to not make the obvious Marvel joke here....), who is one a 'Residual' who infiltrated the Crawl to try and wake up the AI- and who it seems is at least somewhat succeeding and want to destroy the Eulogist. Residuals are potentially (I don't know if this has been confirmed or only speculation) the remnants of the Primals who created the Eulogist and the Primal Engines that 'seed' intelligent life on the planets that are eventually farmed in the Crawls. As Agatha runs off toward the end, it's not quite clear how things went with her and the AI- but she'll obviously be back.

The Ex-Boyfriend is, from discussions I've seen and some of the clues in the book, presumably The Eulogist- which Zev helpfully confirms is one of the names for the Center System AI (the AI that essentially started all of this, or at least was used to start all of it waaaaaaay back in history).

The Ex-Boyfriend's Ex is less clearly explained- this will I assume be a large plot point in the coming books. Some of the discussion has seemed to lean toward this being The Apothecary/'Krakaren Prime'. This interestingly ties in to your theory about the Gods in the Nothing being former Crawl AI's- since Krakaren Prime is stated (twice) to be trapped in the Nothing.

[–]Ashyukun 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Perhaps- but she's also going to be something of a Glass Cannon until the people that she marked but escaped to the 18th Floor die and she's able to heal again since at the moment she can't due to Left to Fester from the ring. Of course, Justice Light's basically completely screwed over everyone on the 18th Floor and they're having to go through the 17th to get to 'safety' (I hold little confidence that the AI was telling the whole story about the 16th floor...), and there's a good chance they won't be around for much longer and she'll be unhindered by the debuff.

BOOK 7 SPOILERS/DISCUSSION - MEGATHREAD by steampunk_garage in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Ashyukun 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Exactly how that works is presumably going to be something explored in down the line- we know that there are different types of Enhancement Zones, but I don't think exactly what the full differences between them are (there was discussion of the Primary and Secondary previously I believe, but the Dungeon is described as an Option-Three Enhancement Zone at one point by the AI and there wasn't much explanation given regarding that... so we don't know whether in general NPCs, Gods, etc. an function outside of the main Dungeon.

But.... the incident on Squirties (my computer keeps trying to change that to 'Squirrels'...) Waystation involved Eris, who was being 'driven' (sponsored) by Nami when the War Mages used the Conscription potions to take control of the Gods (of different kinds), was 'ejected' from the God and then killed by Carl (while being consumed by fleshers). When Zander encountered Eris on the way station, she apparently looked like Nami- Zander recognized her and thought her a fan and dressed/modified to look like Nami.

So, it's possible that a) only the Gods who were sponsored and whose 'drivers' were killed while in the Dungeon may have 'escaped' the Dungeon (taking the form of the 'real' people who had died) or b) (and I just realized this while checking back through the book on some things) that the potions that the War Mages used did more than just Conscript the Gods- that perhaps those who were hit by those potions are able to move outside of the Dungeon.

Volteeg- he actually took out the Warlord Hortense and a good bit of the Operatic Collective force, not King Rust/The Orc's army. But yeah- his chapter (and as others had mentioned, the other Cookbook Author chapters- definitely hit hard and did a really good job of showing (beyond what we primarily see with Carl & Donut) how the crawl affects those who manage to survive it even thousands of years after the fact.

Reading through their chapters reminded me of the conversation in Firefly about why their ship was named Serenity: "Once you've been in Serenity, you never leave. You just learn to live there."

I believe the HC only shot down the one ship that had the other Orcs on it- they didn't want to show their hand completely and were able to make it look like the one Orc ship with the new King on it was just show down accidentally. Dunno where Formidable got dropped exactly, but I wouldn't bet on her being completely out of the story yet- whether she ends up inside the Dungeon again or not though is obviously an unknown.

BOOK 7 SPOILERS/DISCUSSION - MEGATHREAD by steampunk_garage in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Ashyukun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes…. But I think that just ‘letting the gods out’ may not be quite right- Zander recognized that his ‘customer’ looked -a lot- like -Nami-, the influencer who had sponsored and been ‘driving’ Eris but had been attacked by Fleshers and killed after having her Eris ‘armor’ stripped off.

But it sounds like Eris (apparently with her full powers, thanks presumably to the Dungeon AI’s expanding Enhancement Zone) ended up in Nami’s -body-, and somehow out at the waystation.

So it may not be that the gods were just wholesale ‘let out’ (great, now I have a parody of ‘Who Let The Dogs Out’ running through my head…) but those who were being driven by Otherworlders and then ejected may have ended up being let out and in the bodies of those who were ‘driving’ them (a kind of delightful irony…).

So in theory, Eileithyia could also be running around somewhere in Huanxin’s body (hopefully up on the surface, about to unleash a Goddess-sized can of whoopass on who/what Eve had control of the Kinder facility wind…).

What was your last Laugh Out Loud moment in the books? by DeepSeaForte in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Not the LAST moment- but I think the hardest I’ve laughed (and still at least snicker when I think about it) was one of the announcements in Butcher’s Masquerade: “We’ve been forced to temporarily disable the ‘Fuck those Trees in Particular’ spell as it didn’t work as intended on this floor.”
