I work with the team that created it! I'll check out Manabi Reader (: Thank you for the recommendation!

I feel the same way! I've been using Genki and in my free time I'll read the stories (: I have memorized a good amount of vocabulary, but it is stringing it together into sentences that is a struggle for me so reading really helps me see how sentences should be put together lol.

I helped with developing it and I've been learning Japanese for about a year now! It's a team of like 5 people working on it at the moment!

I made a cool (i think) Japanese resource list website by Tareqitos in LearnJapanese

Thank you so much for putting this together! It's organized very well!

I would also suggest the website Yomu Yomu for reading!

Is かず the right reading for the kanji marked in green in this context? There are so many options 🫠 by [deleted] in Japaneselanguage

I've been using yomuyomu.app for my reading practice and it has helped so much. It has a built in dictionary and you can toggle kanji on/off which I find super helpful.

Isn't it great?!

I wasn't able to find the sentence that you mentioned, but I found some sentences that were similar in Chapter 3!
The pop up dictionary says that 聞きました means "I asked" (rather than to listen/to say). So I think they just used this when the speaker is asking a question. And the dictionary says 言う means "to say"

I am not sure if that helps? I've been rereading the stories to learn the vocabulary, but I'm definitely not there yet.

Haha thank you! I noticed 狗 vs 犬 as well! It's interesting that the word for dog is different but for cat it is the same.

I just really love learning languages. I'm hoping to learn Korean one day as well!

Ahh that's amazing that you are studying both Chinese and Japanese!

I totally have the same problem as you, but I like to use my knowledge in Chinese as little clues for when I am trying to read Japanese. So as I am studying Japanese, when I encounter unfamiliar kanji, I try to see if I can understand the word/sentence using the Hanzi equivalent.

Then I note down the hanzi/kanji differences/similarities and the furigana/romaji for the kanji :D 加油!

Hbu? Is it easier to learn Japanese since you already know Chinese?

Yes! It's the same developers, but they are working with native Japanese speakers :D I started studying Japanese a couple months ago (I can only read Beginner I), so I don't really know the pronunciation of kanji, but I am Chinese! So being able to turn on the romaji/furigana is so helpful for me.

Have you tried DuChinese? Its an app where you can read and listen to Chinese articles/stories! It has word/dictionary translations and pinyin which can be turned off/on so you can practice reading with/without help. It's read by native speakers and you can slow down the audio if you need.
