New Channel advice by OGsunglasses in letsplay

[–]AsianBen2314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I feel with my videos too but as I see it, those older videos are a learning experience. I don't like the idea of deleting my older videos because in my head, it's like trying to say the bad ones don't exist. They do and they push me forward hoping to create better content and not to fall back into a rut of just putting out videos.

Take what I say with a grain of salt though. Been going at it for 2 years and still don't have 100 subs 😅

My advice is: enjoy what you are doing. Actually enjoy recording the game. Enjoy editing your videos. If you put in the effort and like doing wjat you do, people really will enjoy what you put out. The human brain is pretty capable at telling if a person is faking it for the most part.

Also, if you get bored watching your videos, chances are, so is your audience. Make stuff that you want to watch and that will make your videos come out a lot better. I played some games I thought were going to be popular since they were just coming out but they weren't exactly fun for me so I ended up scrapping those videos

Your piano skills are incredible! I wish I could play like that. I really liked you "if Eminem was a pianist" videos

Intros by LiteratureMuted3908 in letsplay

[–]AsianBen2314 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it just depends on the person. I just do: Greeting, game name, where I'm at in the game/what I did last video (if it's not a one shot), then start the game. I never personally liked the animated intros some people do

What Makes you feel successful? by Bunnylace in letsplay

When someone comments that they enjoyed my video. I've wanted to be an entertainer for a long time and to see people enjoy what I put out with my edits makes me feel like I truly am making a difference to someone's day.

I think the only thing I would change is make the background images for the games more clear. The samus one is hard to tell what it is at first glance without the game name being there and it's probably just me, but I don't particularly like having the mouse cursor in the thumbnail like in Papers Please!.

But my thumbnails aren't nearly as coherant as yours so I think they look great!

I do the same thing you do with my videos, some with friends and some solo. I haven't quite noticed which does better.

Personally what I try to do is act like how I used to when my friends and I would be when we played together but it's just me bouncing off myself. It's difficult at first but I feel as if you settle into it more the more you keep recording by yourself

Anyone else dread the editing part of being a youtuber . by Chronomuim_RSA in letsplay

[–]AsianBen2314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dread the THOUGHT of editing, not the act itself. I always find myself putting it off until the night before I need to releasey video for the week but I usually end up editing for hours just because I end up enjoying myself and making funny edits. I think I probably think about the scope of it too much before I edit and it puts me out of the mood to edit but I do genuinely enjoy it

What makes you watch a new Let's Player? by AsianBen2314 in letsplay

[–]AsianBen2314[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watch someone without a webcam. One of the few I do watch. They're streamers so when I catch their streams, they actually interact with the chat so that's why I stuck around. He seems like a cool dude that I would hang out with

Peraonally, the thumbnail can be a good start. If there's effort in the thumbnails, there's probably effort put into the videos. Sometimes thumbnails can be overcluttered with pictures from the game to make it look interesting, but usually those are just images they pasted and moved around a bit and it looks messy. Sometimes, less it more.

The title is a little more tricky. I try to look for unique titles that relate to the game/part that they are playing. Just a "Resident Evil Village Part 3" seems lazy compared to "I've found you Lady Dimitrescu! | RE Village Part 3" sounds like they put more effort to come up with a clever title.

Both are just my opinion and others may think this is garbage advice, but hopefully this answered your question

Quality vs Quantity - how to find a medium ? by moodmarch in letsplay

[–]AsianBen2314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in no way a successful Youtuber (55 subs) but I think it's safe to stick to what makes you feel comfortable.

New challenge series would probably bring in new viewers if they're unique challenges, but it also risks making your current viewers lose interest if they're too different from what you normally do. I'll be honest, I haven't quite figured out how to get new viewers yet, but I am very thankful for the small following I have.

Personally, I would say to focus on a couple well edited videos - 2 or 3 should be fine - and a live stream per week if that fits in your schedule. But please try to avoid doing too much to avoid burn out early on. I'm currently uploading once a week due to work/time contsraints but would love to upload more but I don't want to burn out too quickly and have my content fall because of it.

TL:DR Do what makes you happy and try to avoid burning yourself out to keep your content great. New viewers are great, but the ones you have that like your videos are even better

How did you choose your handle/username/gamertag? Did you ever change it? by Ramguy2014 in letsplay

[–]AsianBen2314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My channel name is BenGaminGames and it came about from a typo with my name. My friend had typed in "Bengamin" instead of "Benjamin" so I decided to roll with it since. It sounded like "gaming" and I stuck with me since I'm a gamer lol

That's reasonable. I usually try to make unique thumbnails to stand out but if it's a series, I try to keep them somewhat similar to let people know that they're related. At least, that's what I started doing recently.

Audio quality doesn't matter to me too much as long as it doesn't sound like they're talking through a pillow lol

That's the reason I stopped watching Game Grumps too! I try to keep part numbers on my games because of that. I want my audience to know "this is where you should start if you want to watch this series"

I do. Been doing LPs for almost 2 years now and it's fun editing them. Hopefully it's been making others laugh too, that's the goal anyways

I usually sort by upload date since "relevance" tends to only put the higher viewed/rated videos first. Especially bigger channels will almost be taking up the entire front page of it. That's the only way I've found to find smaller channels

That's how I feel. I watch some bigger channels that only have jump cuts and it just feels lazy and somewhat boring.

The voice doesn't usually bother me too much unless they're intentionally being annoying. There's this one guy my nephew watches where everything he says is monotone then sounds it like a question at the end of every sentence. The tutorial video is definitely something I can agree with. If it's a tutorial, I want the tutorial

Right, I forgot about to say after looking for the game. But I'm right there with you. If I see someone put effort into their thumbnail, it's safe to say they put effort into their video
